Wolves Early Birds.............24 Whilst we could retreat to some relative warmth in one of the Promotion News................26 tents or grab a hot chocolate there was little relieve for the poor Bits & Pieces.......................27 drivers, especially those in the open cockpits, so fair play lads you did Collector’s Corner..............35 well. In the end it got too much for myself and Andy and we actually Ebay Watch........................41 left earlier than usual to get home to the warmth, which was also a good thing given the field we were in had the look of somewhere that was about to present a lot of people problems getting out, due to the weather and of course mud. Moving on and the weather is also still curtailing my car building, as it is way to cold to attempt any form of spray painting in the garage, so my collection of George Turner kits is increasing, whilst The NSCC is a member of the the Airfix collection of kits has decreased (hand painting these in the International Federation of house!), but at least Ciaran is happy as his stash of planes are being Slot Car Clubs built and the collection growing on his shelves.

  • John Surtees News Roundup and Calendar
John Surtees News Roundup and Calendar 2014 is going to be a busy year for racer John Surtees; it’s the 50th anniversary of his Formula One World Championship with Ferrari, and it’s his 80th Birthday. But even those two milestones don’t really do justice to his achievements. There is a lot more. Between 1956 and 1960, Surtees won seven World Championships and six Isle of Man TTs on 350cc and 500cc MV Agusta motorcycles. Stepping from bikes and into Formula One cars, he drove for Lotus, BRM, Cooper and Honda and then, from 1963, for Ferrari. After winning the Nürburgring and Monza 1000km races in Enzo’s sports cars, he took the Formula One World Championship in 1964 in a Ferrari 158. Winning world championships with both bikes and cars is a feat unmatched by any other racer. Moving on again, he won the 1966 Can‐Am Championship in the Lola T70 MkII – a car he helped develop. Between 1969 and 1978 he ran his own team – Team Surtees – designing and campaigning cars for Formula 5000, Formula Two and Formula One. Over the summer, both John and his machines will be at some of the most prestigious classic racing events and venues across the country, so you’ll need to know which ones are the best to attend in order to catch meet the man, photograph the vehicles, and hear his stories. April 26‐27th: 34th Carole Nash International Classic Motorcycle Show, Staffordshire County Showground John will be the star attraction at what is one of the world’s biggest classic motorcycle events.

INTRODUCTION Thank you for purchasing our catalogue, you now own the worlds largest currently available Ho - 1/32nd - 1/24th scale slot car body list, together with full up-to-date wheelbase data list. THE BIRTH OF BETTA & CLASSIC In the early years, back in 1956, when model car racing was in its infant stages the norm was to race not slot cars, but rail cars, which ran on rails rather than in a slot. These cars were made by the purist scale model maker, whose interest was to scale looks rather than to achieve out and out speed. In those early years bodies were made out of balsa wood by individuals spending many hours making miniature replica's of the cars they most loved. Some were obviously made to a very high standard, whilst others remained to be very average to say the least, depending on the individual’s abilities. So came about the first real sighting of a pure 1/32nd scale body shell produced in England and made by a certain, now world famous individual namely "Charlie Fitzpatrick", the founder of shells. He was able to make models of immense quality and, using his skills in fiberglass molding, was able to produce for the first time ever scale replicas of many, many racing cars for the rail racer and, as slot racing took over, the slot racer. As competition became more and more serious the need to make cars go that little bit quicker became more and more apparent. Bodies began to appear on the market made from a thin plastic material, at first being manufactured by the Americans.

Welcome back to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez! Or, if you are joining us for the first time, allow me to wish you a very warm welcome to Mexico City - as those who were with us last year will tell you - we do things a little differently here! On behalf of CIE, I’d like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all of you who reported so enthusiastically on last year’s race - your support and feedback was beyond our wildest expectations. It was extremely moving to see so many of you embrace our Mexican F1esta spirit and enjoy our event. Even our race Godfather, Nigel Mansell agreed that we had done the race justice.
