Introduction: Honour Violence, Law and Power in Upper Sindh
Introduction HONOUR VIOLENCE, LAW AND POWER IN UPPER SINDH n The story that I am to narrate here begins in the 1990s, when as a reporter in a local magazine called Newsline, I wrote a comprehensive news story on karo kari,1 (literally ‘black man and black woman’), a vernacular honour- based practice in the Upper Sindh region of present-day Pakistan. Known popularly as a rasam, a ‘custom’ that sanctioned men and women accused of sexual transgressions with death,2 karo kari has since become a leading story of the national media in Pakistan, a major human rights issue and a problem that both lawmakers and civil society are concerned about. My report was the first comprehensive exposé of the existence and preva- lence of this practice in the region of Upper Sindh.3 This report disclosed the violence committed through karo kari, whose perpetrators were defend- ing what was considered a timeless, natural and therefore unquestionable ideology of honour called ghairat, a moral sanction enforced by each indi- vidual, and more specifically each man, but with social approval. In the report, I described the punishment of ‘black’ men and women as retributive justice for men whose honour had been damaged when a female relative was accused of engaging in sexual relations with another man. Husbands, fathers, brothers and sons could accuse their wives, daughters, sisters or mothers of being black, and the action taken against women could be either expulsion from the community or death. If found with the woman, the co- accused man could be killed or subsequently hunted down. -

Social Transformation of Pakistan Under Urdu Language
Social Transformations in Contemporary Society, 2021 (9) ISSN 2345-0126 (online) SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION OF PAKISTAN UNDER URDU LANGUAGE Dr. Sohaib Mukhtar Bahria University, Pakistan [email protected] Abstract Urdu is the national language of Pakistan under article 251 of the Constitution of Pakistan 1973. Urdu language is the first brick upon which whole building of Pakistan is built. In pronunciation both Hindi in India and Urdu in Pakistan are same but in script Indian choose their religious writing style Sanskrit also called Devanagari as Muslims of Pakistan choose Arabic script for writing Urdu language. Urdu language is based on two nation theory which is the basis of the creation of Pakistan. There are two nations in Indian Sub-continent (i) Hindu, and (ii) Muslims therefore Muslims of Indian sub- continent chanted for separate Muslim Land Pakistan in Indian sub-continent thus struggled for achieving separate homeland Pakistan where Muslims can freely practice their religious duties which is not possible in a country where non-Muslims are in majority thus Urdu which is derived from Arabic, Persian, and Turkish declared the national language of Pakistan as official language is still English thus steps are required to be taken at Government level to make Urdu as official language of Pakistan. There are various local languages of Pakistan mainly: Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashto, Balochi, Kashmiri, Balti and it is fundamental right of all citizens of Pakistan under article 28 of the Constitution of Pakistan 1973 to protect, preserve, and promote their local languages and local culture but the national language of Pakistan is Urdu according to article 251 of the Constitution of Pakistan 1973. -

Executive Summary Information available on Sindhi websites, in press reports and in academic studies suggests that, generally speaking, the Sindhi community in Maharashtra state are not ill-treated. Most writers who address the situation of Sindhis in Maharashtra generally concern themselves with the social and commercial success which the Sindhis have achieved in Mumbai (where the greater part of the Sindh’s Hindu populace relocated after the partition of India and Pakistan). One news article was located which reported that the Sindhi community had been targeted for extortion, along with other “mercantile communities”, by criminal networks affiliated with Maharashtra state’s Sihiv Sena organisation. -

The four names of great men from Sindh that he gave, included three former students of Sindh Madressah. Today, in 21st century, it gives pleasure that Sindh Madressah has kept alive that tradition of producing great men to serve the humanity. -

Honour Killing in Sindh Men's and Women's Divergent Accounts Shahnaz Begum Laghari PhD University of York Women’s Studies March 2016 Abstract The aim of this project is to investigate the phenomenon of honour-related violence, the most extreme form of which is honour killing. The research was conducted in Sindh (one of the four provinces of Pakistan). The main research question is, ‘Are these killings for honour?’ This study was inspired by a need to investigate whether the practice of honour killing in Sindh is still guided by the norm of honour or whether other elements have come to the fore. It is comprised of the experiences of those involved in honour killings through informal, semi- structured, open-ended, in-depth interviews, conducted under the framework of the qualitative method. The aim of my thesis is to apply a feminist perspective in interpreting the data to explore the tradition of honour killing and to let the versions of the affected people be heard. In my research, the women who are accused as karis, having very little redress, are uncertain about their lives; they speak and reveal the motives behind the allegations and killings in the name of honour. The male killers, whom I met inside and outside the jails, justify their act of killing in the name of honour, culture, tradition and religion. Drawing upon interviews with thirteen women and thirteen men, I explore and interpret the data to reveal their childhood, educational, financial and social conditions and the impacts of these on their lives, thoughts and actions. -

Political Background behind Migration of Sindhi Community and their Participation in Independence of India: an Exclusive Insight Dr. Manju Lalwani Pathak, Department of Economics, Smt. C.H.M. College, Ulhasnagar, University of Mumbai, Maharashtra. ABSTRACT: Sindhis are the linguistic minority of Indo-Aryan group in free India. Every minority study has dominant by political resonance. Sindhis too have this kind of concern; hence this research article is grounded on the past political aspects of Sindhi community. Sindhis are known as migrant community and labeled refugee after partition of India while this community belong to the oldest civilization of the world. One should ask why Sindhis left their motherland; settled in new places of free India and were called refugees? Present research paper unfolds the exclusive and resilience insights behind the platform constructed by political fundamentalists for Sindhis migration. This article also provides the new paradigm regarding active part taken by Sindhis in the struggle for independence of India and substantiated through several incidents. Finally, paper discusses some an answered question and other possible options behind the migration of Sindhis. INTRODUCTION: Every minority study has dominant by political resonance, almost all study have affected by the political affairs of the surroundings. Sindhis too have this kind of concern. Sindh was the origin state of Sindhi community. In Sindh Muslim were in majority and Hindu (all Hindus were Sindhis) were in minority. Power politics forced them to migrate from Sindh to other parts of free India because entire Sindh was given to Muslim Community to form their new country due to Muslim majority.
