Wildcats Trade for Veteran Defender Deal with Edmundston Brings in Three New Faces For immediate release 08/21/2019 Wildcats Trade for Veteran Defender Deal with Edmundston brings in three new faces BERWICK, NS --- The Valley Junior A Wildcats, proud members of the Maritime Hockey League, have completed a trade with the Edmundston Blizzard, adding players for the present and future. The deal sends Brock McLeod, a 20 year old forward who spent most of last season with the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL, and a conditional second round pick in the 2021 draft, to northern New Brunswick. In return, the Wildcats receive 20 year old defenceman Keenan Gillis, 17 year old defender Brant King, and 16 year old forward Joseph Merriam. Gillis has spent the last two years with the Blizzard. The Port Hawkesbury native tallied 27 points last season, and played in all fifty games for the club. Wildcats General Manager Brandon Benedict says Gillis is a top defenceman in the MHL, and will be an impact player this season. Brant King, a native of Lower Sackville, NS, scored 23 points last season with the Halifax Macs in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League. “King is a strong, puck moving defenceman,” says Benedict. “He has the ability to jump up into the rush and contribute on both sides of the puck.” Joseph Merriam played his first season of Major Midget hockey last year, lacing up with the Cole Harbour Wolfpack. The 16 year old from Milford, NS scored 14 points last season. Benedict says Merriam is an exciting forward who plays with lots of energy. “He does all the little things to help the team have success.” The Valley Junior A Wildcats kick off their sixth season at the Appledome in Berwick on Friday, September 13 hosting the Fredericton Red Wings. Two home pre-season games are also scheduled: Sunday, September 1 at 4pm in Berwick hosting the Truro Bearcats, and Saturday, September 7 hosting the Yarmouth Mariners at Credit Union Place in Kingston at 7pm. • Aigles Recruiting Class Grows
14 février 2018 – Acadie Nouvelle Aigles recruiting class grows SEAN HATCHARD TIMES & TRANSCRIPT Dieppe defenceman Alexandre Bernier is joining the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus next season. PHOTO: SAINT JOHN SEA DOGS Director of hockey operations Jean-François Damphousse believes better days are ahead for the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus. They can only go up from here. Coming off a three-win season and failing to make the Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey conference playoffs, the Aigles Bleus’ recruiting class for next season grew on Tuesday. The club announced it’s adding four 20-year-old defencemen - Vincent Lanoue, Tobie Paquette-Bisson, former Moncton Wildcat Olivier Desjardins and Dieppe’s Alexandre Bernier - for next year. Lanoue, Paquette-Bisson and Desjardins have all played at least four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Bernier, currently with the Edmundston Blizzard in 14 février 2018 – Acadie Nouvelle the Maritime Junior Hockey League, won a QMJHL President Cup championship and played in the Memorial Cup with the Saint John Sea Dogs last season. Moncton has already landed QMJHL standout goaltender Étienne Montpetit of the Victoriaville Tigres and former Baie- Comeau Drakkar star forward Maxime St-Cy, who red-shirted this season after playing two years professionally. “The defencemen we’ve signed are leaders on their teams. When you bring in leaders from that type of league, it brings credibility,”said Damphousse, who was hired by UdeM in the new role last May. “It’s the beginning and we have a long way to go to becoming a championship team. Moving forward, we can be in the game when it comes to recruitment.

  • April 2, 2021 Vs Cape Breton Eagles
GAME PREVIEW Happy Easter! This afternoon’s Good Friday matchup features your Halifax Mooseheads (13-16-5-3) vs the visiting Cape Breton Eagles (12-22-1-0) at 4pm at Scotiabank Centre. The Moose are looking for a bounce back game after a one-sided loss last night to Charlottetown that saw the Islanders not only win 6-2 but dominate on the shot clock 45-15. Halifax played that game with a depleted lineup as Senna Peeters, Cam Whynot, Kyle Petten and leading scorer Elliot Desnoyers all sat out as a precaution with virus symptoms. All players have tested negative for Covid-19. All four players will be game-time decisions this afternoon. Defenceman Jake Furlong was injured when he took a puck to the face last night and will miss today’s game. Fans not in attendance can watch on Eastlink channels 10 or 610, listen on NEWS 957 or subscribe to the QMJHL webcast at https://qmjhl.neulion.com/qmjhl/. SCOTTY’S 3 WHOPPERS OF THE GAME MORE OF THE SAME The QMJHL announced four additional games in April for the Mooseheads yesterday, all of them against Charlottetown. The Herd will play two on the road and twice at home (April 9th & 17th) while there is strong indications that play will be opened up to facing the New Brunswick teams as the regular season wraps up and the playoffs begin. That will be a welcome sight for all of us. Q DEBUT X2 Dylan Chisholm was signed and called up on an emergency basis last night to fill in on the blue line.
