Through PicsArt’s editing tools the photographers used their creativity to outline AGBU's contribution to education, culture, community development, protection of national identity and heritage and other sectors. The 20 best photos, selected by a jury of art experts and select members of AGBU and PicsArt, were exhibited at the AGBU Armenia Headquarters. To face this global challenge, it is imperative for us as a nation, state, diaspora and the church, to join forces and think and act globally. We should therefore adopt new protocols and initiatives that can, through their focus and caliber, inspire and involve all segments of the diaspora, especially the young generation, providing them with a source of pride. GRANT CONTRACT SIGNING CEREMONY BETWEEN AGBU ARMENIA AND THE EUROPEAN UNION DELEGATION TO ARMENIA

The European Union Delegation to Armenia and AGBU have signed a contract for a EUR 2 million grant that marks the beginning of a three-year project aimed at facilitating development of the civil society sector in Armenia. AGBU Armenia is actively undertaking a new strategic direction to engage more closely with civil society in the country and through this grant will take its first steps forward. The Civil Society Facilitation Project will be implemented by AGBU Armenia together with the Eurasia Partnership Foundation (EPF). The project will build the capacity of local civil society organizations CSOs and harness their networks. A special focus will be put on establishing direct ties between experts from the diaspora and local CSOs and facilitating skills and knowledge exchange as well as more active involvement of the Diaspora in the day-to-day life of Armenian civil society. The project will complement the currently EU-funded capacity building project which focuses on internal and external capacity building of around 100 CSOs in Armenia (STRONG Civil Society Organisations for Stronger Armenia) and other ongoing activities supported by the European Union [e.g. Community Development through Social Entrepreneurship - CODE-SE project- Social Response to Labour Migration in Armenia (Together4Armenia.am)]. The activity is completely in line with the priorities identified in the EU Country Roadmap for Engagement with Civil Society (2014-2017) and Annual Action Programme 2015 in favor of the Republic of Armenia.

On November 30, AGBU Yerevan invited its fellow colleagues, partners, and friends to join them in celebrating Partners’ Appreciation Day as part of the AGBU 110th event week honoring the AGBU 110th year anniversary. As the largest Armenian non- profit with a global presence in over 30 countries and 70 cities, AGBU’s mission was founded on partnerships, collaboration, and a sense of togetherness that continues to permeate all aspects of the AGBU community. Whether partnering with major organizations to undertake national-scale projects, or providing services to individuals, AGBU is a connector. Partners’ Appreciation Day honored this century-long value by inviting our collaborators in Armenia (new and old) to come together for an evening of musical entertainment by Armenian jazz icon Vahagn Karapetyan. Partners spanning the fields of education, culture, civic society development, humanitarian aid, media and more came for the evening. Pioneers like the Luys Foundation, TUMO Centre for Creative Technologies, UFAR, Deem Communication, Ministry of Diaspora, Fruitful Armenia, Holy See Etchimiadzin-AGBU Children’s Centers and others were among the guests. Others working in start-up incubation and development like members of the Impact Hub and IdeA Foundation were also present. A casual and high-energy event, happy faces were seen lounging on the poofs, chatting, and listening to music within the cozy setting of the AGBU amphitheater-transformed-jazz lounge for the night. More playful and even masked faces could be seen posing in the limelight for the AGBU 110 Partners’ Appreciation Day Photo Booth, where participants explored their wilder side with props and costumes bringing out the enthusiasm and fun of partnerships that are more than just colleagues, but also friends.

AGBU ACQUIRES TWO 110-YEAR-OLD DOCUMENTS ATTESTING TO THE MISSION OF THE ORGANIZATION

On December 21, AGBU Armenia acquired two 110-year-old established AGBU. I realized that this was one of the early circular letters that have historical value not only for the history of AGBU, but also for preserving the legacy and memory of the Armenian people in general. I am very glad that those two rare documents are now in a safe place,” said Demoyan The first document—dated May 22, 1906—is a handwritten letter written less than two months after the founding of the organization, which encourages Armenians across the world to establish AGBU chapters in their countries. The second undated document announces the activities and objectives of the newly

AGBU 110th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS IN DIASPORA

AGBU Aleppo members, friends, and the Armenians of Aleppo at large gathered at the AGBU Kevork Nazarian hall on December 17 for the Eternal Blessings event. The celebration honoured AGBU’s 110th anniversary as well as the 85th anniversary of the Armenian Youth Association (AYA). The festive occasion was brought together by different AGBU groups, district committee members, and AYA youth. The celebration included an unforgettable theater performance directed by renowned Aleppo-Armenian director and playwright, Manvel Keshishian. The cultural program continued with a moving concert by the 20-member chamber orchestra of violinists led by Sarkis Iskenian. Next, the Atamian theater troupe presented the history of AGBU’s founding assembly, its efforts in finding and helping orphans, and its educational mission through short sketches by actors Smpad Yeretsian, Nerses Daghlian, Houry Basmajian and Armen Stambulian. The evening also featured glimpses into AGBU’s past choral, dance, and poetry performances. Closing remarks were made by Nerses Nersoyan, Chairman of the AGBU District Committee of Syria and Archbishop Shahan Sarkisian, Primate of the Syrian-Armenian Diocese. Congratulatory messages were presented by AGBU President, Berge Setrakian, and AGBU Armenia President and AGBU Central Board member, Vasken Yacoubian.

The ceremony was attended by Berge Setrakian, AGBU President; Samvel Mkrtchyan, Armenia's Ambassador to Lebanon; Bishop Shahe Panosian, Primate of the Lebanese Diocese; Artur Nazarian, Lebanon’s Energy and Water Resources Minister; as well as other ministers, parliament members, representatives of Lebanese political parties, charitable, cultural, sports and youth organizations. A film on AGBU-AYA's establishment and activities was screened at the event, featuring the history of both organizations, from their inception up to now, through sport, culture, youth, scout achievements and festivals. Viken Tchertchian, the AYA Central Board Chairman, presented the congratulatory message of the organization. In his closing remarks, Tchertchian expressed his appreciation and gratitude to AGBU leadership – AGBU President Berge Setrakian and members of the AGBU Central Board – as well as the Chairman of AGBU Lebanon District Committee Gerard Tufenkjian and other Committee members, the different units and members of AGBU-AYA.
