Title: Incident on the Edge of Madness 06 Feb The herd is stopped by high water at a river for a few days and Favor refuses to allow the men to go to The Edge of Madness. The half-crazed southern Colonel Millett who Favor served under in the war comes into Favor's camp one evening with a pretty woman Narcissa and announces he's hiring men to help him set up a new Confederate Empire of Panama. One dim-witted cowboy, Jesse, decides to leave as he believes Narcissa is The Edge of Madness love with him. In reality she hopes to use him to entice others to join. Favor sensing more men will leave decides to cross the river before the water has subsided. It fails and he loses one young drover who couldn't swim. The men, upset with Favor's admitted mistake, join Jesse. Narcissa and the Colonel know they need Favor to lead the men try to entice him to join them letting slip the Colonel plans to rob the Army payroll at a nearby fort the next day. As winter sets in, a young woman on the edge of madness arrives exhausted at the fort, a wilderness station, claiming she murdered her husband. She's placed in a cell; for the next several The Edge of Madness, she sews while the local prefect, Henry Mullen, investigates. In flashbacks we see her arranged marriage to the hard-working but angry Simon, who takes her to his half-built homestead and abuses her. The scenery of Canadian life in the 19th century is really captivating and draws you as a viewer into its raw atmosphere. You really feel the The Edge of Madness against the elements as the characters are faced against it. Their harsh lives make it practically unbearable to keep a steady pace in life, let alone to have a decent love life.
