MyCamTools user guide

Preface

What is MyCamtools?

MyCamtools is a collection of widgets to show you interesting CamTools data from your sites using popular third party applications/web sites. In this way, you can keep up to date with changes in your CamTools sites without having to go to the CamTools website every time.

Widget guide

Main MyCamTools site

This is the main page where you can see a overview of all of the MyCamTools widgets. You can click on the ones you desire.

FaceBook

FaceBook application installation guide. 1.First log in on FaceBook using your FaceBook account. 2.Go to the FaceBook application page on the widgets website. You should see this page:

2.Click on the provided link to add the application.

3.On the next screen you should click the Add Application( ) button.

4.The following screen lets you decide once more if you really want to install MyCamTools. If you do, click the Add CamTools Dev button.

5.If you see this page, all went well.

FaceBook widget usage guide The association section.

The first page you see (before you are associated with a RAVEN/Friends login) is the association page of the tool. This displays 2 buttons. Use the Raven Login button if you have a Raven login. If you have a Friends login, use the Friends Login button.

When you click one of those these buttons you will have to login into Raven/Friends. After a correct login you will be redirected back to the FaceBook site. You should then see the confirmation below. Click “continue” to proceed to the application.

Recent Changes section.

This page displays the recent changes in your CamTools sites. When you click on these recent items or your sites in the list, it will show you the content of the Announcement/Resource within CamTools. Do keep in mind that in that case you will have to login first in order to view or download the selected content, so we can guarantee your and security.

Use the paging on top to scroll through all your recent changes.

Resources section

This page displays the resources in your CamTools sites. When you click on a file in the list, it will show you the content of the resource within CamTools. Do keep in mind that in that case you will have to login first in order to download the selected content, so we can guarantee your privacy and security.This will display the 100 most recent in your CamTools sites.

Announcements section

This page displays the announcements in your CamTools sites. When you click on the announcements in the list, it will show you the content of the announcement within CamTools. Do keep in mind that in that case you will have to login first in order to view the selected announcement, so we can guarantee your privacy and security.

University News & Events section

This page displays a fine selection of the latest News and Events from around the University of Cambridge. You can find more information about each fact by following the link.

MySettings section

This page gives you the chance to remove the current FaceBook-CamTools association. Removing the association means that in order to reuse the FaceBook Application, you will have to re-associate your Friends/Raven login with FaceBook. Do note that we will not use your FaceBook account data for anything at all.

Click the “remove your current CamTools Raven association” or if you are a friend the “remove your current CamTools Friends association” link.

iGoogle

iGoogle widget installation guide 1.Click on the iGoogle link on the MyCamTools widget homepage.

2.Now you should see this page pop-up. Click on the link provided.

3.This will direct you to the iGoogle page. Click the button to add MyCamTools to your iGoogle page.

4.You should see your iGoogle page now that will contain this widget.

The widget provides two buttons that let you either login with a Raven Login or a Friends Login. If you click on one of those buttons you will be redirected to a Raven/Friends secured page to associate your iGoogle widget with CamTools.

If you tick the Remember me checkbox, the system will create a cookie that will last and remember you for 1 month. This allows access to your CamTools sites without the need to login again. If you are on a public computer, you shouldn't tick the checkbox for security reasons.

Settings page section

This page gives you the chance to remove the association cookie. Removing the cookie means that in order to reuse the iGoogle Gadget, you will have to re-associate your Friends/Raven login with iGoogle. Please use this function on public computers.

MAC Dashboard widget

MAC widget installation guide. 1.Click on the Mac Dashboard link on the MyCamTools widget homepage.

2.Now you should see this page pop-up. Click on the link provided.

3.Click the download link and download the widget, unzip the widget and execute the “MyCamTools.wdgt”-file.

4.Now you should be prompted to confirm whether you really want to install the widget. Press Install.

5.Now you need to decide if you want to keep the MyCamTools widget. Press Keep.

6.Now you will have to associate your widget with CamTools. Click the Raven or Friends login button. This will redirect you to the MyCamTools homepage. Navigate to the MAC dashboard page and copy the provided token(the red section on the screen shot).

7.Paste the token into the “Save token” text field and click the save token button.

7a.When you enter a wrong token. You should see this screen then. Click the “Remove the Token ” link.

7b.This will bring you back to the “Add token”-section. Click on the Raven or Friends button and try again.

Settings page

This section lets you remove your currently associated token. Click the “Remove the token” link to do so.

RSS

RSS installation guide 1.Go to the RSS section on the MyCamTools homepage.

2. Now go to your favourite RSS reader and subscribe to the given URL.

Google Desktop

Google Desktop installation guide 1.Click on the Google Desktop section on the MyCamTools homepage.

2.Now go to the link and download your personalised Google Desktop Gadget.

3.Install the MyCamTools.gg gadget.

4.You are now ready to start using the Google Desktop widget.

Google Desktop usage guide What you will see is a news feed that displays recent changes on your CamTools sites.

If you click on an item, the widget will display more information about that item and links to the CamTools resource/announcement.

Windows Vista Sidebar widget

windows Vista Sidebar widget installation guide. 1.Click on the Windows Vista Sidebar section on the MyCamTools Widgets website.

2.Download the MyCamTools.Gadget file.

3.Copy the provided token (for later use).

4.Install the Vista widget gadget.

The first thing you will see is a notice that you aren't known by CamTools.

Click on the wrench in top right corner of the vista widget. This will open the option menu. Remember that you copied the token from the site (if you didn't do that, go back to the vista widget section of the MyCamTools widgets website). Paste the token in the textfield and click the “Save token” button, and then press OK. Now you should be seeing the following.

You can click on the items to see a detailed view of the selected item. If you click on the items you will be redirected to the corresponding CamTools site.
