Max Bromson makes history as film of his death shown on Australian TV

A long time member of Exit International and a close friend of , when Max Bromson died on 28 July 2014, the response of the authorities was to have 17+ Police raid Philip's Adelaide home and office.

With the police investigation now closed and with the property of Max's family now returned to them, 7.30 Report's Alex Mann has produced a memorable piece of TV 7 a fitting tribute to Max.

Predictably the ABC are now copping criticism from all around, especially Government Ministers who have accused the ABC of being 'taken over by political activists' (Peter Dutton ) & engaging in 'death voyeurism' (Tony Abbott).

You can watch the 7.30 Report Episode here & decide for yourself.

RIP Max Bromson

NZ Police Mount Sting Operation to Infiltrate Exit New Zealand

The NZ Police have certainly been busy of late, commencing with the infiltratration of Exit's Wellington Chapter. The story starts after one of Suzy Austen's legendary 'pot luck' Sunday lunches for Exit local Exit members.

After this meeting, however, the Police set up a booze bus. Under the guise of testing for alcohol, the NZ Police were in fact gather 'intelligence' on the 'pot luck' lunch meeting.

While they didn't get any of the elderly members for Drink Driving they did compile a list of names that allowed them to make follow-up 'welfare check' visits on those who attended.

They sought to seize the Nembutal of any who admitted to having it. Patsy McGrath in Nelson on NZ's South Island was not even at the meeting yet had her Balloon Time Helium cylinder seized 'for her own protection'.

While questions are now being asked about the timeliness and the legality of the 'Sting' (given some of the Exit members visited by police will be appearing before a Parliamentary committee about the need to introduce a voluntary euthanasia law in that country), those visited are standing up for themselves and demanding answers.

The sting has been named 'Operation Painter' and is ongoing. The depths to which the NZ Police are stooping is a pertinent reminder to everyone to a) stay on the right side of the law by not assisting others in any way and b) take prudent measures for your own legal safety.

Exit is currently organising expert legal advice for NZ Exit Members.

How/ why the ABC & SMH Got it 'Oh So Wrong'! Recent events have shown a dearth of intellectual comment & understanding from journalism in Australia on Exit International & end of life rights more particularly ... This week's spray by the ABC & Sydney Morning Herald show the ladies (Ava Benny- Morrison, Alison Carabine, Latika Bourke) baying for Philip's blood in predatory interviewing & not a lot of remorse when he was proven (as if needed) to have acted honestly & in good faith.

The story came about after a murder /suicide of a family of four in Sydney. Caught on the hop, Philip confirmed, when asked by the 'media', that 'someone in Sydney by the name of Manrique' had bought the Peaceful Pill Handbook & 'no he could not confirm for sure it was one & the same person'.

He was telling the truth.

When further details of the family's tragedy came to light via the media, it became clear the person was not the one in question. Philip was quick to correct, when asked, that the murder/ suicide had nothing to do with Exit or the Handbook.

There was no 'bizarre backflip' (the word 'bizarre' being one of Latika's favourite attention-grabbing headline words to use) as these lovely ladies allege.

The probable murderer, Fernando Manrique, had not purchased the Handbook. (Everyone purchaser has their ID checked so is this surprising?)

Rather, 'life-loving', 'mid-life' Prudence Manrique of the upmarket inner Sydney suburb of Paddington, had bought the PPH. She says she has no association with the family of the same name, 20km to the north who died.

Did these three correct the public record (and there own crappy reporting)?

Hell no! Just gloating silence, for the public record.

Never one to let truth (and integrity) stand in the way of a good story, young Ava (she's the blond), even castigated Philip on Twitter after she was proven wrong.

Not a good look for journalism. And not a good look for Australia who tries desperately to be taken seriously by the rest of the world on this issue.

These sad attempts at character assassination make Alex Mann's earnest 7.30 Report reporting even more commendable.

What was it that Michael Leunig once said of Australian journalists?

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride ...

Congratulations Caroline Overington at The Australian for your straight reporting

It's not everyday that Exit congratulates The Australian but in light of this week's abysmal reporting by the ABC's Alison Carabine & the Sydney Morning Herald's Ava Benny Morrison it is well deserved.

If it weren't for the Oz's Caroline Overington 'doing the right thing' and clarifying the facts of a story, by establishing that Prue Manrique had indeed purchased the Peaceful Pill Handbook and 'no' she was not related to Mr Manrique who killed his two autistic children and his wife before killing himself with CO, the truth may never have been outed.

This is because it is not for Exit to disclose the identity, and thereby breach the privacy of a member of Exit, or a purchaser of the Peaceful Pill Handbook.

Exit takes member privacy extremely seriously and would never hand out personal details to the media without the person's active consent.

Finally, a big thank you to Prue for standing up for the truth.
