SUMMARY Carabus hungaricus Fabricius, 1792 usually inhabits sandy grasslands and dolomitic grass-lands in Hungary. It is listed in the Habitat Directive and it is a characteristic species of the Pannonian biogeographic region. This paper summarizes all available data (literature data, personal communications, all available museum specimens, original research) on the current distribution of Carabus hungaricus in Hungary making use of GIS. The most numerous populations of this carabid beetle live in Pannonic sand steppe biotopes, the most vulnerable of the dolomitic grasslands. In Hungary, Carabus hungaricus is a vulnerable species according to the IUCN criteria. Known habitat types, habitat preferences, co- occurring ground beetle species, and endangering environmental factors are discussed. Keywords : Natura 2000, Carabus hungaricus , nature conservation, distribution, Hungary INTRODUCTION In the Pannonian biogeographical region, Carabus hungaricus Fabricius, 1792 is a species of community interest, whose conservation requires the designation of special areas of conservation.

  • Coleoptera: Carabidae) És Állatföldrajzi Kapcsolatai
Az Északkeleti-Alföld futóbogár faunája (Coleoptera: Carabidae) és állatföldrajzi kapcsolatai The ground-beetle fauna (Coleoptera: Carabidae) of the north-eastern part of the Great Hungarian Plain and its zoogeographical relations Doktori (PhD) értekezés tézisei Ködöböcz Viktor Debreceni Egyetem Természettudományi Kar Debrecen, 2007 1. 1996-ban vizsgálataimat kiterjesztettem a Beregi-síkság határon túli részére is. 1997-ben folytattam vizsgálataimat a Beregi-síkság határon túli részén.

A total of25 1 5 indvidual adult carabids, belonging to 65 species were collected from five localities. The most abundant species were Calathus ambiguus (24.5%), C. cinctus (16.8%) and C.fusc1pes (8.4%). Rare species were Amara proxima, A. sollicita, Cymindis axillaris, C. variolosa, Licinus cassideus and Masoreus wetterhallii. The seasonal activity ofadult Carabus hungaricus is given. C. Introduction acteristic and frequent carabids of dolomitic slopes of one locality, the Odvas-hegy (Buda The insect fauna of the dolomitic grasslands of Mountains) have been published (Szél & Adam the southern slopes of mountains in Hungary is 1992) important for the conservation of biodiversity, Since there are few papers dealing with the because this type of habitat is home to numerous fauna of dolomitic grasslands, the aim of our rare and/or relict species. The most valuable are studies was to explore the ground beetle fauna of the thermophilous species living in the Mediter- such grasslands in several areas of Hungary, to ranean and the Caucasus area and at the northern investigate the species composition and the domi- and western extent of range in Hungary.

FORESTRY IDEAS, 2020, vol. 26, No 2 (60): 435–451 THE GROUND BEETLES (COLEOPTERA: CARABIDAE) FROM A SIGNIFICANT, BUT POORLY STUDIED REGION IN NW BULGARIA. E-mail: [email protected] Received: 12 October 2020 Accepted: 22 November 2020 Abstract This is the second part of the study representing the first overall assessment of the ground beetle fauna in the region of the Zlatiya plateau. The study aimed at analyzing the ecological structure of the carabid fauna represented by 6598 adult carabid specimens, belonging to 138 species, 49 genera and 20 tribes. The dominant structure was characteristic with the presence of 2 eudominants numbering 26 % of all specimens (Harpalus rufipes and Harpalus tardus), 4 dominants (26 %), 1 subdominant (3 %), 17 recedents (27 %) and 114 subrecedents (18 %). The analysis of the life forms showed only a slight predominance of the zoophages (71 species; 52 %) over the mixophytophages (67 species; 48 %). Similar ratio (50: 50 %) is mostly approaching to the typical for the steppe zones, for the orchards from the forest-steppe zones, and for the vast deforested territories across Europe. Humidity preferences analysis showed the larger share of the mesoxerophilous carabids. The prevalence of the macropterous carabids reflected their high- er mobility and adaptiveness. Key words: carabid communities, dominance structure, life forms, wing morphology, Zlatiya.
