Abstract The Intermountain Adaptation Partnership (IAP) identified climate change issues relevant to resource management on Federal lands in Nevada, Utah, southern Idaho, eastern California, and western Wyoming, and developed solutions intended to minimize negative effects of climate change and facilitate transition of diverse ecosystems to a warmer climate. U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service scientists, Federal resource managers, and stakeholders collaborated over a 2-year period to conduct a state-of-science climate change vulnerability assessment and develop adaptation options for Federal lands. The vulnerability assessment emphasized key resource areas— water, fisheries, vegetation and disturbance, wildlife, recreation, infrastructure, cultural heritage, and ecosystem services—regarded as the most important for ecosystems and human communities. Comparatismi 3 2018 ISSN 2531-7547 http://dx.doi.org/10.14672/20181442 Technical Constraints and TV Series as the Main Narrative Genre of the Audiovisual Era Carlotta Susca Abstract • By enlarging the concept of literariness to the concept of narrativity, it is possible to look at narrative genres instead than literary genres. Major changes in the creation of stories have always been depending on technical constraints: epic was the main poetic genre of orality, novel the main literary genre fostered by literacy, and TV series are the main audiovisual genre. TV series are composed by a superimposition of semiotic levels (images, sounds, and texts); accordingly, they require a competent audience that is committed to a united hermeneutic effort. Twin Peaks, the TV series created by David Lynch and Mark Frost, is a complex narrative enthusiastically analyzed by an active fan base on online forums. Literariness and Narrativity By the 1920s, both Roman Jakobson and Viktor Šklovskij proposed the concepts of literariness and the poetic function of language, which characterized poetic texts among other forms of verbal communication. According to the definition of literariness, every text—not only a work of art—could possess it, as long as it’s defamiliarized to some degree. The contemporary concept of narrativity allows a further enlargement of the poetic field to messages elaborated on and transmitted by media other than paper or electronic texts, and not entirely made of words, so gaining audiovisual narratives full citizenship of poetic creation. -

Skyler Osburn “Lynch and Non-Lynch: A Cinematic Engagement with Process Philosophies East and West” English and Philosophy – Oklahoma State University Honors Thesis 1 Introduction I have envisioned what follows as, primarily, a work of comparative philosophy. My understanding of the sense of ‘philosophy’ extends beyond the accepted foundational works of logic, epistemology, and metaphysics, to include psychoanalytical frameworks, as well as aesthetic theories and their aesthetic objects. Whether thinking it or living it, and regardless of its particular effects, philosophy is a fundamentally creative endeavor, so artistic processes especially have a natural place alongside any mode of analytical reasoning. Given these premises, readers of this essay should not expect to find any thorough arguments as to why a given filmmaker might need to be approached philosophically. This project simply accepts that the filmmaker at hand does philosophy, and it intends to characterize said philosophy by explicating complementary figures and paradigms and then reading particular films accordingly. Furthermore, given the comparative nature of the overall project, it might be best to make an attempt at disposing of our presuppositions regarding the primacy of the argumentative as such. In what follows, there are certainly critical moments and movements; for instance, the essay’s very first section attempts to (briefly and incompletely) deconstruct Sartre’s dualistic ontology. Nevertheless, these negative interventions are incidental to a project which is meant to be primarily positive and serve as a speculatively affirmative account of David Lynch’s film- philosophical explorations. The essay that follows is split unevenly into two chapters or divisions, but the fundamental worldview developed throughout its course necessitates the equally fundamental interdependence of their specific conceptualizations. -

Diné, Apache, Hopi, Pueblo, Gila, Yaqui, and O’odham bands are currently creating vast punk and metal music scenes. In this thesis, I argue that Native punk is not just a cultural movement, but a form of survivance. Bands utilize punk and their stories as a conduit to counteract issues of victimhood as well as challenge imposed mechanisms of settler colonialism, racism, misogyny, homophobia, notions of being fixed in the past, as well as bringing awareness to genocide and missing and murdered Indigenous women. Through D.I.Y. and space making, bands are writing music which ii resonates with them, and are utilizing their own venues, promotions, zines, unique fashion, and lyrics to tell their stories. -

From the SelectedWorks of Katrina Wu Spring 2016 YouTube Marketing: Legality of Sponsorship and Endorsement in Advertising Katrina Wu, University of San Diego Available at: http://works.bepress.com/katrina_wu/2/ YOUTUBE MARKETING: LEGALITY OF SPONSORSHIP AND ENDORSEMENTS IN ADVERTISING Katrina Wua1 Abstract YouTube endorsement marketing, sometimes referred to as native advertising, is a form of marketing where advertisements are seamlessly incorporated into the video content unlike traditional commercials. This paper categorizes YouTube endorsement marketing into three forms: (1) direct sponsorship where the content creator partners with the sponsor to create videos, (2) affiliated links where the content creator gets a commission resulting from purchases attributable to the content creator, and (3) free product sampling where products are sent to content creators for free to be featured in a video. Examples in each of the three forms of YouTube marketing can be observed across virtually all genres of video, such as beauty/fashion, gaming, culinary, and comedy. There are four major stakeholder interests at play—the YouTube content creators, viewers, YouTube, and the companies—and a close examination upon the interplay of these interests supports this paper’s argument that YouTube marketing is trending and effective but urgently needs transparency. The effectiveness of YouTube marketing is demonstrated through a hypothetical example in the paper involving a cosmetics company providing free product sampling for a YouTube content creator. Calculations in the hypothetical example show impressive return on investment for such marketing maneuver. Companies and YouTube content creators are subject to disclosure requirements under Federal law if the content is an endorsement as defined by the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”).
