The living conditions in these settlements are in most cases under the minimal ones. A large portion of these settlements do not even have the bare infra- structure, the surrounding roads, sewerage and drinking water. Instead of constructed residential buildings, these families live in improvised accommodation. Is this life or is it just an imitation of it? The project called “Social Inclusion and Housing Improvement in the Roma Settlements in AP Vojvodina in Republic of Serbia” was initiated in July 2001. Since then, it has yielded results that bring the hope that one of the biggest problems of the Roma, this are the virtually unbearable living conditions, are about to cease. The result of a long-lasting experience Robert Bu, the coordinator of the project says that the Roma Resource Center at the Ecume- nical Humanitarian Organization has a long-lasting experience in working with the vulnerable groups and the Roma national settlement. For many years, we were the unique typical organiza- tion that provided single material help for the Roma. Ву writing it we vvanted to highlight the impact the Jewry from Novi Sad made while shap- ing the city’s urban and cultural соге. The buildings, streets, monu- ments and sights, hovvever, are just as important as the people who built them and who kept the Jevvish Community together. Over the centuries, Novi Sad along with its Jews had more troublesome than peaceful times, but just like their city, the Jews survived and managed to prosper. TONS, the City’s Tourist Information Centre has supported us in representing the Jevvish Community as a дгоир of individuals made of flesh and blood who, in spite of саггуing the heavy burden of the Holocaust, still have a clear vision while living in harmony with all the other ethnic and cultural groups in Novi Sad. Dunavska street is one of the oldest and most beautiful streets in Novi Sad. The Novosadska Synagogue with Jewish school and Jewish community represents a cultural and historic complex of great importance. It is constructed by a famous Budapest architect Lipot Baumhorn. Its construction began in 1905 and was completed in 1909. In 1991 Synagogue was added to Spatial Cultural-Historical Units of Great Importance list, and it is protected by the Republic of Serbia. The Name of Mary Church is the largest church in Novi Sad and is located in the city centre on the Trg Slobode (Liberty Square).
