Moe remembers that assistant coaches Dave Metzbower and Brian Voelker left a team breakfast on the morning of the semifnal against UNC to scout the Johns Hopkins- Syracuse game. “It made an impression on me,” Moe wrote in February. “Tierney wasn’t coming to his frst Final Four just to put in a good efort. He was coming to win the whole thing.” His team responded with a 16–14 win that earned the Tigers a spot in the title game against Syracuse. Princeton led most of the way before the Orangemen tied the game with 38 seconds left, but after a scoreless frst overtime, Moe picked up a loose ball of of the face-of to start the second extra period, raced down the feld untouched and scored the winner.
