APRIL 18/19, 2020 | THE STORY OF METHUSELAH HARVEST KIDS AT HOME MINISTRY GOD IS PATIENT, WITH ME. Memory Verse: “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” Romans 12:12 (ESV) APRIL 18/19 | Week 1: The Story of Methuselah Scripture Story: Genesis 5:21-7 APRIL 25/26 | Week 2: The Story of Lot and Abraham Scripture Story: Genesis 19 MAY 2/3 | Week 3: The Story of Moses’ Brother Aaron Scripture Story: Exodus 32 MAY 9/10 | Week 4: The Story of Elijah Scripture Story: 1 Kings 17-18 MAY 16/17 | Week 5: The Story of Simeon the Priest Scripture Story: Luke 2:21-38 How can I live like I belong to Him? GOD IS PATIENT WITH ME: 1. When I have to learn the same lesson over and over. What does this mean? God understands we are just human. That doesn’t mean He is okay with our sin but that He is patient with us as we learn the same thing again and again. 2. When I blame Him for consequences. What does this mean? Often we see things that happen and think “How could God allow this?” In other words, we blame God. Yet God is patient with us as we learn to trust that He always uses everything for His glory. 3. When I blame Him for consequences of bad choices that I made. What does this mean? This one is easy! Even when we sin, we become angry that there are consequences. We don’t want to pay the consequence and yet God is patient with us as we learn to make better choices. His mercies are new every morning and in that fact we see His patience. 4. When I’m slow to see what He is doing. What does this mean? How many of you have prayed for something special? Maybe your dad needs a new job. Maybe you asked God to help your parents stop fighting. Maybe you asked Him to heal someone you love or help you on a test. We want to see God answer our prayers right away and it’s easy to get restless while we wait for Him to answer in His time. God is patient with me even when I’m not feeling patient with Him. PATIENT MOTIONS 1. Take a deep breath: Breathe with a big breath and hold it. Exhale. 2. Count to three: Mouth one, two, three while holding up your right hand and adding one finger for each number. 3. God is working on you: Point to someone else. 4. And He’s working on me: Slowly point to yourself. ASK & LISTEN Young children cannot answer questions on their own. They need your help. The intention of 100% Response Tools is to train children through modelling appopriate small group participation. We also want your child to engage in spiritual conversations with you at an age appropriate level. You are privileged to train your child to be in a small group and how to talk about our faith in a respectful manner. (Proverbs 22:6) 100% RESPONSE TOOL: Today’s 100% Response Tool is called “Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down”. Explain that you will say a statement and they should respond with a “thumbs up” if the statement is true and a “thumbs down” if the statement is not true. 1. 100% RESPONSE TOOL: The true story of Methuselah is found in the Bible. (Thumbs Up) 2. 100% RESPONSE TOOL: Methuselah’s father Enoch who loved God. (Thumbs Up) 3. 100% RESPONSE TOOL: God was so sad because most people didn’t love Him. (Thumbs Up) 4. 100% RESPONSE TOOL: Enoch’s son was named Methuselah. Methuselah name means “When he dies, God will bring judgment.” (Thumbs up) 5. 100% RESPONSE TOOL: Methuselah’s son named Lamech was the father of Noah. (Thumbs up) 6. 100% RESPONSE TOOL: God told Noah that He would destroy the earth. (Thumbs up) 7. 100% RESPONSE TOOL: The year that Methuselah died, the great flood came. God had given the people over 900 years to choose to be God’s friend. They told God no. (Thumbs up) 8. Parent/Caregiver: Share about a time when you waited on God or share something that you are currently waiting on God for. 9. Why does God want us to be patient? God wants us to be patient with others because it shows other people we love them. God asks us to love others as He loves us. PRAY “Let’s spend time in prayer. So we can focus on the Lord, let’s fold our hands and close our eyes. Thank You Father for loving us so much that You show us such great patience! We are thankful that You give us second chances when we mess up and You give us time to turn to You. Help us to be patient with others so they can see we love You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.” CREATE Supplies: Paper towel cut into squares, washable markers, shallow pan with 1” of water Ask your child to draw a picture that reminds them of situations when they are challenged with patience. Ask your child feeling questions. As you are talking, encourage your child to draw pictures of situations that challenge patience. When they have finished, ask your child to repeat the memory verse and the patient steps found on page one. Then help them drop each square into a shallow bowl of water. What happens to the picture? Application: When we take our time in a difficult situation and be patient with someone else, we will find that many times the situation calms down and dissolves like your pictures do. MEMORIZE Supplies: Bookmark (please print from web), Bible “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” Romans 12:12 (ESV) Instructions: 1.
