San Diego State University Band & Orchestra Continues 2019 Tour in Fresno on March 13 Tour includes performances across California; band to perform David Maslanka’s Symphony No. 4; orchestra to perform Theofanidis’s Rainbow Body and Tahata Garden, featuring saxophone soloist, Dr. Todd Rewoldt

Fresno, CA. - The San Diego State University Band and Symphony Orchestra will perform in Fresno, California at Fresno College on Wednesday, March 13 at 7 p.m. as part of its 2019 . Fresno City College Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Elisha Wilson, will host the ensembles and also perform on the collaborative concert.

The San Diego State Band and Orchestra, conducted by Shannon Kitelinger and Michael Gerdes, are comprised of the most outstanding student musicians at San Diego State University and are renowned for their outstanding, collaborative performances and innovative programming, including new works for the ensembles as well as traditional works that are staples in the symphonic repertoire. This tour’s program features the SDSU Symphony Orchestra performing Christopher Theofanidis’s Rainbow Body, Vivian Fung’s Graffiti Mashup, Marquez’s Conga del Fuego, and Joe Water’s Tahata Garden, featuring Dr. Todd Rewoldt on alto saxophone. The SDSU Band will perform David Maslanka’s monumental Symphony No. 4. Also on the concert, the Wind Symphony will feature a WORLD PREMIERE performance of Sanger native and SDSU music education major, Charles MeKealian’s, Perseverance of a Civilization.

“Our tour is unique because you’ll get to hear our top two instrumental ensembles, the SDSU Symphony Orchestra and SDSU Wind Symphony (Band),” states Director of Bands, Dr. Shannon Kitelinger. “I don’t know any other university in the nation that tours with both their band and orchestra in this way, showcasing both of these outstanding ensembles and providing a glimpse of the truly all-encompassing music education available to students at San Diego State University.”

The concert is free for all in attendance.

The SDSU Band and Orchestra have many Fresno natives participating in the ensembles. ties with Fresno area schools. Dr. Kitelinger retuns to Fresno the following week (March 23), on an invitation from Fresno City College Director of Bands Elisha Wilson, to serve as a guest adjudicator at the FCC Band Festival, along with Fresno State Director of Bands, Gary P. Gilroy.

About San Diego State University Wind Symphony The SDSU Wind Symphony is the premiere wind group at San Diego State University. Membership is selected through audition from the most outstanding musicians attending the university. The ensemble embraces the wind band movement through promoting the repertoire of the past as well as the music of today.
