Dear Ana,

We really don't have an "offcial" bio, but hopefully this will be of help. Edit as you see fit, I wasn't sure how much info you needed so I may have gone into too much detaiL.

Cole Porter was born in Peru, Indiana on June 9, 1891. His weaithy grandfather wanted him to become a lawyer, but his mother had other ideas. She encouraged his budding musical genius by enrolling him in violin and piano lessons at an early age. He was ten when he wrote his first composition, "The Song of the Birds".

In 1905 Cole entered Worcester Academy in Massachusetts. He graduated as the valedictorian in 1909, after which he attended Yale University. Cole took an active part in the musical life of the college, writing the score to many student shows and singing in the Glee Ciub and the Whiffenpoofs. His football songs, "Bull Dog" and "Bingo Eli Yale" are still sung at Yale.

His first Broadway show. "See America First" (1916), was poorly received, and Cole exiled himselfto Europe. During W-i, he worked with the Dureya Relief Organization in France. He also lead a glamourous and charmed life as a member of the Lost Generation, mixing with Europe's high society, as well as the expatriate group of American artists who made Europe their home between the wars.

In 1919 Porter married the legendary society beauty Linda Lee Thomas. They iived in . Linda encouraged Cole's musical talents, and throughout the 1920s he contributed songs to various shows and revues. In 1928. at the urging of Irving Berlin, he wrote the full score to the show "Paris", which became Porter's first big Broadway hit, and gave us such songs as "Let's Do It' and "Let's Misbehave".

The 1930s were Porter's most prolific decade. Splitting his time between New York and Hollywood, he wrote a string of sparkling hits, among them "Night and Day", "You're the Top", "". "Don't Fence Me In", and "Love for Sale". Some of his more familiar scores from this decade include "", "", "Born to Dance" and" ".

A crippiing riding accident in 1937 left Porter in constant pain. yet he continued to write memorable songs, such as "Every time We Say Goodbye", "My Heart Belongs to Daddy" and "Friendship". His masterpiece, "Kiss Me, Kate", opened in 1948, and other wonderful shows such as "Can Can" and "" followed.

After more than 30 operations on his legs, his right leg was finally amputated in 1958. After this, Porter put down his pen and never wrote again. He received an honorary doctorate from Yaie in î 960. He died in Santa Monica in 1964, and is buried in his hometown of Peru. Two major motion pictures have been made of his life story; he has been portrayed by Cary Grant ("Night and Day") and Kevin Kline ("De-Lovely").
