Even when resource rich regions such as Campeche or Tabasco are excluded, regional economic disparities in Mexico remain larger than in any other OECD country. However, regional disparities in terms of GDP per capita have slightly decreased in Mexico over the last sixteen years, when the richest and poorest 20% of regions are taken into account. With a productivity growth of 4.4% per year over the period 2010-16, Aguascalientes had the highest productivity growth and strongly converged towards the productivity level of Mexico City, the national frontier in terms of labour productivity (excluding Campeche). Tlaxcala recorded the lowest productivity growth of the country with -1% per year between 2010 and 2016 (excluding Campeche and Tabasco due to fluctuation of natural resource prices).

With a population of 105 million, Mexico is the 11th most populous country and the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world. The nation’s capital, Mexico City, is the second largest city in the world. Mexico is composed by 31 states congregated in a federal representative democratic republic. The constitution establishes three levels of government: federal, state, and municipal. The federal government is constituted by the Legislative branch, composed by the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, the Executive branch, headed by the President who is elected for a single term every six years by a direct national election and is also commander in chief of the military forces, and the Judicial branch, comprised by the Supreme Court.1 Recent Political and Economic Situation The economic policy from 1920 until the end of the 1980’s was based on a centralized economy driven by strong government intervention. During the 1950´s postwar years, Mexico pursued an economic development strategy of “stabilizing development” that relied on heavy public-sector investment to modernize the national economy. Concurrently, Mexican governments followed conservative policies on controlled interest and exchange rates that helped maintain low rates of inflation and attracted external capital to support industrialization.

Material and methods: A multistage sample was taken, randomly selecting a medical center of six, and 100 of 420 selected medical center users. Respondents were chosen by convenience, gathering different variables: sociode- mographic, anthropometric, lifestyle, chronic degenerative diseases, and low back pain, by personal interviews and review of medical records. Descriptive statistics and odds ratio (p≤0.05) were estimated. Results: Prevalence of low back pain was observed in 63% beneficiaries. A significant association with occupation, age, sex, obesity, unhealthy habits and chronic degenerative diseases was found, concluding that the prevalence is high, and that risk factors identified in other areas are not applicable to this population. The nineteenth century, usually censured as embarrassingly stagnant, seemingly stands alone as a century of slow growth with few significant demographic developments.i Yet, while Mexico's caudillos and constitutionalists fought to rule the nation or defend against foreign attack, the peopling of Mexico advanced at a lively pace in the 19th century and, unlike other more rapidly growing countries in the Americas, grew solely by means of native stocks. Preclassic ceramics at four of these, in addition to Palenque, are considered. The Middle Preclassic is well represented at all sites, a primary subdivision being the appearance of waxy wares. The non-waxy to waxy shift, recalling Xe-Mamom relationships, is more pronounced than changes marking the Middle to Late Preclassic transition. Initial Middle Preclassic similarities tend to be stronger outside the Maya Lowlands than with other Lowland Maya sites, and a few ceramics also have non-Maya Early Preclassic correspondences.     Alejandro Olivera Center for Biological Diversity, April 2018 Executive summary exico is one of the world’s most biologically rich nations, with diverse landscapes that are home to a treasure trove of wildlife, including plant and animal species found nowhere else. Sadly, in Mexico and Maround the world, species are becoming extinct because of human activities at rates never seen before. In this report we highlight the threats facing Mexico’s 10 most iconic endangered species to help illustrate the broader risks confronting the country’s imperiled plants and animals. These 10 species — which in most cases are protected only on paper — were chosen to reflect Mexico’s diversity of wildlife and ecosystems and the wide range of threats to the country’s biodiversity. New awareness of these unique animals and plants is critical to inspiring a nationwide demand to protect these critical components of Mexico’s natural heritage. Although the Mexican government began officially listing and protecting species as extinct, threatened, endangered, and “under special protection” in 1994 — more than 20 years ago — few species have actually recovered, and many critical threats continue unabated. In many cases, officials are failing to enforce crucial laws and regulations that would protect these species. Additionally, the Mexican government has not updated its official list of imperiled species, referred to as NOM059, since 2010, despite new and growing risks from climate change, habitat destruction, the wildlife trade and in some cases direct killing.
