intouch Laleham, Green and Charlton Village — Winter 2019 Best wishes for a Happy New Year from your local Councillors for Laleham, Shepperton Green and Charlton Village. Here is a brief overview of each of your Councillors:

Mary Madams - Mobile: 07766 138678 Mary was first elected to this ward in 2003. She has lived in Laleham virtually all her life and has been a member and Chair of the Laleham Residents’ Association (previously the Laleham Society) for over 25 years, raising large amounts for many charities and good local causes. She is a member of All Saints Church and a Governor of Laleham School. As elected Chair of the Council’s Audit Committee, she works hard to ensure good governance and robust risk management are the order of the day. She is also the current Deputy Mayor of Spelthorne. Together with her fellow local councillors, she works hard to safeguard the interests of all our residents across the ward, liaising closely with all three Residents’ Associations.

Richard Smith-Ainsley - Mobile: 07970 281063 Richard has lived in Charlton Village for over thirty years with his wife and son. He has been involved in community activities for most of this time, and is a long serving governor of Manor Mead School. He is working with residents on the Charlton Lane Liaison Group to support their interests in the Eco Park development. Drawing on his long term experience as Chairman of the Spelthorne Planning committee, Richard is also working on Spelthorne’s new ‘Local Plan’ to ensure that future Planning Policies will protect our borough, in particular Shepperton Green, Laleham and Charlton Village. Alongside fellow Councillors on the Spelthorne Joint committee he has helped secure highway significant safety improvements for local residents, and will continue to do so.

Maureen Attewell - Mobile: 07951 655856

Maureen and her husband Steve have lived in Shepperton for the past 12 years. Having taken early retirement from a career in local government, Maureen believed she could put her experience in Housing and Adult & Children’s Social Care to good use within the community. She was elected to the Council in May 2015, joining the borough’s Cabinet the same year. She holds responsibility for Community Wellbeing which includes the borough’s services for older people and children. Maureen has enjoyed working with local residents, supporting and representing them to resolve matters they have sought her assistance with, as well as her wider council responsibilities. She is also a governor at Ashford and St Peters Hospital. www.spelthorneconservatives.org.uk

News in Your Ward

The outline planning application for the expansion of is due to be heard soon. Whilst we applaud the continued success of this vital local employer, we will continue to work closely with residents and our County Councillor to manage and address the traffic management issues that are expected to be a factor should the application be approved. Together with our County Councillor, we have been successfully supporting residents of Charlton Village in securing Average Speed cameras for Charlton Village and look forward to these being installed very soon. Our Windfall grants have now all been spent and work completed on the excellent projects such as: • Funding for the purchase of 5 new benches and refurbishment of others around Laleham Village. • Match funding for a new boat ‘Zingaroo’ for the Queen Mary Sailing Club ‘Sailability Programme’ which enables people with disabilities and/or mobility challenges to learn and enjoy to sail in a safe and specially adapted boat. We were delighted that Princess Anne attended and performed the launch. • A new soft play area for Littleton Infant School, helping with pupil safety and enjoyment of a safe play area.

• A new electronic Smart Board for one of Laleham School’ new classrooms. • Manor Mead School was granted money for outdoor play equipment which has proved extremely beneficial for all the children.

• Match funding for new Gateways for Charlton Village. We are all involved in the challenging of the permissions for the Littleton Lane Industrial site particularly in relation to the amount of HGV movement associated with this area. We are fully supportive of the removal of these HGVs, which we feel is somewhat overdue, as well as the ultimate return of this site to green belt. We have been working continuously on this for some time and are totally supportive of our residents’ views on this. All three of us, your dedicated local councillors, are standing for re-election in May of this year and we do hope you will allow us to continue to serve and work with you for another term. We all possess the experience, knowledge and most importantly, the commitment to work to our very best for our residents and our valued community. Please do contact us at any time should you have any questions or need any help. Thank you.
