TITLE: A BILL PROPOSING TO AMEND NYE COUNTY CODE TITLE 9, PUBLIC PEACE, MORALS AND WELFARE, RELATING TO CHAPTER 9.20, PROSTITUTION; PROVIDING FOR THE SEVERABILITY, CONSTITUTIONALITY AND EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF, AND OTHER MATTERS PROPERLY RELATING THERETO WHEREAS, pursuant to NRS 244.119, the Nye County Board of County Commissioners (“Board”) is authorized to amend the Nye County Code; and WHEREAS, NRS 201.354 states that it is unlawful for any person to engage in prostitution or solicitation except in a licensed house of prostitution; and WHEREAS, any license issued and received is a revocable privilege personal to the holder thereof; and WHEREAS, the Board finds that in the interests of the public health, safety, and general welfare of the people of Nye County and to promote the orderly conduct of the operation, it is necessary to impose regulations and restrictions on houses of prostitution; NOW THEREFORE, pursuant to NRS 244.110, the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Nye, State of Nevada, does ordain: 9.20 PROSTITUTION 9.20.010: ADOPTION: The adoption of this chapter provides for the licensing and regulation of prostitution; for revenue and regulation; prohibits any prostitution in Nye County, except as conducted in accordance with the provisions of this chapter; declares that prostitution conducted in accordance with the provisions of this chapter does not constitute a public offense;, or nuisance and is designed to promote public trust through strict regulation which will protect the public health, safety, morals and welfare of the residents of the County. -

In The Eye Of The Selector: Ancient-Style Prose Anthologies In Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) China Abstract The rapid growth of woodblock printing in sixteenth-century China not only transformed wenzhang (“literature”) as a category of knowledge, it also transformed the communities in which knowledge of wenzhang circulated. Twentieth-century scholarship described this event as an expansion of the non-elite reading public coinciding with the ascent of vernacular fiction and performance literature over stagnant classical forms. Because this narrative was designed to serve as a native genealogy for the New Literature Movement, it overlooked the crucial role of guwen (“ancient-style prose,” a term which denoted the everyday style of classical prose used in both preparing for the civil service examinations as well as the social exchange of letters, gravestone inscriptions, and other occasional prose forms among the literati) in early modern literary culture. This dissertation revises that narrative by showing how a diverse range of social actors used anthologies of ancient-style prose to build new forms of literary knowledge and shape new literary publics. -

Hargrove 3 Introduction Feng Menglong’s (15741645) collection of stories constitute some of the most important works in Chinese fiction. The Ming Dynasty author and lateblooming scholar recorded a total of 120 stories, forty in each of three volumes, referred to as the Sanyan (literally “three words”). The three works’ individual titles are Stories Old and New, Stories to Caution the World, and Stories to Awaken the World. -

Generously lent to The Frick Collection by the Museo di Capodimonte in Naples, this painting is one of the most important portraits of the Italian Renaissance. Like Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Parmigianino’s Antea is a consummate example of a portrait with compelling psychological presence. The sitter’s penetrating gaze and naturalistic presentation suggest that we may be encountering a real person, yet the identity of this young woman is unknown. Many questions about the painting remain unanswered. Of these, the most persistent concerns the sitter’s identity. One of the earliest mentions of the painting, dating from the late seventeenth century, claims she is Antea, a famous Roman courtesan, and Parmigianino’s mistress; other theories suggest she is the daughter or servant Parmigianino (1503–1540), Antea, c.1531–34, oil on canvas, of the artist, a noble bride, or a member of an aristocratic family. Still others 136 x 86 cm, Museo di Capodimonte, Naples have suggested that the painting is an example of an “ideal beauty,” a popular genre of Renaissance female portraiture in which the beauty and virtue of the sitter were of paramount importance, rather than her identity.
