Summer Technology Use

Is the over-use of technology limiting our ability to discuss ideas and converse with others? Researchers are beginning to note the need for Millennials to be coached around face-to-face communication. Educators have also noticed that this important life skill could use polishing. Some people have gone as far as declaring a “technology Sabbath” in order to disconnect and encourage deeper family and friend time around conversation. In my own family we designate “sacred times” for conversation when our devices our not handy. As we continue to work with our students, it is important for us to model a healthy relationship with technology. As we approach the quickened pace of summer, this may be a good time to pause and look at our technology practices. How are your connections and conversations going outside of social media?
