She teaches Film and Media Studies at the Protestant University of Applied Sciences, Bochum. She earned her PhD at the University of Paris X with a thesis on the films of Clint Eastwood and the American frontier. She has published widely in France and Germany, including four edited volumes in the CinémAction series - Le corps filmé (2006), L’écran des frontières (2010), De la pauvreté (2013), and Et Les Jeunes (2016). Her Dictionnaire Clint Eastwood was published in 2016. She is currently pursuing research on the cinema of Kobayashi Masaki and on Japanese cinema and culture. Contributors Danièle André (University of La Rochelle, France) Danièle André is Associate Professor in North American civilisation and popular culture at the University of La Rochelle. Her research focus on the ways in which popular culture, and more specifically science fiction, cinema, TV series and graphic novels, deal with human beings in their social environment. She is the co-founder and treasurer of Stella Incognita, the French association for the promotion and development of research on science fiction. Her publications include Contemporary Popular Culture on the Move in the United States: Miscellanies, co-edited with Elodie Chazalon (2017) and Le jeu de rôle sur table, un laboratoire de l’imaginaire, co-edited with Alban Quadrat (2019). Hannah Bayley (Keele University, UK) Hannah Bayley is completing a PhD in Music and Film Studies at Keele University, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Her research interests include screen music and sound, Japanese horror cinema and Japanese culture more widely, adaptation and appropriation theory, and film re-makes. In October 2014 she undertook a five-month Fellowship, funded by AHRC, at the International Research Centre for Japanese Studies in Kyoto. Justyna Hanna Budzik (University of Silesia, Poland) Justyna Hanna Budzik is an Assistant Professor in Film and Media Studies at the University of Silesia in Katowice. Her PhD thesis, The Sensorium of Cinema: Towards an Anthrolology of the Cinematic Sensation, was awarded the 2013 Inka Brodzka-Wald Prize for best dissertation of the year in Modern Humanities in Poland. She was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Washington in 2017-18. Her publications include Dotyk światła. O zmysłowym doznawaniu kina (The Touch of Light: Sensual Experience of Cinema) (2012), Filmowe cuda i sztuczki magiczne. Szkice z archeologii kina (Film Miracles and Magic Tricks: Sketches from the Archaeology of Cinema) (2015), and Edukacja przez słowo – obraz – dźwięk (Education Through Word – Image – Sound (co-ed) (2015). Frances A. Kamm (University of Kent, UK) Frances A. Kamm is an Early Career Researcher and Associate Lecturer at the University of Kent, where she completed her PhD in Film Studies with a thesis entitled The Technological Uncanny and the Representation of the Body in Early and Digital Cinema. Her research interests include technology, the Gothic and visual effects, and the co-organiser of the Gothic Feminism research group at Kent. A co-editor of the journal Film Studies (Manchester University Press), she is also co-editing a forthcoming publication on the Gothic heroine. Murray Leeder (University of Manitoba, Canada) Murray Leeder is a Research Affiliate in the Institute of Humanities at the University of Manitoba. The holder of a PhD in Cultural Mediations from Carleton University, he taught Film at Carleton 2009-13, and at the University of Calgary 2014-18. his publications focus on horror, the supernatural, and the ghostly in cinema. He is the author of Halloween (2013) and The Modern Supernatural and the Beginnings of Cinema (2017), and the editor of Cinematic Ghosts (2015) and Refocus: The Films of William Castle (2018). Fabrice Lyczba (Université Paris-Dauphine, France) Fabrice Lyczba is a Senior Lecturer in Cultural Studies at the Université Dauphine. His research focusses on cultural identity and diversity, the circulation of culture and media, and globalisation. He is currently co-Lead Investigator on ‘The London Transformation’ project, a study of the roles played by French national identity in the construction of belonging among French students in London (jointly with the University of Westminster, London, UK). He is a research consultant for Asylos (Afghanistan and Global team), an EU-wide network producing free on-demand country information reports for asylum seekers at risk of forced repatriation. He is the Assistant Editor of Film Journal. Robbie McAllister (Leeds Trinity University, UK) Robbie McAllister is a Lecturer in Film at Leeds Trinity University. His PhD focused on a growing wave of ‘steampunk’ films that offer commentaries on modern technologies through forms of historical nostalgia where clockwork gadgets and steam-engines are retro-fitted into fantastical spectacles. These issues are re-worked in his book Steampunk Film: A Critical Introduction (2019) and are to be extended through a research project on ‘neo-Victorientalism’. Linda Sheppard (University of East Anglia, UK) Linda Sheppard teaches Film Studies as an Associate Tutor in the School of Art, Media, and American Studies at the University of East Anglia. Her research involves 1960s and 1970s horror cinema and how it informs discourses and debates surrounding modernist theory and the role of traditional religion in contemporary culture. She was previously a Part-Time Professor of Film and Media at Palomar College, an Assistant Film Curator at The Brooklyn Museum, a Development Assistant at Women Make Movies, and an Archival Assistant at The Andy Warhol Foundation.
