None comic readers may this of Loki as a cis but as far back as Norse mythology Loki has always been a gender fluid character. The series then lead into Loki Agent of Asgard where series writer Al Ewing had said that Loki is bisexual and that he intended to explore that. While this didn't seem to be explored in the final results we saw we did see Al Ewing and the rest of the creative team exploring Loki's gender to degrees. In Agent of Asgard Loki states that they can only become themselves hence being able to take a female form. After Loki's death they are revived this time as the goddess of stories. Loki constantly switches between genders and the people reacting to them use the pronoun of whatever Loki displays to address them. We also see once again Loki explaining to a character that they feel themselves beyond the binary during these events. Sadly the only version we have in current publication of Loki is "evil". The editors at Marvel seem to have a misunderstanding of Loki's gender when asked about them at a convention they replied "Will the Loki be Guy Loki or Girl Loki we can't say. So do not read Mighty Thor if you are looking for more Genderfluid representation. Young Avengers volume 2 [1]. Claudia Caranfa Illustrator ,. Josh Burns Illustrator ,. The style isn't as good as Young Avengers but the plot is miles better. The art is nothing special and the Axis tie-in in the middle is ok but once again, Marvel and their events just derailing stories is annoying. Jul 16, Azuma-chan rated it liked it Shelves: loki. I dunno how I feel about this. The very beginning from issue 1 was super exciting but then I felt like l lost interest. Could be me not getting it or something. Anyway, actual rating 2. Nov 28, James rated it really liked it Shelves: myth , ebook , collection , fantasy , comics , superhero. Fantastic rounding-out of the post-Kid Loki storylines. Sep 01, Ernest rated it really liked it. This volume is good, really good. The story twists and turns, providing little time to set into a predictable and thus here boring pattern. Loki has tried to atone for his mistakes, and through his atonement he has discovered the truth about himself. He is his own worst enemy. I think they Ewing did a great job pulling in Young Avengers, Kid Loki, and meshing it with the appeal of the Loki of the Marvel Cinematic Universe while still letting it be true to itself. I can honestly say that this series ended on a strong note, and the very last issue was one that had me desperate for more. Loki has been a lot of things to a lot of people…but I think the God of Stories might be a personal favorite now. Oct 14, Jorge Lopez rated it did not like it. What the Hell did I just read? The epic story that Kieron Gillen started in Journey into Mistery has been clearly influenced by the success of Tom Hildelstorm playing Loki in the Avengers movie, forcing the character to even have the looks of the actor in this comic book and gave us a correct transition into Loki: Agend of Asgard. This series started well, had good concepts and ideas with an interesting setting, but somehow started to deflate after the end of the first volume until the point where What the Hell did I just read? This series started well, had good concepts and ideas with an interesting setting, but somehow started to deflate after the end of the first volume until the point where I lost all interest in knowing what happens next. When the deranged narrative got to the point where Odin and the Asgardians arm themselves with machine guns I almost left the comic as unfinished. As a matter of fact, had this not happened with only a couple numbers left, I would have probably abandoned this and left it as DNF. Mar 28, Keara rated it it was amazing Shelves: read-favorites , 1-wishlist , read-series-ends , March Whoa nelly, this was a wild ride. Suddenly most of the nonsense of the first two volumes made sense?? And these comics are incredible and you should read the first two volumes if only so you can read the third one. It was just Apr 19, Mir rated it really liked it Shelves: graphic , fantasy , mythology. It's never the end of all stories. They get everywhere. Like roaches. Jul 07, Kaiti rated it liked it. This series started out so strong and then just went downhill Aug 08, J'aime rated it really liked it Shelves: graphic-novel , marvel-dc. All of reality will be obliviated. Every series I was reading up to this event was ruined by Incursion being shoe-horned into the narrative, and them stopping it cold - because EVERY series either relaunched or was canceled in the wake of the event. And the writing for the event itself was monotonous and boring try to stop an incursion, fail, repeat ad nauseum. That said, I think AoA was the only series that used the Last Days in a way that made sense for the character and worked. King Loki is trying to destroy it all because he DID change, and no one would accept it. To everyone he was still the God of Lies, and nothing more, so he decided to fill that role and take it to the maximum. Loki is learning about himself, and what he wants to be. And he makes his choice. Eight months later, the final Incursion is upon the Marvel Universe, and King Loki is reveling in it by driving all the forces of Asgard and Hel into battle. This makes for several pages of epic action scenes, that are fun but have no consequence. Overall, though it has some problems, I still enjoyed the volume and felt it was a solid ending for AoA in light of Incursion. The ending, Loki versus King Loki, was insanely clever, emotional and just worked for the character. As did his response to the universe ending — pure Loki. I liked her relationship with Loki. It was the highlight of this series. Jun 21, Cassandra Elise rated it liked it. The Agent of Asgard series started out so well. It was fresh and funny, rife with pop cultural and mythological references, showing a different side to Loki and examining such heady topics and fate vs. But then it was as if author Al Ewing bit off more than he could chew, and in the last two volumes, the story-line starts to unravel. That's not to say there aren't some great moments in the final volume. We get some touching moments between Odin and Loki. The humor, which was largely m The Agent of Asgard series started out so well. The humor, which was largely missing from Volume 2, is back. But there are plot points that are confusing. For instance, Loki dies for a third time and comes back, making him Loki 4, god of stories. Just to clarify, OG Loki died saving the universe from the Void. Then he was reborn as innocent Kid Loki, and all of his evil was stored in the crow Ikol. Then Ikol tricked kid Loki and killed him, and their two bodies converged to create Loki: Agent of Asgard. In this final volume Loki, agent of Asgard is killed by an ancient OG Loki who wandered in from an alternate timeline where he didn't die. Got that? Then Loki, god of stories, is born, finds his friend Verity, changes into a woman, and kills her best friend in an effort to take her along because the universe is ending. In the final showdown, Loki, now a man again, stops Ragnorak by becoming ultra-meta and hopping into a different comic book series where people aren't all killing each other. Because he's learned that it's his own story, and he can make the ending he wants. Is it original? Does it make any sort of sense? Umm, nooo. It's almost as if Ewing is making a mockery of all of those comic series where Iron Man or Captain America die only to be resurrected in some alternate universe. It's as if Ewing is saying, "Nothing matters. No actions have any consequences in comics. They can always be rewritten. But considering the story started out with a huge quandary of how Loki was going to escape his fate, the ending feels like a cop out. I give this volume a 3. I rate the whole series a 4 out of 5 stars. It could have been amazing, but some of the execution just went astray. Nov 27, Kat rated it really liked it Shelves: comics , fantasy. Older "King Loki" who was pulled back into being by the All-Mothers, has his younger self trapped and regales him with the tale of his cunning plan and of how young Loki becomes King Loki, setting everything aflame. I got a distinct impression that this older Loki is a wee bit insane, clearly trapped in his role and relishing it with feverish desperation. But younger Loki isn't having any of it, not when he's worked so hard to actually change rather than just wiggling around in a pre-determined Older "King Loki" who was pulled back into being by the All-Mothers, has his younger self trapped and regales him with the tale of his cunning plan and of how young Loki becomes King Loki, setting everything aflame. But younger Loki isn't having any of it, not when he's worked so hard to actually change rather than just wiggling around in a pre-determined role. And he takes the appellation that he can't shake, "the God of Lies," and turns it into something else: "The God of Stories. As a writer, this reinterpretation really appealed to me. It was a really neat twist on Loki's story, although the ending made me kind of go, "Huh? Where do we go from here? How does this tie back into the larger Marvel narrative? Still, cool story with lovely artwork throughout and I'm glad I read it. Loki has undergone some changes in the past few years. He died. He came back as a kid. The kid grew up -- like overnight, maybe. An older Loki from the future shows up and is evil and he is messing with the new grown-up, trying to be good Loki. This is Loki's story. When Loki was in the Thor movie, he got a lot of fans despite being the bad guy. Marvel said cool, let's make some money. Okay, that is the cynical Loki has undergone some changes in the past few years. Okay, that is the cynical view. The less cynical view is that they decided they wanted to explore the character of Loki and the concept of being true to yourself -- and they wanted to make money. The entire Agent of Asgard storyline covers three graphic novel collections. I really enjoyed the entire story arc of these three books. There was actually a lot of exploring an old character in a new way while remaining true to the character's concept. This is the third, and last, part where we get the big battle and the resolution to the story arc. But when one story ends, another begins. Aug 08, Derek Newman-Stille rated it it was amazing Shelves: comics-non-canadian. Loki's adventure to rewrite his own history continues in Vol 3: Last Days. This collection explores the origins of storytelling and reshapes Loki from the God of Lies into the God of Storytelling, illustrating that there is truth in every story, even the ones that are outright fiction. This collection explores the way that reputations tend to linger, shaping someone's narrative and Loki can't seem to escape from his reputation as a villain and as a liar. Everyone assumes that his identity is ide Loki's adventure to rewrite his own history continues in Vol 3: Last Days. Everyone assumes that his identity is identical to what it always has been and that he is incapable of change. Yet, Loki is a manifestation of change. He is a god of changeability and transformation, able to take different forms for different purposes. In this collection Loki has to face the narrative that he has created in his past and the Loki he could become in the future. He has to change his own story, preventing it from changing who he is. Jan 12, Marie rated it really liked it. Truth: I got a little lost at places in this. Once again, there were pages where every panel had a reference to some other comic. Add to that time travel, asides, and flashes back and forward If you wanted a story complicated enough for Loki, you got it. That said, the ending really pays off. Not to give anything away, but Loki, we find, is the sort of guy who re-writes reality in production with no backups. This comic got three stars just from the splash pages of Odin and Freya, resp Truth: I got a little lost at places in this. This comic got three stars just from the splash pages of Odin and Freya, respectively, going into battle, and I adore this portrayal of Freya!! My one wish would have been for more of a slow burn to the story arc, maybe a few less cuts to keep us focused. Though perhaps this would not have been a problem if I were reading the comics as they came out and had to wait between issues. Jan 01, Jera Em rated it it was amazing Shelves: wishlist , favorites , graphic-novels-manga. I really loved this series for Loki. The way it tackles the idea of a trickster god is one that makes a lot of sense to me. It's about the stories, about being something "unusual. I also really loved Loki's friendship with Verity and I hope to see more of that in other books. She was a fantastic character in her own right and I I really loved this series for Loki. She was a fantastic character in her own right and I thought they really struck a good balance there. I could easily see her identifying as ace. The only real problem with this compilation is that some of the story takes place in other graphic novels, a trend with Western comics that drives me crazy if I'm honest. Even so, this is well worth the read. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. Readers also enjoyed. Graphic Novels Comics. About Al Ewing. Al Ewing. Other books in the series.
