The company is the top manufacturer of ship propellers with its domestic market share standing at 70% and its global market share at 30%. Union between three-dimensional processing technology and the craftsmen’s finishing operation Nakashima Propeller Co. offers a full range of propellers from small to large and is capable of providing a full set of services ranging from design to production and technology support. It is also capable of delivering high-quality products on short notice. In order to produce a large propeller, firstly, it is necessary to sculpt a sand mold, cast copper alloy in it to produce a metal cast, and then process it with high-performance NC machine tools. In addition, the edges of the propeller have to be ground to an accuracy of 1-100th millimeter by hand. Since the propeller is about 13-sq.-meter large and has a helicoidal surface, it is said to be difficult to determine anomalies even with modern computers. But the company’s veteran craftsman can handle it with his fingers. Challenging new business fields by making use of technology potential By taking advantage of these technology potentials, the company has been aggressively challenging new business fields, such as development of artificial joints, medical-operation support robots, development of system software, and three-dimensional modeling system. In 2005, the company received the first “Award of Japan for Crafting”. Craftsman’s skill to determine anomalies as small as 0.01 mm Propeller for large vessel 301 Takaya Enjoys the top market Corporation share in the world in 661-1 Ibara-cho, Ibara City, Flying probe test systems Okayama Prefecture Established in 1917 Tel +81-866-62-2015 http://www.takaya.co.jp Tamiichi Ohtsuka President The company led the world in the manufacture of Flying probe test systems for printed-circuit boards used in electric equipment. The company holds the largest global market share of 60%. Shift from textile business to the semiconductor area In response to changes in the post-war industrial and employment structures in Japan, the company has diversified its business field from the textile industry to the electronics industry. It has expanded its business by merging with a major semiconductor manufacturer in the field of the semiconductor post-processing business and entered the semiconductor business by capital participations in local electronic component makers. Global market share of 60% The so-called Fixtureless tester, pioneered by the company employing high speed independently moving probes for detection of manufacturing defects on printed circuit board, has been well received by electronic equipment manufacturers and EMS/CM plants around the world. The company has captured the largest global market share of 60% and established itself as the “leader in board testers.” The company is also engaged in the assembling business for mobile phones and other information & communication equipment, as well as developments of control system for IC tags. Commitment to domestic production While many Japanese corporations are shifting their production bases abroad, Takaya Corp. has been maintaining its policy of focusing on domestic production by utilizing its technological innovation and creativity. Fabrics woven in this manner have strong tear and torsional strength are expected to be used in a wide range of fields. Accumulated technology to produce tough fabrics through Webbing slings production The company started as a manufacturer of fabrics for handbags etc. and tablecloths in 1963. The company developed new products in the field of Webbing slings, or belts for heavy-duty lifting, in 1974 and thereafter expanded its businesses by enhancing its technical capabilities. Development of Tetras® automatic loom; first in the world Tetras® fabrics are those that have two yarns woven obliquely to a warp-and-weft fabric. They have strong dimensional stability in all directions and their teat strength is twice as strong as ordinary fabrics. Triaxial woven fabrics in which two yarns are woven obliquely to a weft had been available. The company has successfully commercialized tetra fabrics for the first time in the world. The company hit on the idea of developing the technology from hand-knit rattan chairs. After developing a test model, the company came up with Tetras® automatic looms in 1989 and began marketing them recently. Put to practical use in sporting goods and speakers Tetras® fabrics have been used in tennis rackets and shafts of golf clubs produced by major sporting-goods manufacturers. Recently, they have come to be used in speaker cones (diaphragms). Since Tetras® fabric has strong torsional strength, golfers using the clubs can enhance direction and carry. Speakers using tetras fabric are also well received, as they produce clear-cut sounds. The technology is expected to have wide application not only in textile-related fields but also in a wide range of other fields, including automobile, aerospace, medical services, and construction. With its vast land and nature, Hokkaido is known to many tourists as a treasure trove of food, including seafood, agriculture, dairy products, wine, and sake. Of all the edible wonders this prefecture offers, there is one unique item that is not only popular among tourists, but is also a staple for locals: Genghis Khan. Genghis Khan is a lamb/mutton barbeque that uses uniquely-shaped skillets. One of the most common skillet shapes is that of a soldier’s helmet. The meat is grilled in the centre of the skillet, which rises in the middle like a mountain, and fresh local vegetables—common choices are bean sprouts, cabbage, onions, and pumpkin slices—are steamed on the rims with the juice that flows from the meat on top. Genghis Khan is often prepared in a cook-your-own style: diners grill the meat and vegetables by themselves, whether they are at home or in a restaurant. This makes Genghis Khan a great social opportunity as well, and even locals often go out to enjoy grilling up some Genghis Khan with glasses of local beer in hand.

This was highly significant in the historical process of the Japanese nation in that it marked the first instance of a nationally organized resistance against the contemporary ruling authority. As the prevailing clamor for liberty and popular rights was organized into a vast movement on a national scale embracing all classes of the people, it marked· a significant development for it was intrinsically distinguishable from the sporadic farmers' rebellious uprisings which were often recorded during the ancien regime, and, seen in this light, the movement for liberty and popular rights would well be de fined as a democratic revolutionary movement.

Taking account of the latest elasmo- branch data and preliminary strontium isotope ratio, the age of the formation is confined to the late Late Eocene. The present and recent results show that the First Seto Inland Sea was actually composed of two sea areas that existed at different times: the Paleogene sea area is estimated to have been an open sea facing south to the Pacific Ocean, whereas that in the Miocene is thought to have been an em- bayment connected to the northwest to the Sea of Japan.

HTT18-P07 Japan Geoscience Union Meeting 2018 Geochemistry of river waters collected from the Okayama and Tottori Prefectures, Japan *Katsuyuki Yamashita1, Takahiro Kamei1, Yuga Kishimoto1, Aya Ooi2, Ayaka Onishi2, Yoko Kurihara2, Masahiko Mori2, Hitoshi CHIBA1, Ki-Cheol Shin3, Takanori Nakano3,4 1. Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Okayama University, 2. Faculty of Science, Okayama University, 3. Research Institute for Humanity and Nature, 4. Faculty of Science and Engineering, Waseda University A detailed geochemical and isotopic study of river waters from the Okayama and Tottori Prefectures, Japan, has been undertaken in order to evaluate the water-soil (rock) interaction, as well as human impact on the geochemical nature of the river water. A total of 646 samples were collected from 442 locations since 2011. The pH, EC, and water temperature were measured on site, and the major dissolved components, trace element (47 elements) concentrations, and O-H-S-Sr isotope ratios were measured in the laboratory. These data are being used to construct the geochemical maps of the river water of the two prefectures. In 2017, we focused on the investigation of the central to western Tottori Prefecture. The river waters in the area are generally characterized by high Rb and Cs concentrations, which likely reflect the presence of dacitic lava and volcanic sediments of the Daisen volcano. A similar pattern is also observed for Si and V concentrations. The oxygen isotope ratio displays a clear altitude effect. The d-excess value is high in the northern Okayama and Tottori Prefectures (>20), compared to the southern Okayama prefecture (5~15).

  • Outline O F the Carboniferous Trilobites in Japan*'
104 Proc. Japan Acad., 55, Ser. B (1979) [Vol. 55(B), 21. Outline of the Carboniferous Trilobites in Japan*' By Teiichi KOBAYASHI, M. J. A., and Takashi HAMADA University of Tokyo (Communicated March 12, 1979) In the Carboniferous fauna of Japan trilobites have been a small group represented by only five species (Sugiyama, 1944; Okubo,1951; Endo and Matsumoto, 1912), but recently it was considerably am- plified with fresh materials from old and new localities. At present they attain as much as almost six times in specific number, beside some indeterminable forms. These trilobites are classifiable into two major groups which represent the Kitakami trilobite facies (Kt) in non-calcareous rocks in Northeast Japan and the Akiyoshi trilobite facies (Ak) in lime- stones in the Inner Zone of Southwest Japan. None has so far been discovered from the Outer Zone. The trilobites of these two biof acies belong to sixteen genera in two families and seven subfamilies in the Proetidae as follows : I. Proetinae 1. Proetinae: Pudoproetus (Ak), Conophillipsia (Kt) 2. Cyrtosymbolinae: Archaegonus (Angustibole) (Ak), Waribole (Ak) Phillibole (Kt), Carbonocoryphe (Ak) 3. Phillipsiinae: Phillipsia (Kt) 4. Linguaphillipsiinae: Linguaphillipsia (Kt, Ak), Palaeophillipsia (Kt) 5. Cummingellinae: Cummingella (Ak) 6. Griflithidinae: Grifithidella (Ak), Thigriffides (Ak), Paragrif thides (Ak), Humilogriffithides (Ak) 7. Ditomopyginae: Paladin (Paladin, Weberides) (Kt) II. Brachymetopidae: Brachymetopus (Brachymetopus, Brachymetopella) (Ak) As listed above, the Phillipsinae is restricted to the Kitakami facies and so are the Cummingellinae, Grifithidinae and Brachymeto- pidae to the Akiyoshi facies, but the Proetinae, Cyrtosymbolinae and Linguaphillipsiinae are contained in the two facies. In the generic level, however, there is none common between the two facies.
