Led by Founding Artistic Director Robert Kelley and Executive Director Phil Santora, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley presents a wide range of productions and programming throughout the region. Tim Bond will become TheatreWorks’ second-ever Artistic Director following Robert Kelley’s retirement in June 2020. Founded in 1970, we continue to celebrate the human spirit and the diversity of our community, presenting contemporary plays and musicals, revitalizing great works of the past, championing arts education, and nurturing new works for the American theatre. TheatreWorks has produced 70 world premieres and over 160 US and regional premieres. In June 2019, TheatreWorks received the highest honor for a theatre not on Broadway— the American Theatre Wing’s 2019 Regional Theatre Tony Award®. TheatreWorks’ 2018/19 season included the world premiere of Hershey Felder: A Paris Love Story, the West Coast premiere of Marie and Rosetta, and regional premieres of Hold These Truths, Native Gardens, Tuck Everlasting, and Archduke. Our 2017 world premiere, The Prince of Egypt, is slated to open on London’s West End in February 2020. With an annual operating budget of $11 million, TheatreWorks produces eight mainstage productions at the Lucie Stern Theatre in Palo Alto and the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. High school students across the country have been forbidden to start Gay and Straight Alliance clubs. The school picture event mentioned in this play really did happen to a child in Florida. Families across the country are being shunned, harassed and threatened by neighbors, and they suffer for allowing their transgender children to freely express their identities. -

The show runs through January 13, 2013. It is the first offering in this year's "Broadway at the November" series. Winner of a record breaking twelve Tony Awards, this Mel Brooks comedy tells the story of a washed up Broadway producer, Max Bialystock, and a neurotic accountant, Leo Bloom, and their scheme to make millions on a Broadway flop. Music and lyrics by Mel Brooks feature sixteen songs. With a colorful cast of 24, a live orchestra, extravagant set, and dazzling costumes, The Producers will be one of Virginia Rep’s largest productions this season. Director Patti D’Beck has 18 Broadway credits as Associate Choreographer, Dance Captain, and Actor, including the original productions of Applause with Lauren Bacall, A Chorus Line, Seesaw, Pippin with Ben Vereen, and Evita with Patti Lupone and Mandy Patinkin. She currently teaches movement and musical theater at Virginia Commonwealth University. The show runs through January 10, 2015. With a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Gypsy is a crowning achievement in American musical theatre. Loosely based on the 1957 memoirs of Gypsy Lee Rose, Gypsy tells the story of Mama Rose, the ultimate stage mother, and her hopes and dreams for her daughters, June and Louise. As the lights of Vaudeville dim, Louise steps into the spotlight as Gypsy Rose Lee and rises to become one of the most famed burlesque performers of all time. The show opened on Broadway in 1959 and has had 5 revivals. The iconic role of Rose has been played by Broadway legends such as Ethel Merman, Angela Lansbury, Tyne Daly, Bernadette Peters, Patti LuPone, and Imelda Staunton. The last professional Richmond production of Gypsy was produced by TheatreVirginia in 1997. Bledsoe 2 Bledsoe - DMA Harp Performance University of Washington Abstract The Harp in Jazz and American Pop Music Megan A. Bledsoe Chair of the Supervisory Committee: Assistant Professor of Flute Donna Shin, Chair Instrumental Performance, School of Music The harp has endured a tenuous relationship with the genres of jazz and American popular music throughout history. While a few harpists have enjoyed successful and significant careers in these fields, the harp is largely absent from mainstream jazz and American pop. The purpose of this dissertation is to ascertain a definitive cause for such exclusion and use this information to identify a feasible path toward further integration of the harp in jazz and American pop music. This paper examines the state of the harp in jazz and American pop from various angles, including historical perspective, analytical assessment, and a study which compares harpists’ improvisational abilities to those of their mainstream jazz instrumentalist counterparts. These evaluations yield an encompassing view of the harp’s specific advantages and detriments in the areas of jazz and American pop. The result of this research points to a need for specialization among harpists, particularly in defining new styles. It is evident that harpists’ careers generally necessitate a working knowledge of various styles of music. -
