  • The Broken Cross
THE BROKEN CROSS BY PIERS COMPTON (1984) This book was written in the early 1980's by a Catholic layman alarmed at the direction of the post Vatican II church. The author makes well supported charges the uppermost offices of the Church have been infiltrated by Luciferian Secret Societies, and that the problem is not confined to liberal prelates. He provides evidence that John XXIII and Paul VI were likely members of secret cults, and that John Paul I was murdered. Such is likely to be disturbing to Catholics who put their trust in the Roman Curia. • Romero: Person and His Charisma with the Pontiffs
260914: Julian Filochowski Romero: Person and His Charisma with the Pontiffs. It is my intuition that ‘the annunciation’ is just around the corner; that is an announcement from Rome - not from the Angel Gabriel, but from the Cardinal ‘Angel’ (Angelo) Amato, Head of the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints – an announcement that our beloved Servant of God, Oscar Romero, will be raised to the altars during 2015. Oremus! Archbishop Romero is not only the most famous Salvadoran of our times, but also the most loved and simultaneously the most hated. Nevertheless it seems entirely fitting to me to adapt the words from Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, “he was the noblest Salvadoran of them all”. Indeed today he is recognised as such, repeatedly acclaimed by President Funes as the ‘spiritual guide of the nation’ - with monuments and memorials in almost every town and village in El Salvador. He has been described as a national treasure. As a holy prophet and martyr, Oscar Romero is, I would suggest, a precious diamond, who adds a special redemptive lustre to the universal Church of the 20th century. For over 30 years, however, Archbishop Romero’s detractors inside the Church have tried to paint a picture of him as a rather cheap fake diamond - naïve, vain, manipulated, doctrinally heterodox and politically extreme. (In truth they feared Romero’s canonisation might be interpreted as the canonisation of liberation theology.) And they are still not finished - even though their curial leader, the Colombian Cardinal Alfonso Lopez Trujillo, has now gone to that great dicastery in the sky, with God.

  • Stephen J. Cannell, 1941-2010
STEPHEN J. CANNELL, 1941-2010 Stephen J(oseph) Cannell was born February 5, 1941 to Joseph Cannell, a Pasadena, California entrepreneur. Cannell struggled through his early school years, flunking three different grades of elementary, junior or senior high school, and regularly failing his English classes. Years later, when having one of his own children tested for dyslexia, he discovered that he had suffered from it his entire life. Never the less, he had a passionate love for writing, despite his difficulties with the written word, and set a goal for himself to become a best-selling author. After attending the University of Oregon on a football scholarship and meeting creative writing teachers that bolstered his confidence, Cannell married his high school sweetheart and went to work for his family’s business – driving a furniture truck all day. In the evenings, he set a rigorous writing schedule for himself – writing 5 hours a day, 7 days a week, on spec. He decided that his target market would be the burgeoning television scene, and after 6 years without a sale, he finally sold a script – to the series Ironside. After a few more sales, he caught the eye of the legendary writer/producer Jack Webb, who first hired him to be story editor and ultimately head writer for Adam-12. Cannell was contracted to Universal Television, writing and producing shows for that studio during the early-to-mid 1970s. While there, he produced Chase and wrote for and produced Toma, about real-life New York City detective David Toma. While producing Toma, Cannell and his mentor Roy Huggins (creator of Maverick, and many other tv series) wrote an episode that ended up getting rewritten to serve as a pilot for a series about an unorthodox Southern California P.I.

It concerns itself with topics pertaining to the spiritual doctrine and practice of Jesuits, especially United States Jesuits, and communicates the results to the members of the provinces through its publication, STUDIES IN THE SPIRITUALITY OF JESUITS. This is done in the spirit of Vatican Li's recommendation that religious institutes recapture the original inspiration of their founders and adapt it to the circumstances of modern times. The Seminar welcomes reactions or comments in regard to the material that it publishes. The Seminar focuses its direct attention on the life and work of the Jesuits of the United States. The issues treated may be common also to Jesuits of other regions, to other priests, religious, and laity, to both men and women. Hence, the journal, while meant especially for American Jesuits, is not exclusively for them. Others who may find it helpful are cordially welcome to make use of it. CURRENT MEMBERS OF THE SEMINAR Robert L. Bireley, S.J., teaches history at Loyola University, Chicago, IL (2001). Richard A.
