INDEX to Local History Records Volumes 46 to 99 February 2006 – Autumn 2019 compiled by Raymond Howgego INTRODUCTORY NOTES This index continues to the latest issue of Local History Records the index compiled by T. D. K. Pearce and published by the Bourne Society in 2006. Items in bold type signify that an entire article has been devoted to the listed subject, or that the subject occupies the bulk of the article. References in italics point to images and photographs of particular significance. Presentation and annotation is similar to that employed by Pearce but does not make use of indented sub-entries. Items beginning ‘The’ retain the definite article but are indexed alphabetically according to the following word; e.g. ‘The Fox’ will be found under the letter F, not T. Items beginning ‘St’ (Saint) are indexed under Sa, not St. A regularly updated digital version of this Index is available for free download from the Bourne Society website, bournesoc.org.uk. A major advantage of the digital version is that the entire document can be word searched, including the annotations. This will be found especially useful when searching, for example, for residents in a named road, people of similar occupations, events taking place in a particular year, etc. Birth and death dates are those given in, or inferred from, the articles in which they appear. No attempt has been made to verify their accuracy, or to include dates researched from other sources. In situations where only the death date and age at death are recorded, birth dates have been estimated and might be in error by a year. The abbreviation fl. (floruit, flourished) denotes a person’s period of activity as inferred from the supporting text. The present index will not always include the name of every member of a large family, particularly when that member is regarded as historically insignificant or has no obvious additional connection to the Bourne Society area. Index entries of the form ‘Smith family’ suggest the existence of a large family, some of the members of which might not be separately listed. Reports of outdoor forum meetings, coach tours, pub and landscape history group meetings, have not been indexed unless they include significant and relevant local history content. The titles of indoor forum meetings are, however, included in this index. 2 A AA Handbook, 1928 edition, extracts, Caterham & Caterham Valley 96.51-52 Ablewhite family (c.1937-9), of Wapses Lodge, Caterham 96.9 Ablewhite, Donald Leslie (d.1943 in WWII), of Wapses Lodge, Caterham 96.9 Abraham, Giles (d.1589; labourer), of Caterham, hanged for theft 57.13 Acme Photo Works.
