Introduction to the Index of the Theodore Roosevelt Association Journal, 1975-2000

This cumulative Index to the Theodore (f/)eltAssociation and many local public libraries are subscribers. The Journal is Journa~ covering the first 25 years of this periodical, 1975-2000, received free of charge by every member of the Theodore is published thanks to the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Roosevelt Association. Todaythe Journal has a world-wide cir• National Historic Site (WIlcox Mansion) in Buffalo, . culation of 2,500. The Index was compiled by Shirley P. Hudders, Margaret Paul, In the early 19908,for over 18 months, a committee of hard• and MollyQuackenbush. Shirley Hudders and Margaret Paul are working volunteers at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural dedicated volunteer workers at the Buffalo historic site, and National Historic Site, under the leadership of Barbara B. Molly Quackenbush is the site superintendent of the Wilcox Brandt, then supervisor of the Buffalo site, and Shirley P. house, where Theodore Roosevelt took the oath of office as the Hudders and Margaret Paul, who co-chaired the committee, 26th President of the on September 14,1901. It is compiled a cumulative Index of the Journal for the years 1975• particularly fitting that this Index is published during the cen• 1992. This Index was published in Volume XIX, no. 3 (1993) of tennial year of Theodore Roosevelt's inauguration. the TRA Journal, taking up an entire issue. Actually, there The Theodore Roos(f/)elt Association Journal began publi• were - and are now - two indexes. The Buffalo group decided cation in 1975. 'I\vo issues were published in 1975, two in 1976, that it would be a good idea to compile a separate picture index and three in 1977, and starting in 1978 there have been four in addition to the index alphabetical listing of articles, sub• issues or numbers in each volume. Volumes often are published jects, authors, etc. Shirley Hudders and Margaret Paul have over more than one calendar year. The historian William H. now worked on the annual indexes of this publication since Harbaugh once wrote that the TRA Journal does "a superb job 1992, and decided that a cumulative Index was again in order, of melding scholarship and human interest materials." The marking the 25th Anniversary of the Journal. The officers of Journal is both an historical periodical, with scholarly articles, the Theodore Roosevelt Association express deep gratitude to documents, and book reviews, and the Theodore Roosevelt the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site, and Association's newsletter. This mix of scholarship and news particularly Shirley Hudders, Margaret Paul, and Molly seems to have a wide appeal. Bound copies of the Journal are Quackenbush, for continuing work in the indexes of the found on the shelves of many college and university libraries, Journal.
