We were unable to come to terms on a new lease with our landlord, Armco Capital. So the Hall, which had been located in the old Trade Centre for the past 15 years, closed its doorsT on Sept. 30th. An extensive search is on for a new home, and we fully intend to emerge from this as the finest Hall of its kind in the country. In the meantime, the Hall will exist virtually at nsshf.com, where all artifacts, inductees, programming and updated staff contact info can be found. The Hall will continue to offer its award-winning “Future Hall of Famers” education program to students across the province. And the annual Induction Night is scheduled to return in November of 2021. We will continue to honour and preserve the legacies of Nova Scotians who have made significant contributions to sport in the province. And we will make sure these stories are told to Nova Scotia youth, so that they may see what can be accomplished with hard work and a healthy dose of humility. Follow the route online (https://nsshf.com/halifax-sport-heritage-walk/) and we will guide you around Halifax to some of the most important sport heritage sites in the city. This tour is now a Handpicked Halifax experience with Discover Halifax. • The Hall of Fame unveiled a new temporary exhibit in summer 2019 that featured a selection of editorial cartoonist Bruce MacKinnon’s greatest sport cartoons. The exhibit of original sports-themed cartoons from MacKinnon’s many years at The Chronicle Herald is titled “Sports Illustrated: The Nova Scotia Edition.” The exhibit will be travelling in 2021 and will be on display at STFX University’s Art Gallery from late April to early September. • From May 22 to June 12, 2020, 72 participants got busy walking, running and moving in “Victory Lap,” the Hall of Fame’s first-ever virtual fun run. This virtual event encouraged participants to stay active during the COVID lockdown, while also raising $2,500 for Kids Help Phone. Participants completed and logged kilometres with the goal of collectively accumulating enough kilometres to go all the way around Nova Scotia— the ultimate victory lap! The incredible “Victory Lap” participants logged enough kilometres to complete three laps of the province. You can find more information about the event at https://nsshf.com/victory-lap-virtual-fun-run/ • During the COVID lockdown, the Hall of Fame hosted and recorded several online Q&A events with athletes, musicians and public figures. Check them out at https://nsshf.com/events/ or on our YouTube channel. Interviewees included athletes Jennifer Jones, Jody Shelley, Ellie Black, and Kia Nurse; musicians Lennie Gallant and Murray Mclauchlan; and, news anchor Peter Mansbridge. 4 OUR EDUCATION PROGRAM The Future Hall of Famers Education Program presented to 80 schools— both at the Hall of Fame museum and through visits to schools around the province— between Fall 2019 and the start of shutdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After mid- March 2020, the program delivered six virtual school visits. All in all, the education program has reached over 8,000 youth in the past 12 months. The Hall of Fame was able to present to schools and organizations from one end of Nova Scotia to the other, including North End Halifax, Spryfield, Rawdon, Kennetcook, New Ross, Mount Uniacke, Port Hawkesbury, Waycocomagh, Beaver Bank, Dutch Settlement, Coldbrook and more.

Twenty-eight years ago Golden and Wasil (1987) presented the use of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) for ranking outstanding sports records. Since then much has changed with respect to sports and sports records, the application and theory of the AHP, and the availability of the internet for accessing data. In this paper we revisit the ranking of outstanding sports records and build on past work, focusing on a comprehensive set of records from the four major American professional sports. We interviewed and corresponded with two sports experts and applied an AHP-based approach that features both the traditional pairwise comparison and the AHP rating method to elicit the necessary judgments from these experts. The most outstanding sports records are presented, discussed and compared to Golden and Wasil’s results from a quarter century earlier. Portail de l'éducation de Historica Canada Canada's Game - The Modern Era Overview This lesson plan is based on viewing the Footprints videos for Gordie Howe, Bobby Orr, Father David Bauer, Bobby Hull,Wayne Gretzky, and The Forum. Throughout hockey's history, though they are not presented in the Footprints, francophone players like Guy Lafleur, Mario Lemieux, Raymond Bourque, Jacques Lemaire, and Patrick Roy also made a significant contribution to the sport. Parents still watch their children skate around cold arenas before the sun is up and backyard rinks remain national landmarks. But hockey is no longer just Canada's game. Now played in cities better known for their golf courses than their ice rinks, hockey is an international game. Hockey superstars and hallowed ice rinks became national icons as the game matured and Canadians negotiated their role in the modern era. Aims To increase student awareness of the development of the game of hockey in Canada; to increase student recognition of the contributions made by hockey players as innovators and their contributions to the game; to examine their accomplishments in their historical context; to explore how hockey has evolved into the modern game; to understand the role of memory and commemoration in our understanding of the past and present; and to critically investigate myth-making as a way of understanding the game’s relationship to national identity. Background Frozen fans huddled in the open air and helmet-less players battled for the puck in a -28 degree Celsius wind chill. The festive celebration was the second-ever outdoor National Hockey League game, held on 22 November 2003.

While this call to action has strongly influenced the interdisciplinary impulse of performance studies and prompted important cross- disciplinary investigations between performance genres such as theatre, dance, performance art, political performance, ritual, and play, sport has remained under- theorized in the field. In this project, I begin to fill this gap by approaching the practices, activities, and events of twenty-first century sport through the lens of performance studies.
