Some years ago it came to my knowledge that this genus occurs in Japan, and this stimulated my particular interest in this genus on account of its distributional pattern. With the help of many entomologists there have been available for my study a good number of species of the genus collected in Japan and Taiwan in addition to the already described three from North America. A revision of the genus on the basis of these species is here attempted in the hope that it should engage the attention of entomologists in both Asia and America to this interesting genus, since it is quite possible that our knowledge still covers small part of the genus. The genus Nepalomyia is more fully characterized and the Nearctic species are revised. Nepalomyia nigricornis (Van Duzee) and N. sombrea (Harmston & Knowlton) are reassigned and redescribed. Two new species, N. dilaticosta Runyon & Hurley and N. hesperia Runyon & Hurley, are described. Diostrucus morimotoi sp. nov. is distinctive in having additional setulae on scutellum, and extensively yellow legs and it is described from southern part of the Korean Peninsula. Diostrclcus maculatus Negrobov, 1980, described from the Primorsky Territory is here recorded from many localities in southern Korea. Key words: Taxonomy, Diptera, Dolichopodidae, Diostracus, Korea. new species. Introduction The hydrophorine genus Diostracus Loew, 1861, includes dolichopodids living on wet rocks and stones in mountain streams.Although it is widely distributed in the northern hemisphere from Europe to North America through Eastern Asia. it prospers extremely in temperate Eastern Asia, where 62 out of 66 named species are distributed. This genus is known from Europe, the best-surveyed region for dolichopodid fauna. only by Diostrucus Zeucostomus (Loew) from Alps, and from N. America by three species. Numbers of species in each region in Eastern Asia are as follows: Far East Russia (5). Japan (12), Taiwan (3), China (l), Burma (4), Nepal (37+1 unnamed). -

B iCkel 2 The Australian Museum, 6–8 College Street, Sydney, NSW 2000, Australia; email: [email protected] The genus Paraliancalus was originally proposed by Parent (1938) for the single endemic Hawaiian species Liancalus metallicus Grimshaw, 1901, a widespread species found on most of the main Hawaiian islands. it is one of the largest Hawaiian dolichopodids, being some 8 mm in length. Possibly due to this large size and assuming the genus contained only one species, dolichopodid workers have not paid close attention to specific morphological characters of the specimens, assuming all belonged to the type species, P. metallicus . Recently, examination of a few male specimens in the Bishop Museum by one of us (DJB), showed that the genus is actually represented in Hawaii by two morpho-species, both of which are similar in appearance but differ in leg and genitalic characters. After borrowing specimens from the University of Hawai‘i insect Museum and examining all material in the Bishop Museum, we conclude that there are indeed two species of Paraliancalus in Hawai‘i. We herein describe and illustrate the second species as Para - liancalus laciniafemur , n. sp ., which is thus far known only from the island of Maui. -

E-mail: [email protected] Abstract The new micro-dolichopodid genus Haromyia gen. nov. and the type species H. iviei sp. nov. are described from the island of Dominica in the Lesser Antilles. Males and females of Haromyia are distinguished by the large setae on a bulging clypeus, minute size, and wing veins that are nearly straight and evenly diverging from wing base. Haromyia does not fit readily into any contemporary dolichopodid subfamily, although it superficially resembles the Enliniinae and Achalcinae. Haromyia should be regarded as incertae sedis until the dolichopodid subfamilies can be refined, particularly to better incorporate the tropical diversity of this large family. Key words: Neotropical, micro-dolichopodid, Enlinia, Harmstonia, West Indies, Achalcinae, clypeal setae Introduction Robinson’s monograph of the Dolichopodidae of Dominica (Robinson 1975), a product of the multi-year Bredin- Archbold-Smithsonian Biological Survey, documented 113 species in 30 genera from the island. Three new genera, Cryptopygiella Robinson, Dominicomyia Robinson, Micromedetera Robinson, and 69 new species were described in that work (Robinson 1975). -

Introduction The family Dolichopodidae, commonly known as Long legged flies, are one of the most diverse families of Diptera (Grichanov,1999). Adult dolichopodids vary in size from about 1-9 mm in length and can be recognized by their elongate legs, reduced wing venation, aristate antennae, and relatively slender build. Most species are metallic greenish-blue to greenish-bronze, while some others are non-metallic yellowish (e.g., some species of Achalcus Loew, Argyrochlamys Lamb, Neurigona Rondani, Xanthochlorus Loew and Xanthina Aldrich), or brown to blackish (e.g., several species of Micromorphus Mik and Medetera Fischer von Waldheim). Dolichopodids are widespread and are found in all zoogeographic regions (Robinson,1970; Dyte, 1975; Dyte and Smith ,1980; Bickel and Dyte, 1989; Negrobov, 1991; Pollet et al., 2004). In general, adults and larvae prefer moist environments including stream and lake margins, humid forests, saltmarshes, seashores, and freshwater seepages, where they often occur in large numbers. -

Altogether nine species are recorded for the first time from Portugal and six species from Spain. Three species are described as new to science: Chrysotimus meridionalis sp. nov. (Spain, Portugal), Hercostomus ibericus sp. nov. (Spain), and Sciapus negrobovi sp. nov. (Portugal). Key words: Dolichopodidae, Iberian Peninsula, Spain, Portugal, new species, new records Introduction The Dolichopodidae, or long-legged flies, are small to medium sized flies of slender built with a body length of 1– 12 mm. Most species have a conspicuous metallic green shiny body and relatively long legs. It is a large family of Diptera comprising some 7400 described species occurring in all biogeographical regions (Pape et al. 2011). In Europe more than 800 species and subspecies are recorded (Pollet 2004). Adults are predators on soft-bodied invertebrates and some are important control agents of pest species. -

E-mail: [email protected] Abstract The formerly Oriental genus Griphophanes Grootaert & Meuffels, 1998 and mainly Oriental genus Nepalomyia Hollis, 1964, are recorded from the Afrotropical Region for the first time. Descriptions of four new species: Griphophanes congoensis sp. nov. and G. garambaensis sp. nov. from DR Congo, Nepalomyia kotrbae sp. nov. and N. reunionensis sp. nov. from Reunion are provided. A key to genera of Peloropeodinae and a key to species of Griphophanes are compiled. Key words: DR Congo, Reunion, Diptera, Dolichopodidae, Griphophanes, Nepalomyia, new species, key Introduction The Griphophanes Grootaert & Meuffels, 1998 (nom. nov. for Griphomyia Grootaert & Meuffels, 1997) was described for a single species G. gravicaudatus (Grootaert & Meuffels, 1997) from Thailand, though Lim et al. (2010) have mentioned an undescribed Oriental species of the genus. No species have since been described. The authors included the genus in the subfamily Peloropeodinae, and this was followed in the ‘World Catalog of Dolichopodidae’ (Yang et al. 2006). Nepalomyia Hollis, 1964 is mainly an Oriental genus with totally 63 known species, of which four species are known from the Nearctic and two species from the Palaearctic Region. It was also placed in the subfamily Peloropeodinae (Runyon & Hurley 2003). -
