Requests for replacements of missing or defective copies should be directed please to the Editor. REPRESENTING THE SOCIETY The RPS is always keen to be represented at special media-type occasions. However, we do ask that anyone wishing to do this should do so with the express agreement of the Committee. Should the opportunity arise for any member or in exceptional circumstances, friend of a member, to do this please can contact be made with the Secretary (either by telephone or e-mail) setting out the circumstances of the occasion. Please give us at least one week in advance of the occasion. SUBMITTING ARTICLES Submissions may be sent as attachments to an email or by post as documents on a CD or diskette or as a printed document. If sending a diskette or CD, please enclose a hard copy of the article; this helps if file(s) are unreadable for any reason. Please send all submissions to the editor whose contact details are in the inside front cover of Milepost. The editor will normally acknowledge email submissions within a few days, and always within 3 weeks. If sending by post and you wish to have a receipt, please enclose an SAE for reply. If you wish any material/CD/diskette to be returned, please clearly state this. Milepost 23¾ gave detailed guidelines for submissions. The editor is happy to supply these, on request by email or by post. Please note that page margins are critical: one inch or 2.54cm top, bottom, left and right. ANOTHER SALE OF THE CENTURY We have reviewed our policy regarding the availability of back issues of “Milepost” for purchase by members, and - as all previous copies of the magazine are now available on the RPS website or can be obtained from the British Library - it has been decided that it is not necessary to offer back issues of the magazine in the future. Go down the two escalators from the south entrance there are then a number of ways to get to Neville Street but the easiest way to go forward from the escalator through the doors and turn right down Dark Neville Street at the end turn right onto Neville Street cross the traffic lights (water Street) at the corner of Bridgewater Place tower block turn right and the Grove Inn is visible.

    Institutt for geovitenskap Strukturell kontroll av stratiform jernmalm ved Kvannevann øst, Dunderlandsdalen, Nordland Fredrik Lie Masteroppgave i geologi, GEO-3900, Mai 2019 i Sammendrag Stratiform jernmalm av verdensklasse fremgår i Dunderlandsdalen, der de prinsipielle malmmineralene består av hematitt og magnetitt. Jernmalmen tilhører Dunderlandsformasjonen, som er del av Ramnålidekket innenfor Rødingsfjell dekkekompleks i det øverste allokton av den kaledonske fjellkjeden. Sidebergartene til jernmalmen består av godt folierte glimmerskifere, metapsammitter og tykke lagpakker av dolomittisk og kalsittisk marmor, som har gjennomgått metamorfose i amfibolitt fase. Sekvensen med bergarter som jernmalmen inngår i, ble avsatt i neoproterozoikum. Bergartene ble deformert gjennom flere faser (D1-D3) under den kaledonske fjellkjededannelsen. D1 omfatter F1 folder som er resultat av Ø-V strykende makro- til meso og mikro-skala isoklinale skjærfolder av antatt primærsedimentære lag, som har medført repetisjoner av stratigrafien, og samtidig utviklet en gjennomgående akseplanfoliasjon (S1). Foliasjonen er i dag subvertikal og inneholder blant annet strekningslineasjoner og mylonittiske skjærsoner med interne, disharmoniske F1-folder og komplekst transponerte foldehengsler. D2 førte til refolding av S1 og tilhørende intrafoliale strukturelementer gjennom asymmetriske og svakt overbikkede tett til moderat åpne folder (F2), koaksialt til F1 folder, og sannsynligvis var årsaken til vertikalstilling av lagrekken. Det siste duktile deformasjonsstadiet foregikk gjennom refolding av hele dekkesekvensen i makro skala. Mikroteksturelle studier av hematitt- og magnetittmalm har påvist tidlig hematitt langs rytmiske lag/bånd sammen med kompetente kvartsrike lag. Større tabulær hematitt (spekularitt) er utviklet parallelt med S1 i forbindelse med den første påviste foldefasen, og en enda senere generasjon langs F2 akseplan. Magnetitt utgjør større anhedrale korn som har vokst over hematitt og indikerer en senere dannelse.

    The new footbridge at Eridge station Oct 30, 2020 17:30 GMT New £1.8m footbridge opens at Eridge station in East Sussex Network Rail have issued the following press release: Passengers will now benefit from improved access at Eridge station in East Sussex after the opening of a new £1.8m footbridge. The work was needed due to the age and condition of the old structure, in order to protect the safety of those using the bridge and the trains operating below. Eridge station serves the rural district in East Sussex with Southern trains services via the Uckfield branch of the Oxted line. The existing staircases and bridge have been replaced with a new modern-designed footbridge. Glazing panels have been incorporated into the footbridge to allow for natural light. The platform canopies at Eridge station have also been refurbished, improving the overall passenger experience for passengers commuting to London or visiting the Spa Valley Railway. Paul Harwood, regional investment director for Network Rail, said: “I’m very grateful to passengers for their patience whilst we improved the footbridge at Eridge station. The new bridge will deliver a safe and reliable walking route over the railway while maintaining access between the lineside communities. “We are committed to improving the railway environment for passengers, and this footbridge will enhance their journey experience for many years to come”.
