  • Religious Pluralisation in Slovenia
Aleš ČRNIČ, Mirt KOMEL, Marjan SMRKE, Ksenija ŠABEC, Tina VOVK* RELIGIOUS PLURALISATION IN SLOVENIA Abstract. The article analyses the dynamics of religious plu- ralisation in Slovenia. Historical developments in various states have kept Slovenians almost exclusively within the Roman-Catholic Church, except for a short Reformation period. The socialist after-war secularisation of society has in many respects undermined the Catholic monopoly, but it failed to create an open religious market. In the transi- tional period the statistics of Catholics continued to drop, and at the same time ever more new religious movements emerged. These are mostly very small and at the time being do not show the potential for substantial growth. The arti- cle analyses in detail religious pluralisation in the regions of Ljubljana and Nova Gorica. Keywords: religious pluralisation, Catholic Church, reli- gious market, secularisation 205 From religious monopoly to pluralisation – historical contexts The polytheistic forefathers of today’s Slovenians settled in the hills and valleys between the north-eastern shores of the Adriatic and south-eastern fringes of the Alps during the 6th and 7th centuries CE. The proximity of the Salzburg Archbishopric and Aquileia Patriarchate ensured that these settlers soon became the target of missionaries who were not only in pursuit of reli- gious conversion but also, on behalf of their feudal rulers, strove to achieve political subjugation. Following the capture of Slav nobles, who were held as hostages, the loosely aligned and self-determining tribal state of Carantania bowed to the pressure; however, adherents to the tradition that worshiped personifications of nature – and in particular such deities as Veles, Mokoš and Perun – were to take up arms against the new order on at least two occasions.

  • CONSTITUTIONS Commentary
CONSTITUTIONS: Identity, memory and prophecy Theological, historical and charismatic comments Claretian Missionary Sisters What happens with us is an extraordinary thing that God wants…. (Letter of St. Anthony M. Claret to M. A. Paris 1/30/1862) Our Lord is not asking for anything new in His Church, we are all only asked to fulfill our promises (M. Antonia Paris PR 12) 1 General Presentation The Constitutions enlighten and guide us in Understanding what the Lord wants from us… We must read them and reflect about them with a live faith, Consoling hope and burning charity… We will carefully keep them To be faithful to the commitment We made the day of our profession… (Epilogue of the Constitutions.) It is with great joy that I present you with the work CONSTITUTIONS, Theological, Historical and Charismatic Commentary that has been compiled with great attention, effort and love by some of our sisters. I am sure that its reading, study and prayer, personally as well as in community, will be a source of enrichment and renewal of our life and mission. In Prefectae Caritatis the Church teaches us that the ultimate rule in religious life is to follow Christ. Canon 662 emphasizes that this following must be exactly as proposed in the Scriptures and exactly as it is expressed in the constitutions of our Institute. The Constitutions are a way of re-reading of the Scriptures carried out by the Founders as an answer to the enlightenment by the Holy Spirit. Our Foundress clearly expresses this particular awareness of obedience to the Holy Spirit in her letters: Our Rules and Constitutions are the work of God, not a human invention, and as such we owe it respect… I have put nothing of my head; I have only been the meager and useless tool that the Lord has used… The Constitutions are a written law, but not in a rigid or absolute way in a piece of paper, but in the heart… The written rules represent the laws carved in the founders’ heart first, and then in the heart of those that, having received the same God gift, are attracted to the same charisma.

  • Be Claretian Today – SEMINAR
“TO BE CLARETIAN FOR TODAY’S WORLD” Our identity And Charismatic belongingness CONGREGATIONAL SEMINAR 2010 1 MOTIVATION The lastly enlighten events such as 200years of birth anniversary of Saint Antony Mary Claret and 125 years of death anniversary of Maria Antonia Paris, and as we near the XVI General Chapter it has all moved us to organize a congregational reflection on the charism. We also consider important the motivations as: The world we live there is an accelerated evolution and complexity. It demands us to deepen our identity for a better response to the challenges of the mission. We are aware that with time we will carry out our mission in a more adverse background and solitude. Many times, the urgency of the mission will leave us alone, each one in her work and responsibility, facing the situations and apostolic activities, for which we need lot of depth and charismatic profoundness. The actual reality of our communities is: Some numerous and with lot of elderly sisters, others small in number; some are formed by very young sisters. Even within the same Entity, because it is formed by various countries, there are big distances: geographically, culturally, in age, of formation, etc. but all are called to respond evangelizing mission. The cultural and geographical expansion of the Congregation needs means to revitalize the sense of unity and belongingness. Especially the new foundations in Asia and Africa where there are more young sisters with less opportunity to have contact with the traditions, the written doctrines and charismatic places, without the presence of the elderly sisters who can be near them.

Religious Orders, catholic Men's lic: committed to a particular religious life. The Catholic Church, however, makes a distinction between religious orders and religious congrega tions' The religious life for both orders and congregations is cCjlOstituted by the traditional vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. The canonical distinction between orders and congre gations mainly deals with the ease with which the vows may be dispensed with and the right of members of congregations to retain ownership, but not the use, of private property. Religious orders require the taking of solemn vows, and religiOUS congregations require only simple vows. With minor exceptions, after a year or two of novitiate or spiritual training, the new members of both orders and congregations take temporary vows (for example, for three years) and then later permanent or perpetual vows.
