Hyundai Motorsport Set to Field Trio of New Generation I20 Wrcs at Rally Sweden Hyundai Motorsport set to field trio of New Generation i20 WRCs at Rally Sweden Hyundai Motorsport will compete with three New Generation i20 WRC cars for the first time at next week’s Rally Sweden, second round of the 2016 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) Following its third place finish in the season-opener at Rallye Monte-Carlo last month, the team heads to Sweden with fond memories, having last year achieved a podium finish. Thierry Neuville will be joined by Hayden Paddon in the Hyundai Shell World Rally Team for this event with Dani Sordo representing the Hyundai Mobis World Rally Team. Alzenau, Germany February 5, 2016 - Fresh from its podium finish in the season-opening round of the 2016 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) at Monte-Carlo, Hyundai Motorsport moves to Sweden where it will compete with three New Generation i20 WRC cars for the first time. The New Generation i20 WRC made a successful debut at Rallye Monte-Carlo helping the team to take its first ever Monte stage wins as well as Power Stage points, and a third place finish. Hyundai Motorsport will now seek to put the New Generation i20 WRC through its paces on the snowy stages of Rally Sweden, where the team secured its debut podium of the 2015 season twelve months ago, with a three-car entry. Monte-Carlo podium men Thierry Neuville and Nicolas Gilsoul will return to the #3 car driving for the Hyundai Shell World Rally Team and will be joined by Kiwis Hayden Paddon and John Kennard in the #4 car. Dani Sordo and Marc Martí will participate in their first ever Rally Sweden as Hyundai Motorsport drivers this season, and will represent the Hyundai Mobis World Rally Team in a third New Generation i20 WRC. Rally Sweden is the WRC’s only true winter round, though it was first run in 1950 as a summer event for 15 years. Since the WRC’s inaugural 1973 running, Sweden’s frozen roads lined with deep snow banks have been an iconic staple of the championship, with the conditions making for exhilarating competition. Drivers expertly lean their cars against the snow banks to guide them around corners in a slingshot effect. In warmer temperatures, however, drivers must be wary as the banks disintegrate under pressure and catch cars, slowing or stopping them. New features for 2016 include the service park being situated at Karlstad Harbour, a more southerly location than its usual Hagfors airport base. Over a quarter of the special stage distance will be new compared to 2015, providing new challenges for the drivers. Service will be available only at the start and finish of each leg, emphasising to drivers the importance of a consistent approach, with Friday’s itinerary taking in a cross-border visit to Norway. Team Principal Michel Nandan said: “We visit Sweden in good spirits following our podium in Monte- Carlo but we know this will be another learning experience for our New Generation i20 WRC. We will be running three new cars for the first time in this rally with Thierry and Hayden in the Hyundai Shell WRT, and Dani - in his first Sweden rally with our team - driving for the Hyundai Mobis WRT. We have some experience of the new car in snowy conditions thanks to our Sweden test in mid- December so we will put this to good use as we prepare for this second round of the Championship. We have a lot of nice memories from Sweden with Thierry’s podium last year a real highlight. We have also had good performances on the legendary Colin’s Crest jump, so we’ll see if we can make it three in a row for a Hyundai Motorsport driver this year! Our three driver crews are motivated following some encouraging performances in Monte-Carlo, so we head to Sweden in determined mood and hoping to be on pace with the front-runners from the outset.” Neuville (#3 New Generation i20 WRC) took three stage wins and momentarily led Rally Sweden last year on his way to taking second overall. (SS18). The Belgian also laid claim to last year’s Colin’s Crest Award, breaking the record for the longest jump in the Vargåsen stage - a staggering 44m. He returns this year having already achieved a podium at the season-opener. Neuville commented: “I have very good memories of Sweden, especially from last year when we were fighting for the win until the last stage and ultimately finishing on the podium. It was a great result for us so of course I’m really looking forward to this year’s event, especially with the new car. We had a pretty good start to this season with the New Generation i20 WRC, finding improvements from the car day by day. Taking stage wins and a podium in our first event with the new car was a nice feeling and I hope we can take this forward to Sweden. It could be a really strong event for us so I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve.” Page 2 Paddon (#4 New Generation i20 WRC) will make his debut with the new car next weekend after a rally of learning in the 2015 specification i20 WRC in Monte-Carlo. The Kiwi had a strong run to fifth in Sweden last year and will be aiming to excel on familiar terrain. Paddon commented: “Monte-Carlo was full of difficult days, exactly as I expected it to be, but it was a good learning experience. We can look back on a very productive weekend but now I’m looking forward to my first taste of the New Generation i20 WRC. The team made great progress with the new car in Monte-Carlo and it was a real boost for everyone to get a podium. Sweden is a rally I really enjoyed last year and I particularly like rallying on snow. We want to put up a good performance for the team and for ourselves, to try to push towards the top-five for a good result, maybe even on the podium. We had a good run last year and I hope we can have another strong result with the New Generation i20 WRC.” Sordo (#20 New Generation i20 WRC) attends Rally Sweden for the first time as a Hyundai Motorsport driver, having missed 2015’s event through injury. The Spaniard is keen to improve on his Monte-Carlo result, where he finished sixth and took the team’s first Power Stage points of 2016. Sordo said: “Sweden is a really nice event and it is really good fun. I like to drive in the snow flat-out, which is a really special sensation. I enjoy this event a lot and can’t wait for my first participation as a Hyundai Motorsport driver. The conditions can be a little bit complicated when there is not really a full covering of ice; when the snow is soft, there is not very much grip. When it is icy and really good conditions, you can push hard because it grips just as well as gravel. I am looking forward to Sweden and building on my experience in the New Generation i20 WRC after making sure I had a safe and reliable start to this season.” This year’s Rally Sweden will cover 331.21km over 21 stages, starting with the traditional Super Special at the Karlstad trotting track on Thursday night where huge crowds will gather. Drivers will rally across two countries on Friday with a total of eight stages straddling Sweden and Norway. Saturday will then feature drivers taking on the snowy forests of the renowned Hagfors region with two runs of the classic Rämmen (22.76km) and Vargåsen (24.70km) stages, the latter featuring the Colin’s Crest jump. The exhilarating Hagfors Sprint (1.87km) breaks up the day before it finishes with a repeat of the Karlstad Super Special. Sunday offers two passes of the Lesjöfors (15.00km) and Page 3 Värmullsåsen (15.87km) stages, the latter run once as the rally’s Power Stage. Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F) were crowned World Rally Champions for the fourth time in a row after taking victory at the Rally Spain. They guided their Volkswagen Polo R WRC to a fifth win of the season in Catalonia, finishing ahead of Dani Sordo/Marc Martí (E/E, Hyundai) und Thierry Neuville/Nicolas Gilsoul (B/B, Hyundai). Their ninth podium in eleven races triggered wild celebrations. The Frenchmen can no longer be caught at the top of the overall standings in the 2016 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). Team-mates Andreas Mikkelsen/Anders Jæger (N/N) went into the Rally Spain as their closest rivals in the title race, but the Norwegians’ hopes of winning the championship were dashed when they were forced to retire from the rally.     Volkswagens segerrad bröts i Rally Argentina Sébastien Ogier och Julien Ingrassia utökade sin ledning i FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) med en andraplats i Rally Argentina. I en dramatisk final förlorade trefaldiga världsmästarna till Hayden Paddon/John Kennard (NZ/NZ, Hyundai), som tog sin första seger i World Rally Championship. Andreas Mikkelsen/Anders Jæger (N/N), som liksom Ogier/Ingrassia kör en Polo R WRC, kom på tredje plats. Volkswagens segersvit med tolv raka segrar tog slut i Argentina efter att teamet varit obesegrade i 355 dagar. Ogier/Ingrassia och Mikkelsen/Jæger tog den 73:e och 74:e pallplatsen för Polo R WRC i bilens 43:e rally sedan tävlingsdebuten 2013. Polo R WRC vann elva av de 18 specialsträckorna i Argentina. Ett extremt rally Rally Argentina betraktas som ett av de tuffaste i WRC-kalendern – och 2016 års rally förstärkte det ryktet. Vägbanan var mycket grov med ett underlag som på vissa ställen var stenigt och på andra sandigt. Samtidigt innehöll delsträckorna både smala, vindlande sektioner och snabba, mer följsamma partier.     MEDIA INFORMATION Alghero, June 14, 2015 2015 FIA World Rally Championship RALLY ITALIA SARDEGNA The MICHELIN LTX Force H4 and S4 tyres prove a match for Rally Italia Sardegna’s new stages Round six of the 2015 FIA World Rally Championship ended today in Alghero, northwest Sardinia, after almost 400 kilometres of competitive action and 1,100km of road sections. Saturday’s menu made it the longest single leg of the season with 212.3km stages and more than 15 hours of driving in the course of the day! The route was extensively modified compared with last year’s itinerary and the WRC runners faced a cocktail of narrow, tree-lined stages and a relatively hard-wearing surface including hard-to-spot half-buried rocks and sharp loose stones. This combination put the strength of the hard-compound (H4) and soft-compound (S4) version of MICHELIN LTX Force to a tough test over the event’s 23 timed tests. Additional challenges for the drivers, cars and tyres were the deep ruts that were carved out by the rain storms which swept over the Mediterranean island prior to the start, prompting the teams to adjust the ride-heights of the respective machines on occasions. Die Hyundai Motorsport GmbH bestätigt den französischen Rallye-Profi Bryan Bouffier als Testfahrer für das Jahr 2013. Damit steht nach der Bekanntgabe des Finnen Juho Hänninen der zweite Testfahrer für das Entwicklungsprogramm des Hyundai i20 WRC fest. Bryan Bouffier errang 2010 den Titel des französischen Rallyemeisters und gewann bereits drei Mal die polnische Rallye-Meisterschaft. Im Jahr 2011 siegte er in der IRC-Serie bei der legendären Rallye Monte Carlo und dominierte in jüngerer Zeit die Rallye-Europameisterschaft, Tour de Corse. Seine langjährigen Erfahrungen als Testfahrer und seine Expertise in der technischen Analyse sind wertvoll für den Aufbau des Teams, sowie zur weiteren Beurteilung und Entwicklung des Hyundai i20 WRC. Während Juho Hänninen den Hyundai i20 WRC bereits im Mai fahren konnte, hat Bryan Bouffier das Fahrzeug heute zum ersten Mal getestet. Die beiden Rallye-Profis sind 2013 die wichtigsten Testfahrer für das Hyundai Motorsport Team. In den nächsten Monaten werden sie von einer Reihe anderer Fahrer unterstützt.     MEDIA INFORMATION FIA World Rally Championship 2016 Rally Sweden – 2nd race MICHELIN X-Ice North 3 : a special tyre for the Nordic event of the season Normally, Rally Sweden is the only round of the FIA World Rally Championship to take place in totally wintry conditions. It is generally also the event which poses the fewest problems in terms of tyre choice. This year, however, the MICHELIN X-Ice North 3 and its 384 studs will need to deliver in conditions that are far from traditional. After the wide variety of stages featured on last month’s Rallye Monte-Carlo, the Swedish fixture tends to offer a more uniform terrain, with iced-over gravel tracks and, very often, snowy lanes lined by snow walls on which the drivers tend to lean when cornering. This time round, abnormally mild weather (zero degrees to almost 10°C in places) and heavy rain over the past week or so have made a certain number of the initially-planned stages impracticable. The organisers have consequently been compelled to shorten their event which will now feature just 13 stages instead of 21, a decision that has slashed the total competitive distance from a little more than 300km to 241km, and the overall route length from 1,500km to 1,396km. This evening’s originally-scheduled super-special at Karlstad’s hippodrome was the first victim of this choice, which means that competitive action will finally begin with SS2 – Torsby, a little longer than 16km - at 8:51am Friday. Friday’s SS5 and SS6, Saturday’s SS11, SS13 and SS15 and Sunday’s SS18 and SS19 have all been chopped, too.

    INFORMATION PRESSE 2014 FIA World Rally Championship ADAC Rallye Deutschland Michelin claims its first FIA WRC victory with Hyundai Motorsport and NEUVILLE / GILSOUL The ADAC Rallye Deutschland, round nine of the 2014 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), ended on Sunday, August 24, with the first win – and first one-two finish! – for Hyundai Motorsport in rallying’s showcase series. It was also the first world class success for Michelin in association with its Korean partner, the rallying department of which is based in Alzenau, Germany. After the promising third-place finishes they secured earlier in the year in Mexico and Poland, Thierry NEUVILLE and Nicolas GILSOUL put the N°7 Hyundai i20 WRC on the highest step of the podium in Germany, followed in the order by Dani SORDO and Marc MARTI in the N°8 sister car. Both Hyundai Motorsport crews survived what turned out to be a particularly taxing and drama-filled event. The Belgian pair produced a mature performance to claim their first WRC victory, while Dani SORDO provided another example of his speed on asphalt. The 2014 Rallye Deutschland took place in fickle weather and cool, autumn-like temperatures. Indeed, the delicate conditions and tricky stages caught out a high number of front-runners, resulting in some dramatic changes to the leaderboard. The changeable weather meant that both hard- and soft-compound tyres were used at different times depending on the teams’ respective strategies. The MICHELIN Pilot Sport H2 (hard) was the preferred choice for Friday’s dry roads, but the softer S2 version was the chief option for the remainder of the rally, including for the visits to the notoriously punishing Panzerplatte test.

It’s a huge shame that the recent warm weather has conspired to take the edge off what has to be one of the biggest sporting spectacles of the season: World Rally Cars dancing on ice. The World Rally Championship is full of stop-you-in-your-tracks moments and the sight of a World Rally Car on the lock-stops – front corner nibbling a snowbank at the apex while the opposite corner leans on a wall and fires powder 15 feet in the air – is right up there. Right up there. But it’s not to be this time. The warm weather has forced a complete rethink of the route and even blizzard conditions for the rest of the week wouldn’t be enough to deliver the perfect winter rally. Recipe for perfect winter roads: heavy (like heavy, heavy) snow, semi-melt, deep-freeze, light snow shower. The semi-melt puts moisture into the road and snow base which, when frozen hard, provides a rock-solid ice base for the studded tyres to dig into. The freeze will also pack the snowbanks really hard, allowing the guys to go a gear higher through some corners. We’re missing a couple of elements of that recipe this week! This week will be about staying out of trouble and keeping as many studs in place as possible. That in itself provides an intriguing event, however. Let’s see who can drive smart as well as super-quick in these compromised and challenging conditions.

    1 Dear motorist sport fans, Barum Czech Rally Zlín belongs to the most important motorsport events in the Czech Republic, in 2021 the rally will go for its 50th edition. The tradition of this event is closely connected to very high popularity of rallysport in this country and it has been year by year proved by the number of spectators. The importance of this rally was also readable from the media interest - in 2019, 275 journalist teams from 17 countries came to Zlín. The long-term partner of the event is the Barum Continental company. Connecting the biggest and the most successful tyre producer in the Czech Republic with the most important motorsport event in the country makes very solid relationship and helps to provide good name both the company and the rally. Like in the past, this tyre producer will be the main partner of the rally also during the 50th edition of the Barum Czech Rally Zlín. This rally, which is located in Moravian city of Zlín, has been developed during the years up to the top of the motorsport scene in the Czech Republic and every year it's been the pioneer with introducing new features and innovations to the rallysport. Since 1983 the rally has been a part of European Rally Championship and from 2007 it was a part promoted by TV station Eurosport. With this step the quality of the rally rose up. The rally HQ as well as the start and finish ramp are as usually located in the centre of Zlín city. The whole rally action will be launched with scrutineering held in Otrokovice Service Area on Thursday afternoon, August 26.
