Parks 2020 Vision CIP Progress Report Service Zone 5 2020 designation: North and Northeast Subareas Acquire Land and Develop Parks • Acres Acquired: 28.79 Acres of Neighborhood/Community, and 8.81 acres of regional park property Thomas Cully Property 24.96 acres Chimney Park 0.01 acres McCoy Park 3.82 acres Kelley Point Park 8.81 acres (Regional Park) • Patton Square master plan complete; renovations scheduled for 2006 • Kelley Point Park canoe launch and trail is in design phase • McCormick Baxter site under partnership discussion • McCoy Park acquired and developed (3.82 acres) Protect and Improve Natural Resources • Acquired 1.43 acres of additional natural area property including Rocky Butte Natural Area, 0.2 acres and Whitaker Ponds Natural Area, 1.23 acres • Whitaker Ponds: Lewis & Clark garden designed and installed • Kelley Point Park: 1. Planted .10 acre of Lewis & Clark interpretive plantings. 2. Planted a 25 acre black cottonwood understory shrub reveg project with assistance from BES Watershed Revegetation. 3. Scheduled regular stewardship activities on site with PPS high school and middle school students. • Mock’s Crest & Waud’s Bluff: Obtained FEMA grant funding for implementation of on the ground wildfire hazard reduction projects on 150 acres of oak-madrone habitat. • Peninsula Crossing Trail – removed invasives and planted natives with local schools and neighborhood groups. • Coordinated Volunteer Efforts: (2003-2005) Whitaker Ponds 5000 volunteers 0,000 hours January 2006 – Portland Parks & Recreation 1 2020 Progress Report – Zone 5 Protect and Improve Urban Forest • Master plan for Whitaker Ponds completed, includes environmental ed center • Inventoried street trees in neighborhoods Arbor Lodge Beaumont Wilshire Concordia Irvington Kenton Piedmont Portsmouth Rose city Park Sabin Vernon • Maintained tree liaisons for community education in neighborhoods: Arbor Lodge Beaumont-Wilshire Boise concordia Cully East Columbia Eliot Grant Park Hollywood Humboldt Irvington Kenton Madison South Overlook Portland Heights Portsmouth Rose City Park Roseway Sabin Sullivans Gulch Vernon Woodlawn January 2006 – Portland Parks & Recreation 2 2020 Progress Report – Zone 5 Expand and Develop Recreation Facilities and Programs • University Park CC phase 1 and 2 renovations complete; phase three under construction • Discussions with IFCC about programming and space underway • Lewis & Clark signage installed at Kelley Point and Cathedral Parks; overlook provided at confluence of Willamette and Columbia Rivers Develop Park Access, Trails and Connections • Smith and Bybee Lakes trail study by Metro nearing completion • Columbia Slough and Delta Park Trail segments associated with I-5 widening are under discussion • North Willamette Greenway Trail study complete; currently coordinating with River Plan – North Reach • Provide paved ADA trail at perimeter of Kelley Point Park = 3,865 linear feet • Port of Portland graded and paved 1.3 mile Rivergate segment of Columbia Slough Trail • Recreation masterplan completed for PIR & Heron Lakes Golf course, delineated desired trail system • Cooperated with Metro as they developed trailhead with restroom, parking, art and canoe launch at Smith & Bybee Wetlands Area; included modifications to Marine Drive Trail Park Sites to be Developed and Renovated • Develop New Park (0) • Redevelop Existing Park (1) • Extensive Renovation (1) • Basic Renovation (10) • Repairs (7) Habitat Park and Natural Areas RM Plan (6) Extensive Rehabilitation Basic Rehabilitationå January 2006 – Portland Parks & Recreation 3.
