JUDGES Larry Denny, Lebanon, MO Dennis Thompson, Boone, IA OPEN POULTRY, WATERFOWL & PIGEON RULES & REGULATIONS The Nebraska State Fair General Livestock Information, Rules and Regulations and Health Requirements apply to this division as well as those specific rules listed below. Please refer to all rules. By submitting entry to the Nebraska State Fair, you agree and will abide by these Rules. Please note: All exhibitors are asked to check in with show superintendent for rules on barn duty during open poultry show. Each exhibitor is expected to help keep the poultry area clean and litter free. Exhibitors, or their agents, will not be permitted to converse with judge during competition or while awards are being made, or their entire entry will be disqualified. All show boxes/carriers must be removed from exhibition area after cooping in. No boxes or carriers shall be stored under coops or elsewhere in the Poultry area of the Sheep barn. The exhibition is held under the rules of the American Poultry Association and the American Bantam Association and will be judged according to their standards. * The basis for judging will be as follows: A. Old Male (over one year old) B. Old Female (over one year old) C. Young Male (under one year old) D. Young Female (under one year old) Substitutions will be allowed in the same Division, Breed and Class. No other substitutions will be allowed. All classes will be scored through 5th place for the benefit of breeders and the general public. No birds shall be handled except by the Superintendent, Superintendent’s assistants, judges, owners or owner’s representatives approved by the Superintendent. The utmost care will be used in handling all birds, but the management will not be responsible for loss through fire, theft, accident or any other medium. Handling and selling birds will not be tolerated without the knowledge of the Show Superintendent. THIS RULE WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED. DISQUALIFICATION: The right is reserved to disqualify all unworthy specimens. Each specimen must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor and shown in its natural condition. Birds showing symptoms of disease, when received or during the Fair, will immediately be returned to the owner and the entry fee forfeited. All out of state poultry exhibited needs to be accompanied by a CVI (Certificate of Veterinary Inspection) and be from U.S. Pullorum-Typhoid clean or equivalent flocks, or have a negative pullorum-typhoid test within ninety (90) days of the fair. See General Livestock Health Requirements for details. Failure to recognize any or all rules will exclude exhibitor from competition at the Nebraska State Fair. 2 of 13 ENTRY FEE $2.00 per bird (All entries must be made online) ENTRY DEADLINE THE DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IS AUGUST 10, 2019 AT 8:00 P.M. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE MADE ONLINE AT: statefair.org LATE ENTRIES CAN BE MADE AT DOUBLE THE ENTRY FEE UNTIL AUGUST 15, 2019 AT MIDNIGHT. NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER AUGUST 15, 2019. ENTRY INFORMATION Poultry and Waterfowl entries are open to Nebraska and out-of-state exhibitors who meet all requirements set forth in this book. Please read the following directions carefully before submitting your entry form. Exhibitor information is requested in the upper left-hand corner of the entry form. Please include phone numbers. Please be sure to check box on entry form if “Junior Entry” (Junior Exhibitor = those 18 years of age and under). When completing an online Junior Show Exhibitor entry, please enter Division 7000, Class 100. Individual bird entries must be made using Division 7001-7016 and related classes. Rules are the same for the Junior Show as the Open Show; however, the Junior exhibitor entries will be judged separately from Open Class entries. On the entry form mark an X in the box indicating either a Poultry/Waterfowl or Pigeon entry. Note the divisions, classes, and categories for all Poultry and Waterfowl as listed in the following pages of the entry book. Exhibit information requires a division number, a class number, and a category letter. Under Breed and/or Variety," describe your entry by specific breed and/or variety. Use one line per entry. List bird leg-band numbers in the appropriate column under the category headings Old Male, Old Female, Young Male, or Young Female. In order to include all fowl terminology on one form, we have changed the age/sex distinctions to the above-mentioned generic terms. AMERICAN POULTRY ASSOCIATION – The A.P.A. invites you to become a member. Annual dues are $20.00 for one (1) year, $50.00 for three (3) years, $40.00 for one year outside the U.S. and Canada. Junior dues (for those 18 & under) are $15 per year or $40.00 for three years. Endowment Trust Life Membership is $260. All Annual and Endowment Members receive our yearbook and are eligible to earn points toward a Master Exhibitor Award. Every member is eligible for the awards at this show. [email protected] The AMERICAN BANTAM ASSOCIATION will offer Personalized Certificates to Champion and Reserve Champion Bantam; $1 Bantam Buck for Champion and Reserve for all seven bantam divisions, providing there are a minimum of 25 birds competing; plus a free listing in the upcoming ABA Yearbook in the section Who’s Who in Bantams, $1 Bantam Buck for Champion and Reserve in all other classes of 100 or more, plus a listing in the upcoming yearbook in the section Who’s Who in Bantams. All wins in classes of 100 or more will be denoted with a star * and be retained in the ABA records to accumulate towards the Master Exhibitor, Master Breed and Lifetime Achievement Awards. Only ABA members are eligible to compete for the above awards. Dues are $20.00/year; $50.00/three years. New members receive a copy of the quarterly and the latest available copy of the Annual American Bantam Association Year Book which lists many advertisers and includes a complete breed and variety index. Winners of ABA awards are listed in the year book under Who’s Who in Bantams. Starred wins are earned in classes of 100 or more in the following: Champion and Reserve Champions in the seven bantam divisions, Best and Reserve of Breed and Variety, Best Display when 7 or more bantam displays are shown, Best and Reserve Display when 10 or more bantam displays are shown, Best and Reserve Trio when 30 or more trios are shown by 4 or more exhibitors. HERDSMANSHIP 1ST Place - $50; 2nd Place- $30; 3rd Place - $20 The Nebraska State Fair Board will offer awards for the top three (3) exhibitors in the Open Class Poultry, Waterfowl and Pigeon Show demonstrating clean, neat, attractive animals; proper storage of feed and tack; clean alleyways; and proper animal waste disposal. Creativity of display will also be considered. See 2019 Nebraska State Fair Herdsmanship Rules for complete details. 3 of 13 EXHIBITS Exhibitors must purchase an exhibitor gate ticket prior to entering the fairgrounds. Exhibitors are responsible for feeding and watering their own exhibit (feed is provided). Exhibitors are recommended to have all birds banded prior to arrival at Nebraska State Fair. Coop assignments will be made by the Superintendent prior to August 22. Exhibitors will not be allowed to remove any part of their exhibit or equipment before 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 25. No early releases without prior written permission of the Superintendent.
