New Zealand: Auckland and Campbell Islands. HABITAT A species of mostly upland cushion bogs and Pleurophyllum Hook.f. dominated meadows. Also grows at low altitudes in exposed, inhospitable, sparsely vegetated sites. FEATURES Stoloniferous herb with thick woody multicipital basal stock. Living leaves densely imbricating and forming rosettes at tips of branchlets and sometimes at ends of leafy stolons. Leaves glossy as though varnished, glabrous; venation simple with lateral veins of sheath not extending into the lamina. Ptyxis plain. Inflorescence scapose and monocephalous. Receptacle obconic; phyllaries in several series, bearing eglandular uniseriate hairs only. Ray florets ligulate, female, white, occasionally pale rose especially near tips, limb and tube clad in scattered hairs. Disc florets tubular, pefect, purple or occasionally yellow, cyathiform above point of insertion of stamen filaments and usually cylindrical below, although occasionally gradually narrowing towards corolla base; corolla hairs eglandular biseriate and uniseriate; stamen tip usually obtuse or if acute then short, anther tails present but shorter than the basally narrowed filament collar; style arms short, terminal appendage broadly triangular and bearing long collecting hairs on back and margin. Pappus bristles unequal, in more than one series, plumose with long crowded teeth. -

Abstract Patterns of flammability across the vascular plant phylogeny, with special emphasis on the genus Dracophyllum by Xinglei Cui Fire has been part of the environment for the entire history of terrestrial plants and is a common disturbance agent in many ecosystems across the world. Fire has a significant role in influencing the structure, pattern and function of many ecosystems. Plant flammability, which is the ability of a plant to burn and sustain a flame, is an important driver of fire in terrestrial ecosystems and thus has a fundamental role in ecosystem dynamics and species evolution. However, the factors that have influenced the evolution of flammability remain unclear. -

By the aid of our supporter, the Assyrian Education Process continued and we were able to cover the transportation and lecturers' costs, printing the curriculum, distributing stationary to the students and supplying the schools with its necessary needs to ensure the continuation of the Process. Here we must pay tribute to our supporters, specially the Assyrian Aid Society of America by covering a large proportion of the Assyrian Education deficit through several payments, as well as the support the Assyrian Aid Society of Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Our Society was able to organize several relief programs for our People coming as refugees from Syria, by the support of AASA, AAS-Au, AAS-Ca, AAS Germany and AAS Sweden, as well as the other Societies and Organizations, as: SALT Foundation from Holland, the Evangelical Lutheran Churches from Germany and the Assyrian National Council of Illinois. -

Interactions among drivers can lead to complex non-linear outcomes for ecosystems, communities and species, but are infrequently quantified. Through a combination of experimental, observational and modelling approaches, I address critical gaps in our understanding of the interactive effects of climate change and plant invasion, using Tongariro National Park (TNP; New Zealand) as a model. TNP is an alpine ecosystem of cultural significance which hosts a unique flora with high rates of endemism. TNP is invaded by the perennial shrub Calluna vulgaris (L.) Hull. My objectives were to: 1) determine whether species- specific phenological shifts have the potential to alter the reproductive capacity of native plants in landscapes affected by invasion; 2) determine whether the effect of invasion intensity on the Species Area Relationship (SAR) of native alpine plant species is influenced by environmental stress; 3) develop a novel modelling framework that would account for density-dependent competitive interactions between native species and C. -

Tracing their heritage to ancient Assyria, Assyrians speak an ancient language referred to as Assyrian, Syriac, Aramaic, or Neo-Aramaic. The contiguous territory that forms the traditional Assyrian homeland includes parts of southern and south- eastern Turkey, northwestern Iran, northern Iraq, and northeastern Syria. The Assyrian population in Iraq, estimated at approximately 200,000, constitutes the largest remaining concentration of the ethnic group in the Middle East. The majority of these reside in their ancestral homeland located in the Nineveh Plain and within today’s Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Assyrians are predominantly Christian. Some ethnic Assyrians self-identify as Chaldeans or Syriacs, depending on church denomination. Assyrians have founded five Eastern Churches at different points during their long history: the Ancient Church of the East, the Assyrian Church of the East, the Chaldean Catholic Church, the Syriac Catholic Church, and the Syriac Orthodox Church. The majority of Assyrians who remain in Iraq today belong to the Chaldean and Syriac churches. Assyrians represent one of the most consistently persecuted communities in Iraq and the wider Middle East. Ignurbia, a New Genus of the Asteraceae-Senecioneae from Hispaniola

Its only species, I. constanzae, first described by Ignatz Urban under Senecio, is illustrated. The new genus is characterized by its herbaceous, suffruticose habit, dissected leaves with a herbaceous texture, orange or dirty yellow discoid capitula and styles with continuous stigmatic areas lacking distinct sweeping-hairs. Possibly related genera are Odontocline (Jamaica), Jessea (Costa Rica, Panama) and Talamancalia (Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, Peru). Introduction During my ongoing revision of the Asteraceae tribe Senecioneae of the Greater Antilles the need for a new generic taxonomy has become obvious. In the most recent flora by Liogier (1996) the Senecioneae are represented in Hispaniola by Senecio (16 spp.), Erechtites (2 spp.), Emilia (3 spp.), Pseudogynoxys (1 sp.) and the endemic genera Herodotia (3 spp.) and Mattfeldia (1 sp.). Liogier (1996) also included Liabum and Neurolaena in the Senecioneae, but these genera be- long to the tribes Liabeae and Heliantheae, respectively. Not noted by Liogier (1996), Borhidi & al. (1992) added to the flora of Hispaniola the new genus Ekmaniopappus, comprising two of the species formerly treated in Herodotia, and the genus Pentacalia, by combining two Senecio spp.
