  • Hip-Hop Education Center to Launch Campaign Asking President Obama
For Immediate Release Press Contact: November 3, 2015 Lily Zaballos (510) 566-0814 [email protected] Hip-Hop Education Center to launch campaign asking President Obama to designate hip-hop as valuable public school education tool; hosts first annual awards for Hip-Hop Education pioneers NEW YORK — Today, the Hip-Hop Education Center (HHEC) announces that it will launch on November 11, 2015, the We The People for Hip-Hop Education in Public Schools, a petition requesting that the Obama Administration designate Hip-Hop culture as a valuable and uniquely American national treasure worthy of being taught and practiced in all K-12 public schools. “Carlos Mare and I are excited to share what we’ve been passionately working on for the past year, we know this will be game changer in education reform and will open up opportunities for millions of children.” said HHEC Founder Martha Diaz. For the past five years, HHEC has been conducting research, evaluating programs, and convening the teachers, teaching artists, scholars, researchers, activists, and music industry professionals to research and build a Hip-Hop Education movement. Research shows that Hip-Hop programing is making a difference with student engagement and academic outcomes. HHEC believes integrating Hip-Hop into public school education could help solve the U.S. education crisis: • Students are not being engaged in school. Approximately, 1.1 million American high school students drop out every year. That’s a student every 26 seconds – or 7,000 a day. • This education crisis poses direct negative consequences to poverty, crime, and economic conditions to our society.

broadwayworld.com http://www.broadwayworld.com/article/New-BeBe-Winans-Musical-BORN-FOR-THIS-Kathleen-Turner-and-More-Among-Arena-Stages- 2016-17-Lineup-20160215 New BeBe Winans Musical 'BORN FOR THIS', Kathleen Turner and More Among Arena Stage's 2016-17 Lineup by BWW News Desk Arena Stage just announced an exciting, starry 2016/17 season, which will showcase the theater's mission of American voices and artists. Spurred by its role as one of the seven originating theaters of D.C.'s Women's Voices Theater Festival, Arena Stage has embraced a commitment to inclusion with a season featuring seven titles by women, six playwrights of color and five female directors. On assembling the lineup Smith shares, "Arena has such a smart and diverse audience, so it is always a challenge to ensure everyone is energized. This season we leaned into that challenge and are welcoming a host of extremely talented artists both returning and new. This season is a celebration of Arena's broad shoulders, from our Lillian Hellman Festival, a Lorraine Hansberry classic and the gold-standard musical to world-premiere political dramas, a comedy and a new musical. The Mead Center was designed to have these different audiences unite in our flowing lobby, and I'm eager to experience this throughout our dynamic season." The season kicks off in July with the original world-premiere musical Born for This: The BeBe Winans Story by six- time Grammy Award winner BeBe Winans and veteran Arena Stage playwright/director Charles Randolph-Wright. Featuring new music by BeBe, the musical chronicles the early days of his career with sister CeCe and will star their niece and nephew, siblings Deborah Joy Winans and Juan Winans.

  • Sparrow Records Discography
Sparrow Discography by Mike Callahan, David Edwards & Patrice Eyries © 2018 by Mike Callahan Sparrow Records Discography Sparrow is a Contemporary Christian label founded in 1976 by Billy Ray Hearn. Hearn was the A&R Director for Word Records’ Myrrh label, founded a few years earlier also as a Contemporary Christian label. Sparrow also released records under their Birdwing subsidiary. Hearn’s Sparrow label was in competition with Hearn’s old boss, Word Records, and was quite successful. Even today, Sparrow is among the top Christian labels. Hearn sold the label to EMI in 1992, and it was placed under the Capitol Christian Music Group. Sparrow signed a distribution agreement with MCA in April, 1981 to release their product in the secular market while the regular Sparrow issues were distributed to Christian stores and Christian radio stations. The arrangement with MCA lasted until October, 1986, when Sparrow switched distribution to Capitol.
