Revermann, Johannes Wie Setzt Quentin Tarantino Im Zuge Seiner Regiearbeit Filmische Mittel Ein, Um Moralische Aspekte Darzustellen? Fachbereich Medien Revermann, Johannes Wie setzt Quentin Tarantino im Zuge seiner Regiearbeit filmische Mittel ein, um moralische Aspekte darzustellen? - Bachelorarbeit - Hochschule Mittweida – University of Applied Science (FH) Mittweida – 2009 Fachbereich Medien Revermann, Johannes Wie setzt Quentin Tarantino im Zuge seiner Regiearbeit filmische Mittel ein, um moralische Aspekte darzustellen? - eingereicht als Bachelorarbeit - Hochschule Mittweida – University of Applied Science (FH) Erstprüfer Zweitprüfer Prof. Peter Gottschalk Olaf Brill, M.A. • Violent Femmes: Women As Spies in Popular Culture / Rosie White
Violent Femmes The female spy has long exerted a strong grip on the popular imagination. With reference to popular fiction, film and television Violent Femmes examines the figure of the female spy as a nexus of contradictory ideas about femininity, power, sexuality and national identity. Fictional repre- sentations of women as spies have recurrently traced the dynamic of women’s changing roles in British and American culture. Employing the central trope of women who work as spies, Rosie White examines cultural shifts during the twentieth century regarding the role of women in the professional work- place. Beginning with an examination of the male spy in popular fiction, White’s revealing book then moves on to examine female spies, comparing and contrasting numerous female spies in investigative case studies with the aim of answering the following questions: Howhavedepictionsofthefemalespychangedoverthetwentiethcentury? What can Modesty Blaise tell us about women in the 1960s and 1970s? Does Alias offer an ideal vision of the working woman in the twenty-first century? Are women in Western culture now seen as agents of their own futures? In the twentieth century, a period when women’s relationship with public life and state authority was changing radically, the female spy in all her forms offers a suggestive account of the effects of, and resistances to, such transformations. Violent Femmes examines the female spy as a figure in popular discourse which simultaneously conforms to cultural stereotypes and raises questions about women’s roles in British and American culture, in terms of gender, sexuality and national identity. Immensely useful for a wide range of courses such as Film and Television Studies, English, Cultural Studies, Women’s Studies, Gender Studies, Media Studies, Communications, and History, this book will appeal to students from undergraduate level upwards.

FADE IN: EXT. CITY SQUARE - DAY A building pock-marked with bullet-holes. SANCHEZ (V.O.) (heavily accented English) The Presidential Palace. Building with the most bullet-holes in the world. National symbol. (beat) Tells you all need to know about this country. WILLIE (V.O.) (thick Cockney accent) Looks like room for a few more yet. PULL BACK away from the building, taking in the full expanse of the main square - the hustle and bustle of traffic and pedestrians clashing with the classical buildings. LA PAZ, BOLIVIA Continue to PULL BACK until we FOCUS on a cafeteria, tables lining the pavement - waiters dashing around to deal with the rash of customers. Mid-afternoon rush. PUSH IN on two middle-aged men at one table, both neglecting their coffees, preferring to stare at each other instead. One’s swarthy, curly-haired and native - SANCHEZ. The other is shaven-headed, well-built, with dangerous eyes. He smokes a cigarette casually, but he’s ready for anything. Meet WILLIE GARVIN. SANCHEZ In Bolivia, a gun’s like part of your hand. Natural. Is a great day when a boy gets his first gun. Tradition. He leans forward, sneering at an impassive Willie. SANCHEZ (CONT’D) So why do you not have one? You’re insulting us. Our ways. Why? Are you a coward? SLAM! Willie moves like lightning - he pulls a knife out of his jacket and HAMMERS it into the table. Perfectly between the fingers of Sanchez’ outlaid hand. Getting to his feet, Willie seethes in Sanchez’ ear. 2. WILLIE Listen here, sonny Juan.
