How to Find Us ARCHAEOLOGICAL SCIENCES ARCHAEOLOGY AND HISTORY DAY SCHOOLS How to Find Us Event Venue The Day Schools are held in the University’s Phoenix SW Building. Visitors should follow the signs to the side entrance (fully accessible), located up the drive that runs between the Phoenix SW building and the Theatre in the Mill. The University’s campus contains many steps and cobbled surfaces, so visitors with limited mobility or other special requirements may wish to contact the Day Schools staff beforehand for advice on the most accessible routes to the venue. How to Get to Bradford By Rail Bradford Interchange and Forster Square stations have extensive rail links and are located in the city centre. Both stations are within walking distance of the University and have taxi ranks. Information about trains to Bradford can be found at www.nationalrail.co.uk and http://www.wymetro.com/TrainTravel. By Bus Buses 610, 613 and 614 leave from Market Street (between the Interchange and Forster Square rail stations) at regular intervals during the day. These services pass the main campus (Great Horton Road stop) within about five minutes. For more adventurous visitors, the Bradford Free City Bus leaves from both the Interchange and Forster Square stations and takes approximately 20 minutes to arrive at the University. Please note that the Free City Bus does not always run to its timetable and often fills up quickly, so visitors are not advised to rely on this service if they are running short of time. More information about bus services in Bradford can be found at http://www.wymetro.com/BusTravel/bustimetables. By Coach Coach services connect most parts of the country to the Interchange. Please visit http://www.nationalexpress.com for more information about coaches to Bradford. By Road Bradford is connected to the national motorway network via the M62 and the M606. The best routes into Bradford are: From the south, east or west of Bradford – M62 and M606. From the north-west of Bradford – A629/A650 via Skipton and Keighley. From the north-east – A1 or A19, and reach Bradford via the A59 and then the A658 south of Harrogate. For sat nav users, the University’s postcode is BD7 1DP. Walking to the University from the City Centre Walking from either of Bradford’s stations takes approximately 15-20 minutes. Parts of the journey are uphill. From the Interchange, exit from the lower level of the station and walk down the hill toward City Hall. Continue on through the crossing and turn left when you reach Centenary Square (in front of City Hall). From Forster Square, exit to Cheapside by walking past the ticket office and up the cobbled pedestrian lane toward the Midland Hotel (past the statues and up the hill). Exit the cobbled lane onto Cheapside and cross the road. Walk down the hill and turn right onto Market Street. Continue straight on Market Street until you reach Centenary Square (City Hall). Walk through Centenary Square past the mirror pool. Cross the ring road; you will now be in front of the Alhambra Theatre and the old Odeon cinema (undergoing renovation). Continue up the partially-pedestrianised lane to the right of the Alhambra, past the Sir Titus Salt Wetherspoons (in the old bathhouse). When the lane ends at Great Horton Road, turn right and continue up the hill to the University, which is located just beyond the College on the right side of the street. The Phoenix SW Building is located on the far side of campus. Car Parking There is unrestricted car parking at the University on Saturdays. To pass through the barriers, please use the push- button intercom to tell Security staff that you are attending the Day School. A map of the car parks on campus can be found at http://www.brad.ac.uk/contact-and-find-us/visitor-travel/visitor-parking/. The closest spaces to the Phoenix SW Building are in the Shearbridge car park, located off Great Horton Road (accessed through the Unique Fitness Centre car park). To reach the Day Schools venue from this car park, walk down the flight of steps towards the brook. Walk around the right side of the Phoenix SW building up the drive and enter the building via the steps or the ramp. There are also spaces in the car parks off Longside Lane, which can be accessed from Shearbridge Road. To reach the Day Schools venue from these car parks, walk back along Longside Lane and turn left onto Shearbridge Road. Then turn left down the drive marked ‘Phoenix Building’ (directly across from the Bombay Stores) and enter the building via the ramp on your right. Alternatively, visitors can exit the Longside Lane car parks at near the Student Central Building. Walk along the path to right of the Student Central Building (near the bike cage) and go down the steps. Walk past the Phoenix NE/Estates Building and turn right at the brook. Finally, turn right again at the Theatre in the Mill. The entrance to the building will be on your left at the top of the stairs/ramp. Cancellation In certain circumstances (e.g. low enrolment) the University reserves the right to cancel the Day School. If we have to cancel the event, the University’s liability will be restricted to refund of fees. If you wish to cancel your booking, please contact us as soon as possible on (01274) 233547 or by email at [email protected]. For cancellations received up to a week before the event, a credit note will be issued. No refunds will be made for cancellations received less than a week before the event or for non-attendance on the day. .

It was very much apparent that for a significant length of time the region has not attracted its fair share of national funding and in my opinion has not had the impetus, drive or ambition to deliver the improvements like we see now happening over the pennines in Greater Manchester for example. I would conjecture that without a 21st century transport network of quality rail, road and air connections then we will as a city and a region always be at a disadvantage to other regions that are better connected.

SECTION 17 PROPOSEDTRACK ACCESS CONTRACT: (ALLIANCE RAIL HOLDINGS - GREAT NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY) I write in response to the above mentioned consultation. Metro has had constructive dialogue with Alliance Rail in the recent past on its GNER proposal, including for investment in station facilities/a new strategic park and ride rail facility in the east of Leeds rail corridor. Metro is in principle supportive of the Alliance Rail proposal to run direct services between Bradford Forster Square/Ilkley and London, however is not in a position to support the specific proposal at this time, due to a number of questions we have, and a particular timing issue as outlined below. • The Leeds City Region Transport Strategy highlights the need for improved connectivity between the City Region and London to support the economic future of our region. As a major and growing city, Bradford has relatively poor connectivity with London when compared to other cities of equivalent size. Indeed the emerging evidence from the work of the East Coast Main Line (ECML) Authorities grouping, of which Metro is part, suggests that of all the “off-route” destinations served by Long Distance High Speed (LDHS) services, improving connectivity between Bradford and London would deliver a very high level of economic benefit to UK Plc. • Metro is also currently the promoter of 3 new stations in West Yorkshire, including at Kirkstall Forge, which is a major brownfield land regeneration site in the City of Leeds.

    Illustrative Option schemes in CP5 HLOS The Department worked with Network Rail, the train operators and the transport authorities in the major cities to build up shared information on current rail usage. As far as practicable a shared view was also agreed on forecast demand, using standard rail industry models but adjusting these where there was evidence of likely stronger growth. This forecast growth is stated as a peak demand to be met in the HLOS. The forecast growth was assessed against current plans for train service provision in 2019. Illustrative train service enhancements that provided the capacity to meet this demand were identified and modelled for the morning peak services in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds. In many cases these were directly based on the work undertaken by recent rail industry Route Utilisation Strategies (RUS). In some cases, notably in Leeds and Manchester, recent Government commitments to funding electrification and capacity enhancements had happened after the RUS and so the Department worked with key stakeholders to determine the most likely train service patterns the infrastructure changes might produce. The illustrative peak train services are not what will happen; that will be guided both by the rail industry’s response to the HLOS in the Strategic Business Plan for CP5 where the industry will set out how it proposes to meet the HLOS, and by the outcome of future train operator franchise competitions. But the illustrative train services are needed for the Department to confirm that a value for money solution can be provided to meet peak demand. It is likely the rail industry will produce a more detailed and efficient solution, and in this context the illustrative option can be viewed as the simple answer that should be bettered.

    Dear Sirs, Bradford Local Plan Reg 18 Consultation 2021 We broadly support the points made by Andrew Wood of CPRE West Yorkshire, but make the following additional points. POLICY CONFLICT Concerning the sites selected for development in Ilkley there is a direct conflict with the policies, for example:- protecting the green belt minimising travel to work providing adequate infrastructure creating the South Pennines Regional Park maximising the benefit of YWCA funds to support brownfield development all of the changes arising from the Leeds City Region and Transport for the North. No account has been paid to the Planning White Paper which specifically protects green belt and conservation areas. GREEN BELT We have been repeatedly reassured that Green Belt is safeguarded against development by government ministers in person, through the national press and television. A great deal of emphasis is being placed on ‘weak boundaries’ to green belt. This term is meaningless and barely relevant. The boundaries are not weak. They have lasted for several decades. Using up the two indicated areas of green belt in Ben Rhydding does not in any way safeguard or make stronger the adjacent areas. It reduces the greenbelt between Burley in Wharfedale and Ben Rhydding. Describing the boundaries as weak appears to mean that the council wants to develop the sites they enclose. Describing boundaries as less durable is equally specious; they have lasted for at least 25 years and there is no case to change them. The intention of green belt is that it remains in perpetuity. Green belt is not necessarily of high landscape value.
