Selection of the system

A. Fixed Grip Gondola system is ruled out because Boarding / de-boarding needs to be carried out when the system is on. This would lead to serious problem particularly in the case of elderly persons and children.

B. Jig Back system is ruled out because the length of the ropeway is too long. C. Detachable Grip Gondola system is ruled out because of the following reasons: a. Capacity is too low for this type of system b. Cost will be higher c. More space is required. d. Stoppage at Intermediate terminal will not be possible

D. Fixed Grip Circulating Gondola system is felt in order because of the following reasons:

System Operation

In this type of ropeway, an endless hauling rope is fixed between two terminal sheaves at lower and upper station. Cabins are permanently attached to the hauling rope at equal intervals in such a way that while one cabin is at one station the other station also has one cabin at the same position in the station. Here there will be 20 nos. cabins for the entire length of the rope.

C/3, 241, Sector 3, Chiratkoot Scheme, Vaishali, Jaipur, Rajasthan-302011 Mob. 94140-07197 Email: [email protected] ______Journey from one station to the other will have four intermittent stops, each for 24 seconds (for boarding/de-boarding) in between, Passengers will board a stationery cabin at one station. After the allowed boarding de-boarding time the cabin will start moving, accelerating up to the travel speed and then will continue to move at uniform speed. When the fifth cabin ahead of this cabin approaches the other station, the ropeway will start decelerating and come to a halt when the fifth cabin ahead is at the other station. Passenger will then board/de board the cabin while it is stationery at the other station. This cycle will continue and all the cabins will stop at both the station at pre determined time interval.

Along the line the rope will be supported on line sheaves fitted on mount beams. Mount beams both with positive or negative loads will be supported on trestles. Mount beams will have rope de- ropement sensing switches to sense and stop the ropeway in case of de-ropement and indication will come on panel at drive station.

Drive of the ropeway will be located at upper station. Drive gears will sequentially consist of Main Moor, Brake Drum Type Coupling 20

The large dia. return sheave is fitted on a tension trolley. Through tension sheaves weight is suspended to apply the tension.

Ropeway travel basically consists of

ƒ Stopping of the system at station. ƒ De boarding ƒ Slow speed movement at station around bull wheel ƒ Boarding ƒ Uniform acceleration ƒ Uniform travel by fixed speed of the system (here it is 0 – 3.0 m/sec) ƒ Uniform de acceleration ƒ Uniform movement before station entry ƒ Stop again 21

In order to minimize the possibility that an evacuation will be required, certain features should be provided, including a back-up diesel power unit which can move the system in the event of a loss of power or failure of the main drive system. As a further measure, a ring gear drive mounted directly to the bull wheel should be provided in the event the main gearbox fails. With these provisions, the possibility that the cabins become stranded mid-span is very remote. As the perceived tower height has been chosen low, a manual rescue system, which enables lowering of stranded passengers by ladder, will suffice for this ropeway.

Estimate of Operating Revenues

To estimate the commercial viability of the Project, sources of revenue for the Project have been identified and the revenue thereof for each component of the Project facility has been estimated.

Sources of Revenue

Based on the feedback obtained during the market study, from the potential users of the Project facilities, typical sources of revenue could be Ticket fares from users of the ropeway for both side ropeway ride.

Based on the market study results and feedback from the local tourist officials about 20- 25 % of the tourists visiting Jodhpur will use the proposed ropeway system from the first year of operations. This would be 1.2 Lacs tourists per year approximately. With passage of time the hill top will develop as a firm site for every visitor.

It can be seen that the project shows negative cash flow and loss after 10 years of operation.

Considering the financial viability of the project, to & fro ticket fare of Rs 150 has been considered per person per round trip for passenger ropeway.

It is estimated that the proposed ropeway system will gain more popularity over a period of time and a minimum tourist growth of

The proposed tariff per person per round is for the current year and the base year for increase in the tariff is 2017(current year). Tariff for foreign tourist would be five times of tariff charged by Indian tourists\pilgrims. The estimated revenues for the Project for the first 10 years of operation (including the period of construction) considering the various traffic volume options is indicated. It can be seen that after 10 years of operation including construction period shows negative cash flow and loss after considering repayment of loan with interest in 10 years including the construction period.

Revenue for ropeway are on the basis of 5% traffic inflation and 10 % rise in ropeway tariff annually.
