Can- Dom- tate ino Choir School News A Newsletter for Alumni & Friends of Saint Thomas Choir School SUMMER/FALL 2017 SUMMER/FALL The Class of 2017 FROM THE HEADMASTER’ S DESK After fourteen years at Saint Thomas, I’ve become eligible for my first-ever sabbatical, a six-month period beginning on July 1, 2017. During my absence, Amy Francisco, our seasoned English teacher, will expand her responsibilities to serve as Acting Head of School. As the newsletter goes to press, I’m making final preparations for this exciting opportunity and passing the reins into Ms. Francisco’s capable hands. My time away will be divided between two spots rather unlike West 58th Street: Morocco and Marseille. I’ll be working in parishes with significant ministries to refugees, and the focus of my daily life and work will shift markedly from my “day job.” Rather than addressing the educational needs of young people, I’ll be helping persons from different creeds and cultures who seek a better life for themselves and their families, often against great adversity. As stimulating as these challenges will be, I shall miss the rhythm of our common life at Saint Thomas. Happily, time apart is beneficial: it reminds us of our many blessings and our capacity to build meaningful relationships in new contexts. I look forward to returning to Saint Thomas in January 2018 with fresh perspectives – and stories to share. You are always in my thoughts and prayers. –Charles F. Wallace, Headmaster GRADUATION The ninety-eighth commencement exercises of the Choir School were held on June 10. -

JournoList: Isolated case or the tip of the iceberg? - CSMonitor.com Page 1 of 2 JournoList: Isolated case or the tip of the iceberg? Some of the liberal reporters in the JournoList online discussion group suggested that political biases should shape news coverage. Is the principle of journalistic impartiality disappearing? A screen shot of 'The Daily Caller' website on Thursday, which has published more of the 'Journolist' entries on the state of journalism today. By Patrik Jonsson, Staff writer posted July 22, 2010 at 9:30 am EDT Atlanta — Reporters fantasizing about ramming conservatives through plate glass windows or gleefully watching Rush Limbaugh perish: Welcome to the wild and wooly new world of journalism courtesy of the JournoList. A conservative website, the Daily Caller, has begun publishing some of the 25,000 entries by 400 left-leaning journalists who were a part of the online community known as JournoList. In these entries, reporters and media types debate the news of the day, often in intemperate and unguarded terms – like now-former Washington Post reporter David Weigel's suggestion that conservative webmeister Matt Drudge "set himself on fire." Another suggested that members of the group label some Barack Obama as critics racists in their reporting. It is possible, perhaps probable, that the fedora-coiffed journalists of old might have entertained similar thoughts about political characters of the day. But JournoList raises the question of how thoroughly the tone and character of the no-holds-barred blogosphere are reshaping the mainstream media. While it is not clear that the JournoList exchanges influenced coverage, they parroted the snarky language of the blogosphere as well as its pandering to political biases – in some cases, suggesting that those biases should be reflected in news coverage. -

1 the Complete Obama Timeline February 2016 on February 1
The Complete Obama Timeline February 2016 On February 1, 2016 more than $100 billion in assets is released to Iran. (The White House had claimed it would be only $50 billion. One or both of the two parties is lying.) [87369, 87380, 87381, 87405] The Sun reports that Great Britain “is home to more than 3 million Muslims for the first time ever with more than half born outside the UK, according to new figures. Soaring immigration and sky high birth rates have seen the number in the country double in a little over a decade. Some parts of London are now almost 50 per cent Islamic, according to analysis from the Office for National Statistics. If current trends continue the areas could become majority Muslim within ten years. …Followers of Islam now make up one in every 20 people within the country.” (The process is “birth jihad” or “stealth jihad.” Muslims take over an area first via immigration, both legal and illegal, and they then dominate the culture as a result of their phenomenal birth rates— all the while collecting welfare benefits funded by taxpayers who fear being shamed as “Islamophobes” if they object. Parts of Europe are being destroyed in the process.) [87371, 87372] Workers at a refugee center in Sweden are banned from holding a memorial service for co- worker Alexandra Mezher, who was killed by a migrant, in order to “secure the well-being of the children.” (Translation: “We do not want to upset the Muslim refugees or let them think killing Swedes is not an acceptable pastime.”) [87427, 87429] CNN reports that leftist billionaire George Soros has donated $6 million to Hillary Clinton’s political action committee (PAC). -

LEGISLATOR US Senator JOHNNY ISAKSON (R-GA) IN OFFICE CONTACT Up for re-election in 2016 Email Contact Form http://www.isakson.senate.gov/ 2nd Term public/index.cfm/email-me Re-elected in 2010 Web www.isakson.senate.gov/public SENIORITY RANK http://www.isakson.senate.gov/ 33 public Out of 100 Twitter @SenatorIsakson https://twitter.com/ SenatorIsakson DC 131 Russell Senate Office Office Building BGOV BIOGRAPHY By Eun Kim for Bloomberg News Johnny Isakson began his congressional career by assuming the seat vacated by Republican icon Newt Gingrich. Even so, the senior U.S. senator from Georgia continues to get his conservative bona fides questioned despite consistent support by fellow Republican office holders and his rise in the GOP ranks in the Senate. In the 114th Congress, he assumed the chairmanship of the Veterans Affairs Committee, and his committee portfolio also included seats on the Finance, Foreign Relations, and Health, Education, Labor and Pensions panels. He also retained his membership on the Ethics panel, where service helps a senator build a reputation as a team player. When he announced plans to launch his 2016 re-election campaign -- in November 2014 -- Isakson flanked himself with Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and other top party leaders from the state, which may provide some inoculation from critics such as the small-government, low-taxes Club for Growth and the Eagle Forum, which supports “conservative and pro- family men and women.” “I’m a known commodity in this state,” he declared at a news conference describing why he deserved a third term. “All you’ve got to do is Google my name and you can find out everything I’ve ever done -- and everything I haven’t ever done.” Just around the same time, the Conservative Review gave Isakson a failing 46 percent “liberty score.” The group also placed Isakson on its 2016 primary “hit list” of lawmakers it viewed as moderate. -

Lance Bennett, Chair Matthew J. Powers Kirsten A. Foot Adrienne Russell Program Authorized to Offer Degree: Communication University of Washington Abstract The Political Logic of the Radical Right Media Sphere in the United States Yunkang Yang Chair of the Supervisory Committee: W. Lance Bennett Department of Communication Democracy in America is threatened by an increased level of false information circulating through online media networks. Previous research has found that radical right media such as Fox News and Breitbart are the principal incubators and distributors of online disinformation. In this dissertation, I draw attention to their political mobilizing logic and propose a new theoretical framework to analyze major radical right media in the U.S. Contrasted with the old partisan media literature that regarded radical right media as partisan news organizations, I argue that media outlets such as Fox News and Breitbart are better understood as hybrid network organizations. This means that many radical right media can function as partisan journalism producers, disinformation distributors, and in many cases political organizations at the same time. They not only provide partisan news reporting but also engage in a variety of political activities such as spreading disinformation, conducting opposition research, contacting voters, and campaigning and fundraising for politicians. In addition, many radical right media are also capable of forming emerging political organization networks that can mobilize resources, coordinate actions, and pursue tangible political goals at strategic moments in response to the changing political environment. -
