RedWolves Hire Ryan Vruggink as new Head Coach FLORENCE, S.C. — Ryan Vruggink has been named the new Head Coach for the Florence RedWolves 2019 Season. Vruggink is a veteran of the CPL, having coaching stints in Macon and Martinsville. The experience of being in the league was one of the main reasons he chose the Florence job. "My first goal whenever I decided to pursue opportunities as a head coach for the summer of 2019 was to stay in the CPL," said Vruggink. "Having been in the league now for three years, I've grown to really appreciate the level of talent and fans that the games draw on a night to night basis." "When I first spoke with Barbara, I was thrilled that she was interested in the possibility of me becoming the next RedWolves head coach. The facilities at Francis Marion are beautiful and I think will really help me in recruiting for the 2019 Summer and I can't wait to work with her and Kevin to make this a great season of RedWolves baseball. " Last season, Vruggink was a part of the inaugural coaching staff for the Macon Bacon as pitching coach. The Bacon pitching staff was effective this season, with a team ERA of 4.57 and tossing 416 strikeouts. One of the pitchers Vruggink coached in Macon, James Williams, finished with a 2.49 ERA and 46 strikeouts and was named a CPL National League All Star. Williams also played for the RedWolves in 2017, where he'd finish with a 3-0 record, a 3.08 ERA and 18 strikeouts.

Printed on 100% recycled paper. tpl.org © 2021 The Trust for Public Land Saving Places Index REPORT Message from The 1772 Foundation The 1772 Foundation and Historic Macon Foundation are at the forefront of testing a new model for community conservation. The fields of land conservation and historic preservation have been operating in discrete silos in the United States. Yet in the United Kingdom, these fields are blended into one organization that protects special places of all kinds. The broad-based support created by their blended conservation work is extraordinary. We would like to see that model more fully explored in the United States. Our three groups have been exploring blended community conservation efforts through a new framework. Using facilitated community visioning sessions and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping, we are working on programs that will create integrated whole-community maps, helping citizens from all walks of life to identify and visualize high-priority areas that reflect the character of each unique community. This process is driven solely by the desires of the residents — to protect what matters to them, both land and buildings. The 1772 Foundation has provided over $16 million in funding over the past 10 years to land conservation and revolving funds. It is our goal to explore how we might combine these two efforts using citizen-driven data and holistic maps to create “revolving funds for special places.” We believe that blended conservancies based on data asset mapping are an important model to consider if we are to fully rally people behind holistic community conservation.

As one of the largest and most-established youth development nonprofits in Central Georgia, we aim to raise the bar every year and provide a supportive environment that engages young people to achieve their goals. Children in many neighborhoods throughout our service area face challenges to living healthy and productive lives. Opportunity gaps in education, food insecurities, and the cycle of poverty and violence are creating barriers to a better tomorrow. The Boys & Girls Clubs’ evidence-based educational programs are helping to close the achievement gap and boosting student outcomes. Our nutritious snacks and hot meal programs are making a positive impact in decreasing food insecurities for thousands of children each year, and our healthy-lifestyle and character education programs are inspiring children to make better choices and live more active and productive lives.
