Natural Disasters, Coordination and DRR activity UPDATE: 25-31 October 2017

Natural Disaster Updates: Takhar:

As per initial report by ANDMA; reportedly 45 families were displaced from Shortaghai village to various locations in Yangi Qala districts due to high risk of riverbank erosion. A joint assessment team consisting of IOM, ANDMA, DoRR and DAC was mobilized for assessment of the displaced families on 25 October. During the coordination with district governor, the team was not allowed to visit the area due to security concerns, the district governor also stated that caseload seems to be fake. The assessment team together with district governor agreed to refer the caseload to ARCS for verification.

Nangrahar-Khogyani conflict IDPs: As per initial report obtained from ANDMA, around 2,000 families were reportedly displaced due conflict in Khogyani district on 16 October. 16 Joint assessment teams consisting of ARCS, IOM, ACTED, DORR, WFP/PAT, NRC, APA, DACAAR and NCRO initiated assessment in various locations of Khogyani, Surkh Road, Behsood and Jalalabad districts. So far 3,971 families were assessed of which 2,493 families were verified in need of humanitarian assistance. 1,027 families were assisted by UNHCR, NRC, WFP, SCI, ANDMA, DoRRD, DORR and ARCs with the provision of NFIs, food items, tents, emergency shelter, winter clothing and cash assistance. The assessment and response is ongoing in various locations. Jowzjan conflict IDP Update: As per initial report obtained from agencies during PDMC meeting on 28 October, around 1,000 families were reportedly displaced due to conflict in Darzab and Qushtapa districts. Two joint assessment teams consisting of WFP, ZoA, SCI, ANDMA, DoRRD, ACTED and ARCS were assigned to first verify the reported displacement and initiate assessment following verification. The team visited the areas with reported displaced families and verified families being displaced by recent conflict in Qushtepa district. The teams have initiated assessment of the families on 31 October, the findings of the assessment will be shared with the PDMC members once the assessment concludes.

Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR):

The second round of the Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) (early warning, search and rescue and first aid) training workshop initiated in two communities in Kapisa province. - Two communities in Kapisa province, Ashor Khil and Ghani Khil village, Mohmood Raqi, Kapisa Province, 27 October for five days. 82 members of the community (41 male and 41 female) including a staff from ANDMA, DoRRD are participating in the training.
