This enables you to vote for the projects you like, and to donate to them; remember, it’s not WGA’s East Forsyth Street called a “crowd-funding” festival for nothing! “Venue” Pick up an event map. Hydrate. Then find the city block 11 East Forsyth Street curated by WGA. (south side of the street) Lunch (on your own … or meet up with WGA at the between Main and Ocean, 32202 southeast corner of Forsyth and Main at 1pm). 21 projects curated by Get together with friends. Hydrate again. Women’s Giving Alliance Stroll the streets, see all the rest. “Mob Hydration” with WGA (meet at the southeast corner 11 AM – 9 PM of Forsyth and Main at 4 pm). FREE WGA IS “CURATING” A BLOCK? Curators (like WGA) take over a venue and decide what projects can be displayed there to gather votes and funding. If a Curator does not invite a project to use a space, the Creator cannot come to One Spark, so it is a real job, with consequences. Here are some of the projects in our venue: The Pillowcase Project Boomerang Awards Media’s Fitting Finale Children’s Mental Health Research Revolutionalize the Legal Industry AmberGreenArt.com Fairy Godmothers Community/Urban Gardens Photography of Flowers Tibetan Exiles The Startup Student Bring Anthony Bourdain to JAX For a sneak preview of all 21 projects in the WGA venue, go to the One Spark website. WHERE IS THE “WGA BLOCK”? Our spot is called the “East Forsyth Street Venue” at 11 East Forsyth Street (south side of the street) between Main and Ocean, 32202. If you know downtown Jacksonville, we are across the street from the tall and distinctive “11 E. Forsyth” apartment building. We also are across the street from the new Jessie Ball duPont Center (the architecturally distinctive former Haydon Burns Library). Another easy way to find us is to know we are between the Food Village and the Beer Stations; there is likely to be a lot of foot traffic, so just follow the crowds! 11 East Forsyth Street WHAT OTHER PROJECTS SHOULD WE SEE? Because we have pored over the One Spark projects, we can give you ideas of where to go. One of our favorite areas (besides our own block) is the Times Union Center for the Performing Arts, 300 Water Street (five blocks away) which has projects relating to education, otherwise known as “Ed Spark;” this location is also indoors if you need a respite from the weather. WHY ONE SPARK IS IMPORTANT FOR WGA One Spark is emblematic of Jacksonville’s evolving innovation, art and social change scene. With more than 250,000 people expected, this is an important venue to get the word out about WGA, our mission, and our focus on mental health. By broadening our presence in the community, we can attract more members and extend our influence. One Spark is also an opportunity to connect our current members to the next generation – and to new ideas in philanthropy, social good, education, and more. The entire festival is about changing perceptions and expanding minds. We need to be part of the dialogue. THERE’S AN APP FOR THAT! If you use a smart-phone, download the One Spark app beforehand. You can register in advance … and have all kinds of information at your fingertips. Just search for “One Spark” in your source for applications. BE CONNECTED! To see photos, hear what other members are seeing and find friends: #WGA1spark and #OneSpark2015 WHAT ABOUT PARKING? The best free place to park is on the west side of downtown across from the Prime Osborn Convention Center (103 Johnson St., 32202). From there, take the free skyway train every three to six minutes and get off at Hemming Plaza (Hogan & Monroe Streets). The Library (where you should start) is across the street. Paid parking is available at several lots. Yates Building Garage at 200 East Adams St., FL 32202 is the closest to the Library and costs $10. Persons with disabilities may be dropped off on the corner of Laura Street and Duval Street near Hemming Plaza (across from the Library). PLEASE NOTE : all street parking within the festival area is suspended during One Spark, and many streets are closed. Also, this year, parking is NOT available at Everbank Field.
