FebruaryJanuary 2nd 26, 2020th, 2020 — Feast — Third of theSunday Presentation in Ordinary of theTime Lord

FROM THE PASTOR… Dear Parishioners, At this Sunday’s 11 am Mass, we celebrate the Enrollment Ceremony for our Confirmation candidates. This marks the beginning of their final stage of preparation for the sacrament, which they will receive from Bishop Witold Mroziewski on Thursday, May 14th at 5:00 pm. This final stage of preparation is marked by community service projects, some special seminars, a retreat day, and, of course, continuing catechesis in our parish Faith Formation program.

We will be having a similar rite for our First Communion candidates on February 23rd as they likewise round the final lap before First Eucharist on the Sunday after Mother’s Day.

Also this weekend, we send five members of our Spanish community to Douglaston for a fol- low-up session to the recent Fifth Encuentro, conducted by and for Latino Catholics throughout the country. This national conversation seeks to guide the mission and ministries of Spanish-speaking

Catholics for the coming years.

On a sad note: this weekend we bid farewell to Sister Beda, a Perpetual Help Sister who has worked with the Korean Martyrs Apostolate at St. Raphael’s for the past two years. Her term here has ended. As she returns to , we thank her for her service here and wish her well in her future ministry in her homeland. (With no replacement Sister foreseen for the near future, Sister Mary Ruth will continue to work with the Korean Apostolate here, but will live in religious community in New Jer- sey and commute.)

Speaking of the Korean Martyrs Apostolate, we thank them for the recent donation ($800) that they made towards the cost of our Christmas plants and

flowers. Much appreciated!

Again, I remind you of Bishop DiMarzio’s pas- toral visit with us next Sunday, February 9th. He will celebrate and preach at the 11 am English Mass (with Next Sunday: some Spanish and Korean readings and music) and Bishop DiMarzio afterwards will meet with parish leadership. Please join Sun., Feb. 9th, 11:00 am us for the Mass. -Father Jerry Jecewiz
