  • Introduction 1
Notes Introduction 1. For a more in- depth discussion of patriarchy and nationalism, see Kim’s analysis of the argument of Gates (2005, 16) and Garcia (1997). 2. Omi and Winant (1986) trace the historical development of privilege tied to white- ness but also foreground discussions of race to contest claims that only those in power— that is, those considered white— can be racist. Omi and Winant argue that whenever the construct of race is used to establish in and out groups and hierarchies of power, irrespective of who perpetrates it, racism has occurred. In “Latino Racial Formation,” De Genova and Ramos-Zayas (2003b) further develop the ideas of history and context in terms of US Latinos in their argument that US imperialism and discrimination, more than any other factors, have influenced Latino racializa- tion and thus contributed to the creation of a third pseudoracial group along the black/white continuum that has historically marked US race relations. The research of Omi and Winant and De Genova and Ramos- Zayas coincides with the study of gender, particularly masculinity, in its emphasis on the shifting nature of constructs such as race and gender as well as its recognition of the different experiences of gendered history predicated upon male and female bodies of people of color. 3. In terms of the experience of sexuality through the body, Rodríguez’s memoir (1981) underscores the fact that perceptions of one’s body by the self and others depend heavily on the physical context in which an individual body is found as well as on one’s own perceptions of pride and shame based on notions of race and desire.

I lusted after the various sports games advertised in the magazines until my mom finally relented and bought Strat-O-Matic Football for me in 1972. I got SOM’s baseball game a year later and I was hooked. I would get the new card set each year and attempt to play the in-progress season by moving the traded players around and turning ‘nameless player cards” into that year’s key rookies. I switched to APBA in the late ‘70’s because they started releasing some complete old season sets and the idea of playing with those really caught my fancy. Between then and the mid-nineties, I collected a lot of card sets.

This Tournament Goes to Eleven III: Smell the Glove Hosted by the University ofIowa, October 12-13, 2001 Sic Transit Gloria Mundi (by Mike Wi try [Iowa)) 1. The expedition consisted of 150 people, including women and children. The fleet took on supplies in Puerto Rico, then arrived at Hatoraske on July 22. They attempted to rebuild a fort left behind by a previous expedition, but local tribes had been incited by the fleet's burning of a village, and Governor John White's attempts to remove the threat simply added to the problem. After the birth of his granddaughter on the 18th of August, White departed the colony to purchase supplies in England. When he returned in 1590, FTP, what colony had vanished, leaving behind only the word "Croatoan"? Roanoke 2. Evidence of it dates from c. 5000 BC, and remains from Peru and Bolivia indicate that the Incas knew of it throughout their history. It had disappeared in the Western world, except to relieve pressure on the brain caused by disease, until Bart Huges, a medical-school dropout, realized that i~ was the road to higher consciousness, and performed it on himself using a hypodermic needle, a scalpel, and an electric drill. FIP, name this operation, often used to release evil spirits, consisting of drilling a hole through the patient's skull. Trepanation 3. The word's original meaning, describing a low, wind-driven cloud, has nearly disappeared in the last thirty years. Another definition, used by Wayne and Garth, is of a chick who looks like a babe from far away, but when you get closer, you realize she isn't.

  • 2018 Banquet Program
Hall of Fame Watch 2018 Welcome to the 25th annual Mid Mon Valley All Sports Hall of Fame Banquet. This is our silver anniversary banquet and we have a class of par excellence. Our student honorees, outstanding senior scholar-athletes chosen by their respective Mon Valley high schools, are to be commended on a job well done! It is our privilege to honor you in tonight’s ceremony alongside the athletes who came before you. Most importantly, you represent the future for our communities, commonwealth and nation. We recognize the time, energy and dedication that you have demonstrated while participating in high school athletics and maintaining your academic excellence. In the past decade, upon the recommendation of one of the original contributors to the Mon Valley Sportswriters Hall of Fame, Ron Paglia recommended recognizing WPIAL champions for our area high schools. Since it was so rare to have a Mon Valley High WPIAL winner, it appeared justified. Recently, we have entered a golden age of WPIAL champions. This year we have the privilege to recognize two teams and 11 individual champions. Belle Vernon Area High School Leopards won their fourth overall Class 4A softball (21-3) WPIAL championship (2007, 2015 and 2017). BVA has won three out of the last four years of WPIAL softball championships. Captain Bailey Parshall will accept the award for the team gold. Brownsville High School Falcons won their first ever Class 3A baseball (15-2) WPIAL championship. Our Achievement award winners for Mon Valley High School WPIAL 2017-2018 individual Gold include in wrestling Bentworth/Charleroi’s John Vargo (34-8) Class AA182 lbs.
