We have always had a reputation for our choirs, but at the moment we are in halcyon days as the choirs are on tremendous form. They wowed the audience with their virtuosity and versatility. All bodes well for the forthcoming Cornwall Music Festival when they will be representing the school. RICHARD LANDER SCHOOL WEEKLY BULLETIN : 17th2nd FebruaryMay 2013 2015 5 5 5 SPORTS REPORT Year 8 County Hockey Tournament W ell done the Year 8 Hockey team who took part in the County Hockey Tournament last Tuesday and, despite many of the girls feeling under the weather, made it through to the semi finals. The team qualified in the Pool Section with a 1—0 win over Penrice, a 5—0 win over Newquay Treviglas, a 7-0 win over Redruth and a 1-0 loss to Bude. The quarter final saw Lander play Mounts Bay, and with the score still at -2 2 after extra time, the match went to very nerve wracking sudden death penalties, which Lander won. In the semi-final, Lander once again met Bude, and eventually lost the match 2—0 but played really well and created several opportunities to score. U16 Girls Football County Cup Final 2015 D espite stinging hail, the U15 Girls Football team put in a valiant performance during the County Thursday 30th January Cup final, at Cornwall College, on U16 Girls Football County Thursday. On the day, opposition Cup Final 2015 Brannel School were stronger and Richard Lander School the final result reflected this, but - v- Brannel School the girls put up a good fight until the last whistle and were still smiling as they collected their runners up medals. Well done to all who took part, 2nd best in Spring Term Sports Fixtures are now on the Cornwall is a fantastic achievement school website www.richardlander.co.uk and Brannel certainly didn’t have it all their own way..     Richard Lander School Admissions Policy Richard Lander School follows the Local Authority Admissions Policy and, along with all other LA schools in Cornwall, places on transfer from primary school are allocated by the County team who follow the agreed Common Admissions Policy. QR to view on the web BE YOUR BEST Principal’s Report I am delighted to let parents know that the Academy continues to go from strength to strength with excellent student numbers for the new Year 7 in September. As all schools are funded on pupil numbers, it is vital to ensure that we continue to be one of the most popular choice schools in Cornwall and 2016 is no exception. It allows us to continue offering a truly outstanding curriculum provision and extra-curricular programme with excellence in all areas including the arts and sport. This week we have been visited by some experienced executive headteachers from across the country and they were really impressed with the calm, orderly, rigorous and very happy learning environment. A particular area that impressed our guests was the personalised range of support offered by our Student Services team, including Compass Careers and Lifeskills sessions, counselling and study support. This confirms that Mounts Bay Academy continues to be an outstanding school not just in terms of exam results but learning culture and relationships as well. Finally, Penzance will be hosting this year’s Cornwall School Games. Mounts Bay Academy, Humphry Davy School, Penzance Tennis Club, Penzance Leisure Centre, Carn Brea Athletics Club and the Mennaye will be welcoming schools from all over Cornwall competing in a variety of sports from golf to netball, table tennis to dance. It will be an honour to allow the youth from across Cornwall to see how beautiful west Cornwall is and how many wonderful sporting venues Penzance has for a relatively small town.

The children have had a busy week finishing off assessments and then making Easter goodies! We would like to send a huge THANK YOU to Reverend Liz and congregation of the Frogpool Methodist Church for gifting each child a lovely Easter Egg to enjoy. Reverend Liz also put together a short Easter assembly for us to share with the children. When we return from the Easter break, Plymouth Argyle will be coming into school to lead some PE sessions for the classes. Children in KS1 will need their PE kits in school on Monday afternoons. For KS2 children, please bring your PE kits in on a Wednesday afternoon but they can stay in school for a PE session on Friday afternoon when Mr Parker from Richard Lander School will be taking cricket lessons with Kingfisher class and the Starlings will do an active mile. Their PE kits can then go home on Friday. We are delighted that we can start some after school clubs in the Summer Term. Starting from Monday 26 April, there will be a Sports Club for years 1 and 2 from 2.45pm to 3.30pm. A KS2 Sports Club will start on Wednesday 28 April from 2.45pm to 3.45pm. We will be sending out a short form via Arbor when we return to school so you can request a place for your child.
