Past Economic and Financial Environment and Future Prospects During the Reporting Period, the impact of the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak on global economic growth appeared. As the resumption of work and production progressed, the economic indicators of some economies gradually improved. The economic growth of major economies declined in the first quarter, and the economic growth of the United States, the Eurozone, Japan, and the United Kingdom were all negative. As many countries announced the gradual relaxation of epidemic prevention and control measures in phases and regions and promoted the resumption of work and production, the economy showed signs of improvement. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) once again decreased its forecast 2020 global economy growth rate to -4.9% in June. The novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak will continue to affect the global economy, and a deep global economic recession is inevitable. During the Reporting Period, China’s economy fell first and then rose, with the epidemic prevention and control situation continued to improve, the main indicators showed recovery growth, the economic operation recovered steadily, and the overall social development was stable. In the first half of 2020, the GDP was RMB45,661,400 million, representing a year-on-year decrease of 1.6%. Among them, the first quarter fell by 6.8% year-on-year, and the second quarter increased by 3.2%.

  • 2019 International Religious Freedom Report
CHINA (INCLUDES TIBET, XINJIANG, HONG KONG, AND MACAU) 2019 INTERNATIONAL RELIGIOUS FREEDOM REPORT Executive Summary Reports on Hong Kong, Macau, Tibet, and Xinjiang are appended at the end of this report. The constitution, which cites the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party and the guidance of Marxism-Leninism and Mao Zedong Thought, states that citizens have freedom of religious belief but limits protections for religious practice to “normal religious activities” and does not define “normal.” Despite Chairman Xi Jinping’s decree that all members of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) must be “unyielding Marxist atheists,” the government continued to exercise control over religion and restrict the activities and personal freedom of religious adherents that it perceived as threatening state or CCP interests, according to religious groups, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and international media reports. The government recognizes five official religions – Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, Protestantism, and Catholicism. Only religious groups belonging to the five state- sanctioned “patriotic religious associations” representing these religions are permitted to register with the government and officially permitted to hold worship services. There continued to be reports of deaths in custody and that the government tortured, physically abused, arrested, detained, sentenced to prison, subjected to forced indoctrination in CCP ideology, or harassed adherents of both registered and unregistered religious groups for activities related to their religious beliefs and practices. There were several reports of individuals committing suicide in detention, or, according to sources, as a result of being threatened and surveilled. In December Pastor Wang Yi was tried in secret and sentenced to nine years in prison by a court in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, in connection to his peaceful advocacy for religious freedom.

The aim of this study was to explore the functional role and underlying mechanisms of PNS on CRC radiosensitivity. Cell viability was assessed by a Cell Counting kit-8 assay. Cell survival and apoptosis were determined using colony formation assay and flow cytometry, respectively. Quantitative real-time PCR was used to quantify the levels of SNHG6 and miR-137. The targeted correlation between SNHG6 and miR-137 was validated by dual-luciferase reporter and RNA immunoprecipitation assays. Our data supported that PNS weakened the viability of CRC cells. Moreover, PNS promoted the radiosensitivity of CRC cells. Mechanistically, PNS enhanced CRC cell radiosensitivity Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 Unported Licence. by upregulating SNHG6. SNHG6 directly targeted miR-137 and inhibited miR-137 expression. MiR-137 Received 20th September 2019 was involved in the regulatory effect of SNHG6 on CRC cell radiosensitivity. Furthermore, PNS increased Accepted 11th November 2019 miR-137 expression through SNHG6 in CRC cells. Our study suggested that PNS promoted DOI: 10.1039/c9ra07622k radiosensitivity in CRC cells at least partly through regulating the SNHG6/miR-137 axis, providing a novel rsc.li/rsc-advances understanding of the anti-cancer mechanism of PNS in CRC.

Elegies for Empire The Poetics of Memory in the Late Work of Du Fu (712-770) Gregory M. Patterson Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY 2013 ! 2013 Gregory M. Patterson All rights reserved ABSTRACT Elegies for Empire: The Poetics of Memory in the Late Work of Du Fu (712-770) Gregory M. Patterson This dissertation explores highly influential constructions of the past at a key turning point in Chinese history by mapping out what I term a poetics of memory in the more than four hundred poems written by Du Fu !" (712-770) during his two-year stay in the remote town of Kuizhou (modern Fengjie County #$%). A survivor of the catastrophic An Lushan rebellion (756-763), which transformed Tang Dynasty (618-906) politics and culture, Du Fu was among the first to write in the twilight of the Chinese medieval period. His most prescient anticipation of mid-Tang concerns was his restless preoccupation with memory and its mediations, which drove his prolific output in Kuizhou. For Du Fu, memory held the promise of salvaging and creatively reimagining personal, social, and cultural identities under conditions of displacement and sweeping social change. The poetics of his late work is characterized by an acute attentiveness to the material supports—monuments, rituals, images, and texts—that enabled and structured connections to the past. The organization of the study attempts to capture the range of Du Fu’s engagement with memory’s frameworks and media. It begins by examining commemorative poems that read Kuizhou’s historical memory in local landmarks, decoding and rhetorically emulating great deeds of classical exemplars.
