These include a single, sessile, cordate leaf that clasps the base of the inflorescence and lies flat on the substrate, petals that are long-decurrent on the column, labellum margins free from sides of the column and a column provided with two separate, cup-shaped stigmatic areas. Because of its morphological uniqueness, the phylogenetic relationships of Discyphus have been considered obscure. Blume f. conformis Hi- ros. Hayak. et J. Yokoy., which occurs in the vicinity of the Tsukuba mountain range in Ibaraki Prefec- ture, Japan. This peloric form is sympatric with C. falcata f. falcata. The peloric flowers have a petal-like lip. The flowers are radially symmetrical and the perianth parts spread weakly compared to normal flow- ers. The stigmas are positioned at the column apex, thus neighboring stigmas and the lower parts of the pollinia are conglutinated. We observed similar vegetative traits among C. falcata f. falcata, C. falcata f. albescens S. Kobayashi, and C. falcata f. conformis. The floral morphology in C. falcata f. conformis resembles that of C. nanchuanica (S.C. Chen) X.H. Jin et X.G. Xiang (i.e., similar petal-like lip and stig- ma position at the column apex; syn. Se describe e ilustra la morfología y el desarrollo floral de Dichromanthus michuacanus, con énfasis en el ginostemio. Se examinaron inflorescencias en diferentes estadios de desarrollo mediante microscopía electrónica de barrido y microscopía de luz. Los órganos florales se diferencian en dirección adaxial-abaxial en el orden siguiente: sépalos laterales, labelo, pétalos, antera y sépalo dorsal. Los ápices carpelares aparecen después, entre la antera y el labelo. Inicialmente hay alargamiento de antera y carpelo medio; el ápice de este último da origen al estigma, rostelo y viscidio y los ápices de los carpelos laterales no contribuyen a la superficie receptiva del estigma. El remanente rostelar es angostamente triangular y el viscidio lo envaina; en la antesis se aprecia una zona de ruptura entre ambas estructuras. Al final del desarrollo crece la parte columnar. La organogénesis temprana de D. michuacanus es similar a la de otros géneros de Spiranthinae y las diferencias estructurales entre las flores se generan en etapas tardías del desarrollo. La estructura del rostelo y viscidio muestra una correspondencia con la morfología del polinizador (Bombus diligens, Apidae); el angosto viscidio de D. -

Biodiversitas 18: 1084-1091. Many orchids have experienced population decline because of natural and anthropogenic disturbances and the remaining populations occur in fragmented habitats. The present study aimed to investigate (i) population of a terrestrial orchid, Peristylus goodyeroides (D. Don) Lindl., in terms of its demography, population size, and plant size, and (ii) characteristics of vegetation surrounding P. goodyeroides and its effect on the population size of P. goodyeroides (iii) environmental factors (litter thickness and soil pH) and their effects on the plant size of P. goodyeroides in five habitats. Number of individuals, plant height and leaf area of P. goodyeroides, surrounding vegetation, litter thickness, and soil pH were recorded in each habitat. The results showed that there was variation in the demographic structure of the population of P. goodyeroides in five habitats. Furthermore, three habitats of P. goodyeroides had small population size and small plant size compared to the other two habitats that had relatively larger population size and plant size. -

Ghimire1 Suspa-Kshamawoti area of Dolakha district covers diverse vegetation types and harbors many interesting species of orchids. This paper documents 69 species of orchids covering 33 genera based on repeated field surveys and herbarium collections. Of them, 50 species are epiphytic (including lithophytes) and 19 species are terrestrial. Information regarding habit and habitat, phenology, host species and elevational range of distribution of each species are provided in the checklist.
