The event, featuring a spectacular display of celebrity holiday trees by well known designers, is currently underway at the Hard Rock Palm Springs until Friday, Dec. 4, when a live auction party will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. Actress Ruta Lee, a Palm Springs resident and long-time supporter of ACT for MS will host with the help of CBS Local 2’s Patrick Evans leading the live auction. Holiday trees will be up for auction from well known local celebrities including Lee, Carol Channing, Fred (The Hammer) Williamson, Bella da Ball and many more. Gray’s spectacular holiday tree, dubbed “Christmas at Southfork,” will have a western theme, inspired by her long-running CBS television series “Dallas.” In addition, a Holiday Boutique featuring mini-trees and wreaths will open in advance of the live auction at 4 p.m.. All proceeds go to ACT for MS. The fundraiser, founded by the late Palm Springs entertainment and society journalist Gloria Greer in partnership with Merv Griffin, has become a much loved signature holiday event in the city. “With excitement echoing around the world about the new Hard Rock Palm Springs and the city it is located, we are thrilled Christmas Tree Lane will return to Palm Springs for a second year,” said event chairwoman Linda Williamson. In fact, Williamson notes Christmas Tree Lane has been a desert holiday tradition since Griffin first asked his celebrity friends to allow top designers to create Christmas trees themed after them at his Merv Griffin Hotel, now the Parker Palm Springs, and later sold them at live auction with the proceeds benefitting ACT for MS. “The City of Palm Springs and the Hard Rock Hotel are thrilled to host Christmas Tree Lane in support of ACT for MS,” said Mary Jo Ginther, Director of the Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism. “I encourage everyone in the Coachella Valley and beyond to visit downtown Palm Springs over the next week and check out these one-of-a-kind designer trees – and perhaps even take one home.” VIP tickets are $100, premiere seating is $75 and regular seating is $50. Dallas is a long-running American prime time television soap opera that aired from April 2, 1978, to May 3, 1991, on CBS. The series revolves around a wealthy and feuding Texan family, the Ewings, who own the independent oil company Ewing Oil and the cattle-ranching land of Southfork. The series originally focused on the marriage of Bobby Ewing and Pamela Barnes, whose families were sworn enemies with each other. As the series progressed, oil tycoon J.R. Ewing grew to be the show's main character, whose schemes and dirty business became the show's trademark.[1] When the show ended in May 1991, J.R. was the only character to have appeared in every episode. The show was famous for its cliffhangers, including the Who shot J.R.? mystery. The 1980 episode Who Done It remains the second highest rated prime-time telecast ever.[2] The show also featured a "Dream Season", in which the entirety of the ninth season was revealed to have been a dream of Pam Ewing's. Von robert zwarg Intrigen, Sex, Macht und Geld: Die US-amerikanische Achtziger-Jahre-Serie »Dallas« wird weitergeführt. Auch in der Neuauflage geht es um die Verderbtheit der Oberklasse. Es gehört zum Common Sense des kapitalistischen Alltagsbewusstseins, dass diejenigen, denen ein größerer Teil des Reichtums, der »ungeheuren Warensammlung« (Karl Marx), vergönnt ist, Ungeheuer sein müssen. Weil der gesamte Alltag darauf beruht, aus Geld mehr Geld zu machen, ist das Verhältnis zum Reichtum im strengen Sinne ambivalent. Zwei gegensätzliche Gefühle rumoren im Inneren des Subjekts: die Verlockungen von Luxus und Müßiggang und das Ressentiment gegen ihre Repräsentanten. Und so spiegelt es die Kulturindustrie den Konsumenten zurück: Zahlreiche Fernsehformate widmen sich dem Leben der »Superreichen«. Allerdings gibt es kaum einen Wohlhabenden in Film und Fernsehen, der nicht moralisch verdorben und skrupellos ist – außer, freilich, er ist Philanthrop. J. R. Ewing ist ein solcher Bösewicht. Als die Serie »Dallas« 1978 startete, gab es nur wenige Darstellungen von Reichtum und Luxus im amerikanischen Fernsehen. Es dominierten das Kleinbürgertum der Mittelklasse, das Arbeitermilieu oder das ländliche Amerika. Nicht nur wegen seines Milieus war »Dallas« für seine Zeit durchaus innovativ.
