Young Literati Seventh Annual Toast Gathers L.A.’s Best and Brightest to Celebrate the Los Angeles Public Library

Busy Philipps, Gillian Jacobs, Jason Mantzoukas, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, La Santa Cecilia, and others to join benefit at The LINE Hotel

LOS ANGELES (March 3, 2015) -- On Saturday, March 28, actors, musicians, and celebrated Angelenos will join together to benefit the Los Angeles Public Library at the Seventh Annual Toast, hosted by the Young Literati of the Library Foundation of Los Angeles.

Held at The LINE Hotel in Koreatown, the Young Literati’s biggest event of the year will be curated by philanthropist, entrepreneur, and Young Literati Chair Amanda Fairey; her husband, artist and activist Shepard Fairey; chef Roy Choi; writer and director Jason Reitman; and Golden Globe- winning actress Kate Hudson. Actress Busy Philipps and producer Samantha Hanks will serve as Honorary Chairs of the event, with Philipps serving as the evening’s emcee.

Over the course of the evening, special guests including actor Colin Hanks (Fargo), actress Gillian Jacobs (Community, Girls), comedian Jason Mantzoukas (The League), DJ/producer Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest), filmmaker Jason Reitman (Men, Women & Children), actress Jenny Slate (Obvious Child), and actress Mae Whitman (Parenthood) will read selections of literature from the Library’s vast collections before a special musical performance from GRAMMY- winning L.A. band La Santa Cecilia. Attendees will also enjoy a live DJ set by Shepard Fairey.

Past Toasts have featured such notable names as Jack Black, Russell Brand, Sarah Silverman, Miranda July, Nick Kroll, Henry Rollins, Tig Notaro, John Densmore, Mayor Eric Garcetti, and others.

Proceeds from the Seventh Annual Toast will support the Los Angeles Public Library’s Full STEAM Ahead program. A series of integrated science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) workshops and events for children, teens, and adults, Full STEAM Ahead seeks to inspire and motivate with fun, hands-on learning activities intent on developing personal traits of curiosity, creativity, and persistence essential to a productive life as well as crucial for successful STEM careers – all for free at the Los Angeles Public Library.

Support for the Seventh Annual Toast comes from the Goldhirsh Foundation, SoCalGas, Merrill Lynch, The Flora L. Thornton Foundation, and others.

Honorary Hosts for this year’s Toast include Moby, Paul Scheer and June Diane Raphael, Gia Coppola, Mark Duplass and Katie Aselton, Jake Kasdan and Inara George, Garfunkel and Oates, Jenny and Johnny, Josh Kun and Ceci Bastida, and City Librarian John F. Szabo.

Tickets for the event are $175 per person ($125 for Young Literati Members, $400 for VIP packages) and can be purchased online at lfla.org/toast.

Comprised of Angelenos in their 20s, 30s and 40s, the Young Literati are the vanguard of the Library Foundation's mission to raise awareness and support for the Los Angeles Public Library.
