We all love celebrating our age-old festivals, mostly religious festivals, some seasonal festivals as well as our national festivals. They serve as occasions of ‘Lokasangraha’, mass contact and mass communication. They offer opportunities for leadership, budding new talent, general approval and abundant participation. The famous Rathayatra, with great pomp and piety was celebrated recently in Puri as well as in Ahmedabad and elsewhere, too. It becomes a cosmopolitan festival, providing immense scope for display of new talent, training, charity and great cheer. Similarly, Guru Purnima was also recently celebtared all over India by Mahatmas at different centres, chosen by the J.S.S. Devotees of Dada Bhagavan met at select places like Surat, Vadodara, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, etc. and sang ‘bhajans’; listened to interesting discourses on Guru and Jnana related to Akram Vignan and partook of ‘prasad’ happily. Festivals celebrated last month, ‘Raksha-bandhan’, our Independence Day, ‘Paryushan Parva’, Durga Pooja, Onam, Navaratri, Dassehra etc. are fast approaching. And Diwali, of course, is also quite near now. India is a great nation of unity in the midst of diversity, of a rich cultural variety, with a unique ancient heritage. Of festivals of all hues, there is no dearth. Mahatma Shri Vishnubhhai Pathakji wrote about Guru Purnima in his book ‘Words, Windows to Pureself’, published in 1982. He wrote, quoting Shri Krishna in the Bhagawad Gita, Ï¢ãêÝ¢æ Á¢‹}¢¢Ý¢}¢‹¼ï ¿¢¢Ý±¢‹}¢¢æ ÐíÐl¼ï J Which he also revised as ΢΢ S¢±¢üç}¢ç¼ S¢ }¢ã¢y}¢¢ S¢éÎéHü|¢: J It means “Mkðoºk Lku Mkðo{kt ËkËk ¼økðkLkLku òuLkkhku yrík Ëw÷o¼ nkuÞ Au.” In the Gita also Lord Krishna asked Arjuna to be a Yogi, a real ‘Nishkam Karmayogi’ (rLk»fk{ f{oÞkuøke), but later added that a Jnani ‘bhakta’ was very dear to him. Dada Bhagavan gave us such Jnana. Guru Purnima was meant for dissemination of wisdom and light, leading to Moksha.
