Additionally, it looked at future trends in service and volunteerism, philanthropic giving, alumni participation, and community involvement as a result of participation in the Pay It Forward: Student-led Philanthropy Initiative. The study employed quantitative research methods, specifically survey design (prepared in collaboration with the Sillerman Center for the Advancement of Philanthropy at Brandeis University and the National Campus Compact Office. Descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, and t-tests were the analyses used. This project is funded through a Learn and Serve Grant via Kentucky Campus Compact with additional funding provided by Morehead State University’s Center for Regional Engagement. Paired sample t-test for the pre and post test questions found five items in the two sets of class data that were statistically significant indicating attitudes toward philanthropic activites had changed over the course of the semester.

THE TRI-STATE SKYLARK STRUTTER Member of South Jersey Cultural Alliance and Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance Member of American Federation of Jazz Societies and Jersey Arts VOLUME 18 NUMBER 6 March 2008 ********************************************************************************************************************************* T OUR NEXT CONCERT DUPONT COUNTRY CLUB SUNDAY, MARCH 16 1001 Rockland Road Wilmington, Delaware 19803 2 PM TO 5:30 PM Dan Levinson formed the Palomar Quartet to celebrate the THE PALOMAR QUARTET birthplace of Swing in the Palomar Ballroom in Los Angeles. The quartet is similar to the Benny Goodman Quartet with Lionel WITH MOLLY RYAN Hampton, Teddy Wilson, Gene Krupa, and various singers. We have an equal or even better group today with Dan on reeds (mostly clarinet), unbeatable Mark Shane on the ivories (which is one reason why we are at the DuPont Country Club), popular Kevin Dorn keeping time and taking great solos on the drum set, and young North Jersey virtuoso, Matt Hoffman on the vibraphone. Molly Ryan will give great renditions in her own unique style of the big band singers of the 1030 to 1970 period. Last year you may remember that Dan proposed to Molly on the pulpit level at St. Andrew’s Methodist church. We were honored. Q AND A WITH DAN LEVINSON TSSS Please tell us about your early years. DL First I possess no musical talent but an incredible focus, determination, and inspiration. Born July 5, 1965 in Brentwood, Los Angeles, CA, I lived with my mother from age 8 on. While the family had no musicians, I tried piano and guitar. I was a straight- A student in public school and went to private Windward School at age 13 for special attention.

low-pitched instruments. For this reason, most Bach oratorios are today performed on a high D trumpet, and January-February, 1950 extremely difficult compositions, like the "Christmas Oratorio," the Bach "B Minor Mass," etc., are generally played on the piccolo trumpet in High F, or piccolo trumpet in High G, or the piccolo trumpet in High Bb. Do You Know Your It is a recognized fact that composers do not always write the trumpet part in the proper pitch (favoring the Brasses? open tones of an instrument as the old masters did to facilitate the execution of the part or to produce the right tone quality); instead they sometimes follow the road of convenience by just writing the trumpet part in the key in which the composition is written, taking it for granted that a trumpet player knows how to transpose and will Expert describes models and their special uses in select the right kind of an instrument, as he sees fit. Other modern symphony orchestra and band take it for granted that every player uses a Bb trumpet (which is predominantly used in Germany and Russia), while other composers who lived in France or Austria VINCENT BACH where C trumpets arc mostly used have written most of their trumpet parts in C. The instruments are described as follows, with notations on how they are used by our leading symphony THE WORK of a modern symphony or opera orchestra artists. trumpeter is highly exacting.
